The Burn Like a Motherfucker Bunk presents our @gallavichsummercamp 2026 ficâŠ.
@awaywithherhead and I had a blast writing this, along with an assist from a special guest writer, and this art from @glvch brought it to life! We hope you enjoy it in all its silliness!

I'm relapsing on Gallavich again. I'm so not normal about this ship like so so so not normal about it at all. Coz like enemies to lovers? Check. Childhood sweethearts? Check. Grumpy x Sunshine ship? Check. Absolutely whipped for each other no matter who and what obstacle they need to face and eventually gets back together if they do end up separating because of said obstacle? Fucking check. Is there a ship who checks these many boxes that are so right up my alley? Maybe, maybe I just haven't seen them yet but until then I will keep relapsing on Gallavich like a cocaine addict. I will keep coming back to this ship like Ian and Mickey keep coming back to each other.
Ian is the captain of the volleyball team, and Mickey came to watch the game for the first time, although to be honest, he was dragged by force...After that, he definitely wanted to get closer to Ianđ

thinking about S1 ian running to mickey bc he was sad about monica coming back, and mickey then comforting him in the only way he knew how. like at that point sex was the only thing mickey could safely give him. and he used it to comfort ian in his time of need.
It's almost been two years since I posted my first fan fiction in 2024 and it's genuinely so unbelievable to me that I've kept this up for two full years. I feel like my writing has massively improved since starting on ao3, to the point where I don't read any of my early work. My most popular fan fiction is iron bars and it's still one of the longest things I've ever written. I'm so grateful for all the support I got from that fic, it's basically my baby and it gave me so much more confidence in my writing. So, in honour of it being two years since I started writing, I thought I would post some scenes that I wrote for Iron Bars but never included and some starts to other fics that I never continued!
for iron bars:
Ian watches from the corner of the rec room as Mickey makes his phone call. Ian was assured that the person on the other end of the line wouldnât be Terry - he remains somewhat doubtful about whether Mickey was lying - but a distant cousin who âknows a guyâ. Mickey has a tendency to run back to Terry whenever something isnât going exactly right. Somewhere in his head he has this insane idea that Terry looked after him. That Terry taught him to be who he is, forced him to look after himself, and showed him how to be strong. Itâs all wrong, Ian knows, because the best traits Mickey has are the ones that have nothing to do with his dad. And he isnât strong because he has good aim or knows how to hide a body, heâs strong because of his heart and his softness and his protectiveness.Â
But Ian thinks that Mickeyâs calling Terry, not some distant cousin who âknows a guyâ. He wonders if Terry can actually help, because even if Mickey managed to convince him to take pity on him and his gay lover, how much could he really do while they were behind bars?Â
Once heâs finished, Mickey strides over to Ian, taking up space beside him and leaning against the wall. Slip watches the whole move with eyes like death; beady and glinting. Ian makes an effort not to look back, pulling his attention towards Mickey and the small argument that Scott and Santos are having in front of him.Â
âSo?â Ian asks, raising his eyebrows when Mickey doesnât instantly explain.Â
âAssholeâs overcharginâ me for it, but says he can get it done.â Mickey states cryptically, shrugging his shoulders as if itâs nothing.Â
âGet what done?â Ian hisses back. He stares worriedly at Mickeyâs side profile, eyes wide and scared. Ian never said anything about Slip dying. Fuck, Mickey never said anything about Slip dying. Ian didnât want Slipâs blood on his hands, even if Slip is an awful human being. Even if Ian had been ready to kill him himself a week ago.Â
Mickey looks back at him for a second, his expression scrunching in confusion. âDealing with Slip.â He says, like itâs simple. Like Ianâs the strange one for even questioning it.Â
âDealing with him how?â Ian grits out.Â
âBy- fuckinâ⊠I donât know! Dealing with him. I thought we had this conversation.â It would be comical, the way Mickey waves his hands in bewilderment, if Ian werenât concerned about his partner just ordering a hit on some gang-banger.Â
âWe had a conversation about getting him off our backs. Not about killing him!â Ian emphasises in a hushed voice. Heâs conscious of the other people in the vicinity, even if they care much more about their own business.Â
âHold on. Who the fuck said they were killing him?â Mickey asks, perplexed.Â
âYou did!â
âWhen?â
âJust- Fuck! Just now!â
âNo, I didnât!â
âYou said you were gonna have him âdealt withâ. âDealt withâ. I know what that means!â
âYeah! It means my cousin is gonna deal with the problem by getting him off our backs!â
âBy killing him!â
âNo! By planting fucking⊠heroin in his cell so he gets sent to solitary. Or makinâ him take the fall for something that gets him sent to max!â
âWell, why didnât you fucking say that!â
âBecause I thought you had more than three fucking brain cells!â
âIf you had more than three brain cells, maybe you woulda thought to say that.â
âThat I have more than three brain cells?â
âNo, jackass. That you arenât gonna kill Slip.â
âWhy would I kill Slip?â
âHe stabbed you!â
âDoesnât mean Iâm gonna kill him!â
âYou threatened to kill me yesterday because I joked about dying my hair again.â
âAnd I stand by it. You touch my hair again, you die.â
âJesus-â
âHey! Can you two stop squabbling like old housewives and settle this for us?â Santos calls to them from his heated discussion with Slip.Â
Ian huffs out a breath, sending Mickey a wide-eyed look of both annoyance and shocked concern. Mickey rolls his eyes - Ian thinks more at him than at Santos, which is rude - but sits himself at their table anyway. Ian joins him with a tiny push, a light shove, something that heâll call an accident if Mickey says anything. Itâs not an accident, by any means, because Mickeyâs an idiot and an asshole so thatâs what happens. In return, Mickey knocks Ianâs thigh with his knee. Not enough to hurt, just enough for Ian to know that Mickey is not giving Ian the last word.Â
Thereâs something undeniably comforting about the way they can fight. Fighting is something Ian knows, arguing is how him and his family have always shown that they loved each other. It makes sense that it extends to Mickey, too.Â
I went a different way with this in the end. I was struggling for a way to get rid of Slip's character after Mickey gets stabbed. I'm not sure why I changed my mind (this was written in November 2024, so a while ago now) but I think their squabbling is funny.
fic I began about Mickey being in prison for being an assassin, being recruited as a snitch and Ian being a psychiatrist who has to evaluate him throughout the mission (????)
