"How long, Ian?" he asked with more emphasis as he fished the next fork out of the dishwater. "I don't know yet." Mickey let out an incredulous pff as he pulled the plug from the sink and the water gurgled down the drain. Is he kidding? He knows exactly how long. He always knows. Every time. "How long, Ian?" He would ask one last time before he freaked out. He only had this chance. And he knew it. "Twelve weeks. Maybe longer." Mickey nodded and watched the crumbs being pulled down the drain by the whirlpool. He felt like one of those crumbs. A single crumb being pulled down the drain by a whirlpool of dirty water. It was just like last time. And Ian knew it. "When?" he finally asked as he began to dry the plates. He couldn't look at him. Not yet. "Tomorrow," and it was no more than a whisper. // Or Ian joins the army and Mickey stays behind until two soldiers knock on his door.
