tatum van buren was born into a life of luxury and privilege in the upper east side, new york. he was the youngest of SIX children, having five older sisters to compete with for parental attention that, frankly, none of them won in the end

tate, as the only van buren son under a bullshit patriarchal family head, was kinda lowkey expected to take over the family business

he never loved the idea -- he was a creative soul and would much rather be doodling than doing anything productive or academic related

his love of art would be made to flourish in secret. his sisters were allowed to pursue their interests but he was forced into a business mindset practically from birth. 

it put a resentment in him towards his family which would be left to fester into this dangerous apathy that very much gave him the label of the dirtbag

alternate titles he’d take on over the years: the black sheep, the family disappointment, the skater boy, the troublemaker

basically as soon as he knew how, tate was acting out but in very subtle ways. like, he stated to smoke (first cigarettes, then he developed a love of weed) or stay out all night at a local skatepark nowhere near the upper crust neighborhood 

he’d hideout at family functions or, if he couldn’t hide, he’d get absolutely wasted on expensive wine

he started dating early high school to try and get away from his family and the pressure they put on him. but after a pretty big misstep that almost put him off the idea of love altogether, he found his now-current boyfriend

the brief summary of their past is that they dated first as an act of rebellion -- tate was expected to have some prissy little ues girlfriend and so bringing a boy around was a shocker. however, tate fell fast and hard in love so what started as a joke became real very very quickly. his boyfriend has ties to italy so they’d run away to a villa in northern italy, just to be alone together. it was very impassioned.

they’d go through a hard spell in the middle where tate’s fear of love broke them up and his ex moved on fast enough to make tate very insecure about his importance as a lover. there’s a whole complicated timeframe where they’re apart but this is already getting long. so!

basically, his ex’s relationship fell through and tate took it as a sign. he needed to make things right again and, frankly, he believed them to be soulmates. there’s no one else that made him feel as much as this boy and so he made his amends. 

they got back together on valentine’s day and its been like they never were apart. if you ask tate, his heart’s belonged to his boyfriend since they FIRST started dating -- the breakup in the middle forgotten. 

sometime last month they took off on another of their italian vacations, happy to escape from their family and the judgement that was going along with them getting back together so suddenly. 

they just... never went home. they’re in kind of a honeymoon stage but have picked out a crummy apartment type place to live together (both being cut off by their families once they realized they weren’t coming back)

missing his siblings but is also known for being a bit reckless and spontaneous so this departure isn’t necessarily surprising

mostly loves sketching, watercolor and digital art but has a passion for really any medium

he’s also really fcking good at it. his current boyfriend always was super supportive of it and has agreed to do most of the work keeping a roof above their heads to allow tate to enroll in art school.

tate was already working on an art degree in secret in ny so he’s transferring credits and will be enrolled by now. 

very chill & laidback. he used to be really grumpy and moody but italy brings out the best in him. plus he’s in love so he’s kind of a dumb sappy kid

uncouth because of the aforementioned potty mouth but he’s also just a little... rough and tumble, always covered in paints and dirt / scrapes from skateboarding. also never adopted that pristine rich person’s livelihood.

maia is 25 and she’s positive she’s done nothing with her life. she graduated high school, saved money and went to university. she graduated university with a masters in environmental science in hopes to save the world. now she’s a year out of university and has no idea what to do. well, she does but money doesn’t come so easy. 

maia made a split second decision to pack up and move to florence, she applied for a visa and she got in. that was that, she bid canada goodbye and now she’s been in florence for 3 years working here and there to make ends meet. not wanting to dip into her savings, some weeks are better than others, some weeks she’s really hungry. she does what she can, just trying to prove to herself that she can do this. 

her rumour is false, but she did flee from her fiance. after seeing exactly how her life would play out, it scared her to no end. she explained her situation and they didn’t understand. so maia left anyway, stubborn as hell and not willing to sacrifice life to satisfy someone else. there was however, no child, only talk of adoption.