Transcript:
DIG: Hello, Iâm Dr. Ian Gallagher. Iâm the psychologist doing your evaluation to-
MM: Youâre a shrink?
DIG: âŠyes. And Iâm doing your evaluation to clear you for the job. Do you have any other questions before we start?
MM: Clear me? As in make sure Iâm sane?
DIG: In a way, I suppose. Itâs to make sure you wonât go MIA or disobey instructions or do something to hurt yourself or others.Â
MM: (laughter) Do you know who I am?
DIG: Yes.
MM: And you want me not to hurt people? Do you know why Iâm here?
DIG: For the murder of twenty three individuals. Yes, I know. Youâll have to keep your murderous tendencies in check for this.Â
MM: I think you chose the wrong fucking person.
DIG: You canât contain yourself from killing people, even if it means a reduced sentence?
MM: âŠ
DIG: If I believe you will be impacting on this task in a negative way, I will have to take you off of it. Is that clear? Youâll be back in your cell before dinner and wonât have a chance to come out again for another decade. Does that sound better?
MM: I wonât hurt anyone.Â
DIG: Or yourself?
MM: (scoff)Â
DIG: âŠ
MM: Thatâs a serious question?
DIG: Yes. Obviously.Â
MM: Jesus. Wonât hurt myself either, doc. Iâm not a pre-teen girl who wants attention.Â
(let me just say this isn't a statement I agree with, but it is something Mickey would say)
DIG: No, just a psychotic murderer who wants attention.Â
MM: âŠ
DIG: âŠ
MM: Pretty sure you canât say that.Â
DIG: Why not?
MM: Itâs unprofessional.Â
DIG: Not sure if anyone cares about being professional when it comes to you. And I donât think you care either, you just hate that Iâm right.
MM: Youâre not right.
DIG: No? How so?
MM: Iâm not a psycho. And I didnât do it to get attention.Â
DIG: Hm. You didnât do it so that Daddy would finally say he loved you?
MM: âŠ
DIG: âŠ
MM: I know what youâre doing.Â
DIG: Whatâs that?
MM: Youâre tryna piss me off. Get me to have an emotional reaction. See how regulated I am. You think Iâm one word away from losing my shit. (laughter) Yeah, it wonât work.Â
DIG: âŠ
MM: You donât have to do that shit. You can just ask me normal questions.Â
DIG: Okay, since youâre so forthcoming. How would you describe your childhood?
MM: âŠcompetitive.Â
DIG: How so?
MM: My Ma was a famous scuba diver, and she wanted me and my sister to scuba dive like her. My dad was onboard, too. But my sister was always fucking better than me, so I was on the back foot and tryna catch up. But whenever I lost, my parents were always there to catch me. Theyâd tell me I was a good fucking sport.Â
DIG: (sigh) Youâve never done scuba diving.
MM: No?
DIG: Your mother died when you were a young child. Your sister is also not a scuba diver. Do you actually believe that story or are you lying for the fun of it?
MM: Oh, I believe it, doc. I know I was a fucking scuba diver.Â
DIG: Are a lot of scuba divers also serial killers?
MM: I wanted to be the first.Â
DIG: You know you werenât a scuba diver.Â
MM: âŠÂ
DIG: Honesty is the only way this is going to get us anywhere. You donât want to talk about your childhood, clearly. How about your siblings, what do you have to say about them?
MM: My brothers are stupid. I think they got dropped on their heads as kids. Me and my sister were the only ones who would be getting anywhere. Thatâs why Ma and Pa signed us up for scuba diving-
DIG: (sigh) I know you arenât delusional. I know you know you never did scuba diving.Â
MM: (laughter)
DIG: Itâs not funny. Iâll have to write delusions on your file if you keep this up.Â
MM: (laughter) Fine, I never did scuba diving.Â
DIG: Did you mean what you said about your siblings?
MM: Sure.
DIG: Were you close?
MM: Scuba diving drove us apart.Â
DIG: If you canât be serious, Iâll have to note you as insane. We canât trust someone who wonât communicate and seems to have no grasp on reality.Â
MM: Do you always threaten your patients to make them speak to you?
DIG: No. Iâm not threatening you.Â
MM: Youâre threatening to send me back to a 3-by-3 metre cell for another ten years, where Iâm isolated from the rest of humanity, if Iâm not honest with you. And then you expect me to play nice.Â
DIG: Iâm explaining the consequences of your actions. If you donât comply, we canât trust you.Â
MM: Iâm not a fucking idiot. I get the situation. I also get that they need someone so badly that theyâre willing to take a convicted serial killer out of his cage, send him off on his own with nothing but an earpiece and a mini camera. None of you shit-bags are gonna give up on this because Iâm making a fucking joke.Â
DIG: âŠÂ
MM: And I donât fucking like being constantly reminded that you fuckers could send me back to my fucking box whenever you feel like it.Â
Guard: Sit back!
