unlike their small, disoriented morning chats, the way the two of them are now reminds lake of how the two used to get along. she could feel the positive energy radiating off of avi like the sun’s rays. it made her want to reach out and touch the warmth, though the lighter’s flame would have to suffice for now. the lighter in the other pocket. chemically burnt marshmallow burning the roof of her mouth, but lake tilts her head back in a dramatic boast of gratitude. “MMM!” once straightening out, hands move to either side of avi’s face. “this is why you’re my favorite!”
avi watches as lake tries the sort of melted, sort of roasted marshmallow with curious eyes. somehow she’s completely forgotten that she was meant to keep an eye out for a probable revenge attack from the person she was fleeing from. ‘is it good? really?’ she questions, and she feels her cheeks warm up as lake puts her hands on the sides of her face. she might not have inherited her mom’s ginger hair, she definitely has her pale skin and right now she just hopes her face hasn’t gone too red. god, it’s like she’s a freshman all over again. ‘okay-’ she offers the lighter to lake and grabs a marshmallow from the bag. ‘you hold the lighter, i want one too.’