BIOGRAPHY…ISH

luca is 20 years old and he’s lived his entire life in italy. he was born in a small village called castelmola and it wasn’t until he turned 18 that he moved out of his home to go to the big city, to pursue his big dreams. his parents think he’s making a big mistake, that while his pastries are good, they’re just not great. in fact his pastry style is a french-italian and that combination while delicious, hasn’t been tampered with much and in his little town, he wouldn’t have made it anywhere. but florence is different, florence is where he’s going to be able to buy his own patisserie.

luca’s fluent in italian & english, the boy was always smart but his grades never quite reflected so. didn’t bother him, he knew more about the layers of a croissant better than anyone. he’s optimistic and kind, he’ll fill anyone he talks to with happiness. it does get to his head, any compliment (aside from his work) to him goes straight to his head. he’s definitely cocky, very confident in himself and sometimes people can’t see eye to eye with him for that very reason. 

his rumour is not true. while he did cheat his way through his younger years to get to where he is today, he didn’t spend money on getting into school. he’s quite proud of that fact, so whilst his parents help a bit with rent, luca’s proud to be almost entirely independent. he’s working on it, anyways.

-From a very early age his parents had been hard on Julian, asking him to act a certain way, and get great scores in school, always needed to be the perfect child which Julian could never live up to in the beginning.

-His twin on the other hand was the perfect child in their eyes, always acted how they wished, was always praised in school for his academics, and Julian was constantly compared to his twin brother and his parents always questioned why he couldn’t be the same way.

-This made Julian intensely jealous and caused him to act out more, and this further strained the relationship he had with his parents, and even though he was jealous of his brother he truly cared and adored him but it never showed.

-When he was around the age of nine, he and his brother went out to play outside, his twin teasing him that he could not throw the ball hard or far enough, and out frustration he threw with all his might.

-The ball went far enough out of view that it forced the other to tease him more, and go look for it as Julian refused. A few moments passed and Julian started calling for his brother but there was no response, and as he went in that same direction, he found the ball, but no sign of his twin.

-He spent roughly an hour frantically calling and screaming for help, trying to use his broken English to get others to assist him but it was no avail, and he had to go tell his parents that their pride and joy had possibly been kidnapped.

-Search parties were sent out and for months they held out hope, but nothing happened, there wasn’t a trail to follow, Julian’s brother just vanished, and it broke his parent’s heart. It broke his own.

-Julian is a spoiled brat, but it’s mostly a front because those who know him know that he’s as soft as they come, a lover of art, and all things beautiful. His mother’s a famous fashion designer, and his father’s an actor. Both make a lot of money both they barely give Julian the time of day. His mother only had the twins to put a wedge into her decaying relationship, and the man agreed to stay for his children, but it only drew them further apart, and it made the woman resent Julian for looking just like his father, and  blames him for the other boy’s disappearance.

-His father is a famous actor, who fools around with both men and women since he doesn’t really care about his wife, and he can barely look at his son without wanting to hit him which he has done on many occasions because Julian had a tendency to find him cheating.

erin, also affectionately referred to as ryn by family and close friends, had a pretty normal childhood. she grew up in the states, she was a sweet little girl, able to wrap anyone around her pinky with her angelic features. not that she ever did that on purpose. she was usually way too busy with her own little world. 

she usually had her nose stuck in some book, most of the time fantasy stories. if not she’d be playing make believe with her friends or her stuffed animals. her love for stories started at a very young age.

she grew up pretty protected, being the youngest of three girls. she never really felt the need to rebel against it though, if anything it made her really close with her family.

when it was finally time for her to go off to college, she was already pretty sure of what she wanted to major in: art history. with a bit of literature on the side. she was especially interested in the renaissance and, well, anything italy related. the country just seemed like such a dreamy place.

so of course she took italian, which is where she met oliver. they just really seemed to click, things were easy when they were together. besides, his love for italy matched hers.

so it wasn’t very weird or surprising that they decided to move to italy after they had graduated. erin had never really planned to live outside of the states, sure she’d dreamed of visiting italy, but this had never really been something that seemed possible. it all seemed like a dream come true.

and for the first few months it really was. until the fighting started. erin had a harder time with adjusting to her new life than she had anticipated. she felt guilty about it though, and didn’t really open up to oliver about it. when her granddad died, and she couldn’t just be back with her family in the states in just a few hours, she really started to have some regrets about moving so quickly.