DIG: (addressed to guard) Itâs fine. Heâs not doing anything. Stand back. (addressed to MM) Youâre right. Iâm sorry.Â
MM: âŠ
DIG: It does matter how we think youâre doing though. If we think youâre⊠unable to follow instruction, it will matter. And, you have the physical next week. That matters too.Â
MM: As if Iâd fail my physical.Â
DIG: Your routine and consistent exercise is impressive, sure, but given the conditions youâve been in...
I don't know what inspired this one, but I still think it's an interesting concept. Completely forgot I wrote it, just found it in my notes app.
A continuation of my lilac shirts and bart Simpson fic
Lewisâs sleeve gets finished, eventually. It takes a while, because heâs trying to fit in tattoo sessions around looking after his kids and his construction job. Mickeyâs happy with the finished result and Nina takes photos for him because apparently his hand is too shaky for the camera. Mickey thinks that itâs ironic, since his hands are definitely not shaky when heâs tattooing. Lewis declares that heâll be coming back in a few months for some stuff on his legs, and in the mean time Mickey picks up a few more regular customers. One woman keeps coming back, each time saying that itâll be her last tattoo, she swears.Â
Tonyâs been bringing in a cup and ball toy recently, because heâs an idiot. Both him and Stan compete over who can play it best. Mickeyâs had a turn, but it was so frustrated that Mickey almost strangled Tony with the string.Â
But Mickey realises that Joey doesnât seem to be scared of Mickey. Heâs far too close to his back when he compliments him, making Mickey startle and give him a quizzical look. Thereâs no concern in Joeyâs face, though, instead he laughs good-naturedly. Itâs deeply strange. Mickey doesnât like it.Â
Once heâs finished with the guy who wanted a basic rose, he pulls up the portable card reader that he has beside his station. The guy pays and then promptly leaves. It took Mickey a long while to figure out that card reader, and he still sometimes gets it wrong. New fangled technology has never been his strong suit. His phone has a long crack down the face of it from when he threw it at a wall because it wasnât working. Ian tells him heâs lucky it still functions.Â
âYour knuckles are looking a little rough, Mickey.â Tony comments once heâs gotten bored with his game and is choosing to bother Mickey instead.Â
He glances at his hands. They are getting a little blurry. Mickey doesnât take care of the tattoos there like he should, with lotions and creams to keep them from fading. He canât be bothered with the upkeep. He doesnât love the FUCK U-UP that Uncle Ronnie gave to him when he was thirteen. It was never something that he questioned. All his brothers had them, his dad had them, so it made sense for him to get them too. Theyâre all scarred, much like the one on his chest is, because Uncle Ronnie did a shoddy job and heâs never had them redone professionally.Â
âYeah, you wanna redo âem for me?â Mickey offers. Usually he would only get them redone if theyâre looking truly awful, but he has to keep them pretty for the job. Itâs not as if he could hide them, like he can the one on his chest and the Grim Reaper on his arm.Â
âOh, fuck yeah. That shitâs gonna hurt.â Tony says with sadistic joy. âNina! Film Mickeyâs pain for Instagram!â He yells, laughing.Â
âFuck you. Iâll get Stan to do it instead.â Mickey grunts, staring at the fading patches of ink on his fingers.Â
âI can do it! Iâve never done knuckles before.â Joey pipes up, looking a little too eager.Â
Mickey glances at him. âYeah, that fills me with fucking confidence.â He scoffs, not keen on having an inexperienced teen touch-up his tattoos.Â
Tony nods in agreement. âIâll watch, make sure heâs doing it good. Nina can still film your suffering.âÂ
âIâll get my camera.â Nina declares.Â
Apparently everyoneâs in agreement that itâs going to be Joey. The kid looks excited, and Mickey will feel like a real asshole if he shuts him down now. He takes a second to think about it, because he really doesnât want it done poorly. Heâs had enough terrible tattoos to last him a life time, and he was pretty sure that working in a tattoo parlour would get him decent tattoos for life. But he has seen Joeyâs work, and itâs good. Joeyâs been working on more clients recently and heâs yet to fuck up.Â
Eventually, he nods. âFine.âÂ
He pulls up to Joeyâs station, rolling along his wheelie chair. He loves his wheelie chair. Mickey beat Nina in a spinning contest once. Joeyâs delighted at the whole thing, but Mickeyâs uncertain. He wasnât exactly expecting to get a tattoo done today, and heâs concerned about Joeyâs abilities. And Joeyâs ecstatic expression. Itâs weird. Mickey thinks itâs odd to be so happy about tattooing some stupid letters on Mickeyâs fingers.Â
Tony wheels himself over too and Nina returns with her digital camera. She likes photography, apparently, and uses it whenever she can. Even though itâs not much better than a phone for taking pictures of tattoos and recording Mickeyâs suffering. He doesnât mind being put on their instagram. Itâs not got many followers, only a few hundred, and Tonyâs done way more embarassing things on there.Â
He lays his hands out on one of the higher stools they use for hand tattoos to save people from having to kill their backs slouching.Â
âYou ever thought about getting âem covered?â Tony asks, chewing loudly in Mickeyâs ear as he eats from the crisp packet in his hand.Â
âAll my family had some. Was like a tradition, I guess.â Mickey mutters, nervously eyeing up Joey as he prepares the needle.Â
âAh, yeah. I remember, I saw your dadâs once. âASSS HOLEâ, right?âÂ
âWhyâd you see my dadâs asshole, Tony?â Mickey asks, turning and raising an eyebrow at him.Â
Tony laughs. âUsed to bend him over in the showers.â
Mickey cringes at the imagery, wishing he hadnât started this conversation. Although, the idea of his dad taking it from someone is kind of funny, given how disgusted Terry would be about it.Â
âEw, Tone.â Nina grimaces.Â
âAh, come on, itâs a joke. Mickeyâs dadâs a Nazi. Iâd never bang a Nazi.â Tony says, all casual and calm.Â
Mickey grits his teeth, because heâd prefer to avoid talking about his father. Terryâs the worst, the absolute worst, and Mickey wishes he werenât attached to his name. He wishes he didnât have Terryâs blood.Â
âWoah, what?â Nina gapes, taken aback by the offhand omission.Â
Joey raises his eyebrows, but doesnât say anything.Â
âYeah, he had an âSWPâ tat on his chest. Clear as fuck.â Tony tells them, and Tony needs to shut his big fucking mouth. None of that is anyoneâs business. They can all judge Mickeyâs dad and their family as much as they want, but they werenât the ones who had to live with it. âAnd some Nazi eagle on his back.â
âJesus.â Nina mutters.Â
âWhatâs that mean?â Joey asks, curious and young.Â
âSomething White People.â Tony answers.Â
âSupreme White Power. My dadâs an asshole. Talk about something fucking new, Jesus.â Mickey mutters, keen on ending the conversation. Itâs embarrassing, if heâs honest. Mickey isnât like that, he was never really like that. Sure, for a while he said whatever Terry said like a broken parrot, but then he got older. Sure, he kept some Nazi crap in his room, but that stuff always made Terry less intent on giving him broken ribs. He learnt better. Even his brothers, who donât have a significant number of brain cells, learnt better. Some of his cousins didnât, but Mickey hates them anyway.Â
âDonât the Nazis hate gay people, Mickey?â Tony asks and Mickeyâs so close to giving him a sharp kick to the shin. He doesnât, but itâs supremely hard not to. Usually he would, Tony probably wouldnât care, but Tony isnât asking maliciously. Heâs curious like a kid, and itâs not as if Tony or any of them are well-versed in history - aside from Nina, because she actually went to school - to know these things.Â
âYeah, you fucking idiot.â He responds.Â
âWhatâs your dad think of Ian then?â Clearly, Tony doesnât have an off button. Mickey remembers a time when Tony got into a fight in prison, and the other dude bashed his head into a table. Maybe that messed up his ability to read social cues.Â
âWhat the fuck dâyou think, Tone?âÂ
âI think he doesnât like him.â Tony figures, like the genius fucker he is.Â
Mickey claps his hands sarcastically in applause.Â
âIâm ready now.â Joey tells them. It took him long enough.Â
Tony leans over Mickeyâs shoulder to watch, and Nina starts recording Joey work, focusing the camera onto Mickeyâs hands. It hurts the second the needle touches his fingers, and he scrunches his face against the pain.Â
âCareful, donât go deep. Knuckles are close to bone.â Tony inputs, which does the opposite of soothing Mickeyâs nerves. Surely, Joey should have known that before they started this.Â
Joey nods and keeps going, holding Mickeyâs fingers in a way that feels less clinical and more soft. He doesnât like it. Joeyâs hands feel too skinny and warm - they donât hold his hand steady enough. Mickeyâs firm with his touch when heâs tattooing people. This is strange, and along with the pain of it itâs not a very enjoyable experience.Â
âHaving fun?â Nina laughs.
Mickey scowls at her. âNo.â
Once itâs done, Joey cleans his fingers and Mickey dislikes that too. He doesnât particularly enjoy anyone touching him, but usually he can stand it. He doesnât remember the processes of the Grim Reaper tattoo making him feel so uncomfortable. Thereâs a clinical energy to giving tattoos, something clean and impersonal. Mickeyâs probably reading into it, but it feels strangely intimate. The way Joeyâs doing it feels odd. Mickey only wants Ian to try to be intimate with him, so it sets his nerves on fire.Â
Joey wraps each of his fingers with the clingfilm they have. They donât want to waste the more expensive second skin on the workers, and Mickeyâs never put anything protective on them before so he doesnât mind at all.Â
Mickey eats his lunch after, and decides he doesnât like Joey. Heâs not unbearable, not boring like his co-workers at Old Army, yet Mickey still doesnât like him. Mickey could probably manage in general conversation with Joey, he doesnât mind him when theyâre all laughing together, but as a whole, Mickey doesnât like him. He doesnât care that heâs only nineteen, Mickey knows when he dislikes a person. Itâs like how Ian doesnât like one of the nurses who works the weekend shift. Thereâs something normal about it. Something regular, and Mickey hasnât had many regular things in his life.Â
ââ
Ian notices the freshly wrapped tattoos on his fingers when Mickey walks through the door. He glances at them when Mickey sits beside him on the sofa, but only fleetingly.Â
âYou get your knuckles re-done?â He asks, as if he canât see that for himself.Â
Mickey shrugs. âYeah. The newbie did it. I donât fucking like that guy. Has a weird fucking⊠way about him. I donât know.â Mickey explains.Â
Ian grunts in acknowledgement, passing Mickey the remote control to switch the TV. He changes it from whatever cartoon Ian was watching and replaces it with a random movie thatâs half-way finished. It seems to be about murder, which is more fun than the poorly written kidsâ show Ian had on.Â
Stretching out on the couch, Ian yawns and throws a heavy arm around Mickeyâs shoulders. He never used to do that, not when Mickey first came out and not any time after, but apparently he likes it now. Mickey doesnât care either way, if heâs honest. Thereâs a comfort in having Ianâs weight around him, but he prefers the content smile Ian gives him when Mickey lets him. Theyâve gone so long being hidden, and Mickeyâs gone so long shrivelling himself up so that any touch felt like fire, that itâs a relief to be doing better, together, now.Â
âYour dad came by today.â Ian reveals, and Mickey tenses. Heâs had enough talk of his dad today to last years.Â
âWhy?â
Ian shrugs. âDonât know. I think he was drunk. He was yelling outside and pounding on the door. I couldnât work out what he wanted.â
âFucker.â Mickey mutters. He hates that his fatherâs so close by that heâs a constant threat looming over them. Terry would be enough of a threat from three states over. Itâs still a little shocking that he came over for no reason, because usually heâd have a purpose for it. Like trying to shoot Mickey. Or trying to shoot Ian. Or trying to strangle either of them. But a lot of the time, something sets him off. Their wedding set him off, their engagement set him off, Mickey coming out set him off.Â
I think I was gonna make this a bit of a jealous!Ian fic, with the new Joey character not realising how happy they are together or something. As a side note, I was going to have Terry be a bit of a dick and come by the tattoo studio to say some horrible things as per usual with him. I think I was intending for Ian to come and pick Mickey up after the police get Terry (a little hurt/comfort) and he would then make Joey back off.