she’s stubborn though, and for a few days she was stuck in the middle: move back to the usa, or stay here and try to save what little was left of her relationship with oliver. either option meant giving up on something. but then she found out oliver was cheating on her. it was hardly the reason for her final decision to leave, more just the last push.

she packed her bags, left a note, and promised herself to never look back. this had just been a big mistake. or was it? she left a huge part of her belongings back in italy, in venice with another old college friend. she went to the states for her granddad’s funeral, only to find out that life back there also didn’t feel right anymore. so back to italy she went, where she lived with her friend in venice for a while.

now she’s decided to come back to florence. she’s not sure if she’s back here for oliver, or for herself. for now she’s staying in an airbnb, and she’s just trying to feel things out, see if maybe she does have a life here after all.

andré picoli-truffaut was born on june 24, 1996 in paris, france

so he is a cancer, meaning he is the softest most emotional baby ever.

identifies as pansexual, pretty out of the closet about it.

he is the grandson of françois truffaut. if you’ve never heard of him, he was this big and famous director from the nouvelle vague movement in france. so andré belongs to a renowned family of the film industry and european artistic circles in general. however, his grandfather died 10 years before andre was born so he never got to meet him.

his mom’s name is eva and he has an older sister named luna. his parents divorced when andré was still very young and pretty much abandoned him and his sister. so he was basically raised by his mother and his grandmother. these three women are the pillars of his life. hence why he only uses his maternal last name.

andré has lived his whole life in paris, up until almost three years ago when he moved here to study at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze. he is pretty much following into the steps of his grandfather and the rest of his family in becoming an #ARTIST.

obviously, he lives for the aesthetic.

he is such a sweet soft human being. can be a bit petty though. but in general, he is sunshine personified. but he can also be a sad boi. he goes through periods of heavy nostalgia every now and then.

if he were a character from greek mythology, he’d be icarus. i sort of based his personality on the myth. and made andré be obsessed with icarus and all of greek mythology while at it. he probably likes to fancast people as gods/goddesses.

also, lives in a small studio apartment with lots of sunlight. his only roommate is his pet snake named brian.

- born in boston, to first generation iranian immigrants, alex went strictly by alexandra for the first few years of her life. it quickly became apparent however that alex was far more fitting. she was an eccentric little girl, a bit of a tomboy. she’d always be running around, busy with something. she was also a bit of a loner, but not by choice. she just didn’t really get along with her classmates and was kind of left alone. this was mostly caused by her fascination, or rather obession with.. well anything that piqued her interest. whenever something caught her attention, be it outer space, dinosaurs, tarot cards, a particular movie or book, it’d be the only thing she could talk about for a while. besides that, she was pretty hyper, so kids rather steered clear of her.

- when she was 10 she was finally diagnosed with adhd. by then she’d learned how to compensate and repress. how to fit it, basically. it still didn’t quite hit the mark, but she’d been able to make some lasting friendships, to the relief of her parents. overall she was a happy little girl, though school was often torture. not just the kids, the sitting still, the fact her concentration just wasn’t as good as her teachers expected. she didn’t want to let her parents down however, they’d sacrificed so much to be where they were now. so she’d smile, and try to get good grades. she went to high school, participated in a bunch of extracurriculars, until of course it all came tumbling down on her head, though that didn’t happen until her second month away at college.

- stress is never good, stress when you have adhd is even worse. regulating her emotions had never been alex’s strong suit, and with all this new change of moving out and going to a whole other school, and just.. everything being different, alex had a bit of a mental breakdown. she got told she had a burn-out and had to drop out of college for the time being. she spend a few months at home, in the care of her parents. eventually though, she got restless and decided to spread her wings. she’d been working parttime, and with the money she saved from that, she set out to travel the world. she had a set plan for the first few months, just some parts of europe, then back home in time to go back to college.

- once she was on the road however, she had no desire to turn back to her old life. she’s been traveling ever since, working when she needs money, visiting ‘home’ every so often. right now, florence has stolen her heart. she works in a small coffeeshop near her apartment, where she's known for her wild hair and bright smile. many regulars will know that if you ask her, she’ll give you a tarot or palm reading for free - though she very much appreciates the extra tips.