A fill-in fic for season 11 after Ian says 'hit my husband again and I'll fucking kill you'
âFuck off.â Mickey snaps, storming down the hall.Â
âMick-â Ian tries, stumbling up the stairs after him.Â
âFuck you.â He mutters. He stomps into their room and slams the xylophone door shut behind him. Itâs difficult to close all the way, so Mickey tugs at it forcefully until he canât see Ianâs face anymore. He almost breaks it. âFucking twat door.â Ian hears him hiss, kicking it.Â
âCome on, Mick.â Ian says, trying to pull it back open. Mickey must be holding it closed from the inside, because he canât figure it out. âAre you serious?â He shouts through the poor quality wood.Â
âGo fuck yourself.â Mickey yells. âGo see your stupid brother!âÂ
âDonât be a dick, let me in.â Ian pleads.Â
âYouâre the fucking dick.â Mickey shouts back. âYou signed that goddamn lease when I said no. You just blamed me for fighting that asshole when he hit me first.â
âAnd Iâm sorry about that, okay? And you were being a bit of a prick to him-â
âAre you trying to apologise right now? âCause at this rate Iâm making you sleep on the couch for the rest of your stupid life.â Mickey snaps.
âMick-â
âAnd,â Mickey interrupts, âsince when does me being a prick mean I deserve a fucking punch in the face? I thought we talked about that too, but apparently not, asshole! Your dumb brother punches like a bitch, by the way. Barely felt it.âÂ
âMickey, please.â Ian begs, pulling the door again. It stays firm. âCome on, let me in. We can talk about it.â
âDonât wanna talk to you. You donât fucking listen to anything I say.â Mickey mutters.Â
âIâm sorry, okay? Can you open the door so I can talk to your fucking face? Câmon, baby.â Ian mumbles in an attempt to persuade him.Â
âThatâs not fucking fair, donât do that shit.â Mickey says. âJust leave me alone, Gallagher.â He huffs. It hurts Ianâs chest to hear Mickey sound so defeated. He regrets today, badly. Everything went much worse than he expected.Â
Ian sighs. He knows he wonât be able to talk to Mickey when heâs like this. The most Ianâs getting out of him, if Mickey were to let him in, is nonsensical insults.Â
âOkay.â Ian says to the door. âIâll be back in a bit, alright? Iâll bring dinner and frozen peas.âÂ
âFuck you.â Mickey mutters.
He hears him back away from the door, hears the mattress creak as Mickey sits down. Technically, Ian could get inside now. He wonât, though. Not when Mickey so obviously doesnât want him in the bedroom.Â
Rubbing at his eyebrow, Ian steps back. He feels like an idiot. He thought the apartment would be a good idea. Mickey liked it at first, and sometimes he needs a second to come around on big changes or decisions. But Ian should have listened to him, not the very persuasive sales lady. And Ian shouldnât have immediately assumed Mickey had started the fight. That didnât help the situation.Â
He treks down the stairs, brings something cold outside for his brother. He may as well deal with the other emotional wreck in his family. Ian steps outside with the pliers, handing them to Lip on the porch steps. A few furtive, guilty glances are sent Ianâs way. At least Lip knows he fucked up. He apologises immediately, to his credit. Ianâs still pissed, because as much as he understands that Mickey and Lip will probably never get along, it shouldnât end in a fight like that. Mickey was looking for a fight, Ian knows that too, but he shouldnât have gotten one. Not with family.Â
Lip talks for a while and Ian lets him vent about his problems, how he feels like his life is falling apart. Ian worries about him sometimes. He knows Lip is trying really hard to stay sober, but heâll always worry about him slipping. The baby seems to help. Ian sees the way Lip looks at Fred, like that little kid is his reason for being alive, for staying sober, for keeping going. Ian doesnât offer much input, just allows him to talk. Clearly, he needs to.Â
âHit my husband again, Iâll fucking kill you.â Ian snaps once Lipâs done. Because Ian will, for one, and Lip needs to know it, for two. He canât keep making comments about Mickey not being family and he canât keep trying not to include Mickey in big decisions, like selling the house. Not when Ianâs also not included Mickey in big decisions.Â
âYeah, right.â Lip nods, accepting it easily, like itâs what he expected.Â
They speak about the painting that Frank stole for a little longer. Ianâs nervous to go back upstairs. He hopes Mickey will at least let him in the bedroom.Â
It gets to the point where he canât talk to Lip anymore before Mickey will definitely get fired up again. Thereâs usually a small window for these things where he can actually talk to him when Mickeyâs upset. Itâs not that Mickeyâs unreasonable, itâs just that Mickey doesnât like talking about his feelings. Heâs never been good at it, but heâs better than he used to be. Ianâs proud of him for it and he hopes this doesnât set him back.Â
No oneâs made dinner, so Ian finds some leftover macaroni and cheese that seems good. He also brings up beer and frozen sweetcorn which is years old, stuffed in the back of the freezer. Itâs probably been used as an ice pack for bruises by most of their family.Â
Before he knocks, Ian takes a deep breath. He really hopes he can soothe this over. He already feels guilty enough. Ian raises his fist and raps his knuckles against the flimsy wood.Â
âCan I come in now?â He calls. It comes out passive aggressive.
âFuck you.â Mickey snaps back. âIf youâre not gonna be a prick.âÂ
Sliding open the door, Ian smiles half-heartedly at him. âIâm not. I come in peace.â He says, tossing him the frozen food. Mickey doesnât look up from the magazine heâs flipping through, simply picking up the ice pack and pressing it against his face.Â
Mickey grunts at him, ignoring him in favour of the page in front of him.Â
âYou okay?â He asks.
âYes.â Mickey hisses, teeth gritted.Â
âBrought you food.â Ian offers, presenting the mac and cheese.Â
âNot hungry.â Mickey mutters, angrily flicking the page.Â
âIâll, uh⊠Iâll just leave it here, then.â Ian says, placing it on their bedside table. âBeer?â He suggests.Â
ââKay.â Mickey mutters.
Ian places it in his outstretched hand and sighs. He sinks down beside him on the bed, staring at the side of Mickeyâs face longingly. He hates this. Seeing Mickey sad - especially when itâs because of him - always makes him sad.Â
âIâm sorry.â He says. âShouldnâtâve signed the lease without you, when you already said no. Shouldnâtâve blamed you for fighting with Lip, okay? I was being an ass and Iâm sorry.â He forces the words out, disliking the bitter feeling of apologising. He dislikes Mickeyâs sad face more, though.Â
âYou done coddling your fucking brother, then?â Mickey mumbles.Â
âWanted to see you. You didnât wanna see me, remember?â Ian says.Â
Mickey grunts again, not taking his eyes off the magazine.Â
âI know I fucked up-â
âItâs not that you fucked up.â Mickey snaps. âYou donât fucking listen to me. Or- or you think everything I say is stupid. How long did it take you to think the security business was a good idea?â
âThat was-â Ian tries. Mickey glares at him and itâs the first time heâs looked at Ian since he walked in, so Ian snaps his mouth shut.Â
âYou ignored when I said I didnât wanna stay in that stuffy, rich-bitch place. You fucking assumed I would hit your brother when you didnât see shit. You didnât even bother to ask me what happened.â Mickey says sharply. âItâs fucking shitty. You think Iâm an idiot.âÂ
âNo I donât.â Ian argues, horrified. Mickey scoffs at him. âJesus, do you really think that?â
He doesnât wait for Mickey to reply, he doesnât want to know the answer. Reaching out, Ian tugs on Mickeyâs bicep, encouraging him to release the magazine and uncurl himself. Mickey glances at him with caution, clearly defensive.Â
âI donât think youâre an idiot. Of course I donât think youâre a fucking idiot, Mickey. I thought the weed business was a bad idea because I thought it was illegal. I signed the lease without you because you liked it and you got freaked out and I figured I would take the deal while they had it.â Ian explains. âBut I shouldâve listened to you. And Iâm sorry about you and Lip. I didnât think Lip would hit you first, or start a fight with you.â
âOh, âcause your brotherâs such an angel-â
âBecause fighting you would be stupid.â Ian huffs. âLipâs never been a great fighter. Starting a fight with you is just⊠stupid, alright? Heâd lose. Badly.â He sees Mickey smirk and try to hide it, forcing himself to stay mad.
âFuck you.â Mickey says. âIâm still pissed.âÂ
Sighing, Ian pulls on his arm again and brings Mickey away from the magazine. âI know. I get it, yâknow. I didnât have your back. I promise it wonât happen again.â
âLip said he was sorry, by the way. I didnât think I needed to make him say it to your face, because I made sure it wouldnât happen again.â Ian tells him. âNo matter how antagonistic youâre being.âÂ
A sharp glare is sent in Ianâs direction, and he winces. Maybe it was too soon to make a joke, or bring up Mickeyâs part in the initial argument.
âHowâd you make sure of that?â He asks eventually, once heâs stopped glaring.Â
Ian shrugs. âTold him Iâd kill him if he did it again.âÂ
âWhat?â Mickey says, nearly snapping his neck with how quickly he turns to face him. âYou said that?â
âYeah.â Ian says, furrowing his brows in confusion.Â
âWait, what did you actually say? Your exact words?â Mickey asks, staring intently at him.Â
Ianâs a little confused by the sudden change in mood, but Mickeyâs looking at him now. Thatâs progress. âI said âhit my husband again and Iâll fucking kill youâ.â Ian answers hesitantly.Â
Something in Mickeyâs eyes lights up. âSeriously?â
âYeah, I mean, Iâm not actually going-âÂ
âShut the fuck up, donât ruin it.â Mickey mutters, swinging a leg across Ianâs lap and fisting a hand into his hair.Â
Mickey presses their mouths together, pushing his tongue into Ianâs mouth. He gets with the programme quickly, holding onto Mickeyâs hips and grabbing his ass. He should have mentioned threatening Lip earlier. Threats always make Mickey hard.Â
Humming, Ian yanks him closer, nudging their crotches together. Mickey aggressively holds onto Ianâs hair while his other hand pushes into his collarbone, just beneath his neck. Ian slips his hands under Mickeyâs shirt, spreading his fingers to extend under his jeans as well.Â
âHottest thing youâve ever said.â Mickey mumbles into his mouth. âStill pissed, though.âÂ
Ian grabs him by his thighs, flipping him onto his back and climbing on top of him, between Mickeyâs legs. Still rough with it, Mickeyâs hands cling to the back of his neck, fingernails digging in. They keep kissing, Mickeyâs teeth rubbing against his bottom lip angrily.Â
Pulling away from his mouth, Ian kisses along his jaw, down his neck.Â
âYouâre my favourite person.â He mutters, pecking the space under his ear. âYouâre smart. I donât think youâre an idiot. And I hate,â Ian tells him, leaning back to look in his eyes. Mickey avoids the eye contact, staring at a point on Ianâs shoulder, âthat I made you think otherwise.â
âYouâre an asshole.â Mickey mumbles back, grabbing for Ianâs shirt and worrying the material between his fingers. âI just-â He starts, voice suddenly thick. âJust hate fucking feeling like you donât like me, âcause-â
âThat I donât like you? Mickey, thatâs-â
âShut up.â Mickey says, slapping a hand on his chest. ââCause sometimes itâs likeâŠâ
âLike what?â Ian prompts, watching him in fear.Â
âLike youâre waiting for me to change. Or be someone else. And- and Iâm not, I canât be.â Mickey murmurs, staring at Ianâs shirt and sniffing slightly.Â
âMickey, I donât want you to change. I love you. Iâll always love you, itâs part of me. Youâre part of me. Iâm sorry I made you feel so shitty.â He says, kissing the joint of Mickeyâs jaw. He hates that he made Mickey question anything. âOf course I like you.â
Never posted it because I felt like all of my fics made Ian look like the bad guy and I didn't want that to be all I wrote about, because obviously the both have flaws. I also felt like all I'd been writing was Mickey being comforted, so I didn't want to post another variation of the same thing.
An outside POV of Lip that I never finished
Lip remembers meeting Mickey on his first day of school. Lip had a ridiculous head of hair back then that still sprung into insane curls no matter how hard Fiona tried to tame it. He remembers telling everyone to call him Lip, not Phillip and not Phill, and no one questioned it. No one questioned much back then, at that age. There were masses of people at that school. He had been terrified he wouldnât ever remember everyoneâs names.Â
He remembers finding classes easier than everyone else. He could read quicker than they did, he could understand what the teacher was talking about when she started up about numbers while everyone else looked dumbfounded. It boosted his ego. Monica had always said he was a smart boy, when she was around and spoke to him, but it was just something she said until it was proven right before his eyes.Â
And he remembers Mickey.Â
It was hard, back then, not to know him.Â
Their first lesson, Lip was buzzing with a nervous energy, hands twitching as he looked around. Fiona was a few grades above him and Ian was still too young to be in school, so he was alone, without his family, for the first time. Mickey was sat beside him. Lip isnât sure if that was a choice either of them made or if that was decided by their teacher, but it didnât matter. Mickey was beside him, and he was small in the same way Lip was small. He looked skinny, and too young, and he had a bruise on his face. Lip didnât have bruises, but he remembers being hungry. He had seven dollars in his pocket to buy lunch and maybe some extra snacks to bring home for Ian.Â
The teacher called Lipâs name during registration, he answered in a squeaky voice that was loud and confident enough to correct her. He wanted to be called Lip. Many names down the line, the teacher called for Mickeyâs name, except she didnât say his name. She said some mangled version of Mickeyâs full name, which Lip canât ever remember. Mickey corrected her too, and Lip felt some kind of solidarity with him immediately. The teacher also asked Lip if he had an older sister, apparently sheâd taught her a while back. The teacher said it with a smile. She said a similar thing to Mickey. Asked him if he had brothers, and frowned when he nodded.Â
They both had nicknames and they were both small and they both had siblings and that was all Lip really needed to want to talk to him.Â
Lip remembers them being friends briefly. So briefly that itâs only a blip in his mind. They split a granola bar once at recess. Mickey was quiet but he was funny when he did speak. He remembers Mickey being the first person his age heâd ever heard say fuck. Fuck Miss Pendleton, he had muttered, she told me my homework was bad.Â
It didnât last, though. It was short and not all that sweet or meaningful. Mickey wasnât a very social person. He talked to Lip if Lip talked to him but most of the time he kept to himself. Lip made friends quickly. People wanted to copy his work and Lip didnât mind that when it meant he would have more people to talk to at lunch.Â
He remembers when he stopped hanging out with Mickey and sharing his snacks with him. It was when he was sitting with some classmates and they were cutting up paper snowflakes for Christmas. Mickey hadnât been there. Or maybe he was and Lip remembers it wrong. One boy, Michael - the other Mickey, who was bitter about sharing a name - asked why Lip was friends with Mickey. He said it with a nose crinkled in disgust. Lip didnât have an answer, but Michael kept going with it. He said Mickey smelled bad, said he was weird and ugly and that his parents knew Mickeyâs parents and they were really bad people.Â
Lip didnât know much about loyalty then. He knew about sticking by his family, but Mickey wasnât family. He was just someone he sat with sometimes who told good jokes. So he remembers listening to Michael and not defending Mickey. He remembers everyone else in their group of friends agreeing with Michael that yes, Mickey was weird and no, they wouldnât want to hang out with him. He remembers them saying that anyone who was friends with Mickey was weird too, smelt bad too, and Lip, because low social status is something you can catch like a cold, stopped talking to him. He called Mickey weird to his face once, and Mickey called him a dick and then got a detention.Â
After that, Lip had a bunch of friends. He wasnât ever in one group, he was popular enough to be able to mingle with almost everybody. He didnât think about Mickey much. He remembers having a good time in school. The classes were easy and people came easy to him, too, and he didnât start having a problem with anyone until he was older. People started calling him a smartass, then. It didnât matter much to him. He found it pretty funny and most people still liked him. His parents were shit, but school was good.Â
He remembers it somewhat fondly, his school life. Things were more simple then. He knows Mickey remembers it differently.Â
Lip is sure Mickey got over all of that a long time ago. They werenât hostile to each other afterwards. They found a sort of peace between them, where they both understood each otherâs situations, knew about each other and their families, and that was it. Mickey would ask him to write English papers for him and Lip would buy weed off him sometimes. They werenât friends, they clashed and annoyed and frustrated each other too much for that, but they didnât care enough about each other to be enemies.Â
Mickey is different now. Lip still sees him in a similar way to how he always has, if heâs honest, but thereâs a major change. Heâs not oh, right, the Mickey that sits at the back of Math class or the Mickey that cussed out the Chemistry teacher or the Mickey that punched Michael for calling him dirty or the Mickey that sells coke on Thursdays anymore. Heâs Ianâs Mickey, now.Â
Lip doesnât realise it until he bumps into some of his old school friends in The Alibi Room. Heâs drinking a coke at the bar, speaking to Kev about how to deal with teething babies when Evan and Richard walk in. They greet each other with surprise, an easygoing familiarity that makes Lip love the Southside so much, and sit together at a table to catch up. They both order beers, and Lip sees Richard narrow his eyes at Lipâs coke, but he doesnât say anything.Â
Evan moved away, is living with a girl all the way in Canada. He complains about visas and his boss jovially. Lip laughs along even though he canât really relate. He tries to avoid any talk of college when they ask. Richard is still in Chicago, but on the other side of town now. Heâs a chef at a small Italian place, says Lip should stop by and Lip agrees even though that will never happen. He tells them about Fred and about Tami and how heâs fixing up bikes now and loves the work.Â
âYou still living at home?â Richard asks, without any judgement.Â
âYep.â Lip nods. âWe all are, aside from Fiona. She moved away a couple years ago. Itâs crammed in that house.â He chuckles, shaking his head.Â
âI bet.â Evan agrees. âGotta have what? Three grown men and your sister living there? Plus Frank and a little brother and a baby and your girl?â Evan blows out a breath. âThatâs a lot.âÂ
âFrank doesnât live with us anymore, we got rid of him a while back.â Lip says. âStank the whole house up. Not sure what heâs doing now, but itâs far from us.âÂ
Richard grins, laughing at the insults to Frank. âYeah, donât blame you for that. Still, though. You got three brothers, a sister and your family. Thatâs busy.âÂ
âYeah.â Lip says. âAnd Mickey, too. So we donât have much space.âÂ
He watches their brows furrow in sync. âMickey? Which Mickey?â Evan asks.Â
âYâknow.â Lip prompts, confused by their puzzlement. âIanâs Mickey.âÂ
âOnly Mickey I remember is the one with those tattoos.â Richard says. âWhat did they say? Fuck you or something?â
âYeah, that Mickey.â Lip nods. âIanâs Mickey.âÂ
âWhyâs he living with you? Ainât he got that place a few minutes from here?â Richard asks. âThe house next to the L?â
It surprises Lip suddenly, that they donât know. Why should they know, he thinks, when they moved on from the neighbourhood quickly after school and didnât look back. Everyone around here knows Mickey and knows Ian and knows bits and pieces and rumours of their story. The gossip is usually about Mickey coming out or Ian going crazy, as people like to call it, but they know. Itâs a shock to Lipâs system that some people donât know all of that.Â
âShit.â Lip shakes his head. âYou guys didnât hear?â He asks, eyebrows raised.Â
âHear what?â Evan says. âHe going out with your sister or something?â
âAinât she kinda young?â Richard adds, nose wrinkled.Â
âNo, heâs not dating Debbie.â Lip scoffs, rolling his eyes. That thought is pretty disgusting. âHeâs with Ian. Theyâve been together for⊠like a decade now, Jesus. Theyâre engaged and shit.âÂ
Their mouths drop open, and they blink at him. Itâs almost comical. Lip forces down a laugh.Â
âHeâs gay?â Evan asks, shock-horror painted across his face.Â
âUh-huh.â Lip nods.Â
âThatâs insane.â Richard gasps, blinking fast. âAnd heâs engaged to your brother.âÂ
âYeah.â Lip says. Itâs weird now that heâs thinking about it, looking at it the way they are now. âSurprised you didnât hear. It was pretty big news for a while.â
âI fucking bet it was big news.â Evan scoffs. âThis is the Mickey Iâm thinking of, right? Dark hair, short, juvie regular?â
Lip nods and Evan shakes his head in pure disbelief.Â
âThatâs fucked, man. Mustâve pissed his dad off.â Richard says.Â
âOh yeah.â Lip laughs. âHe tried to kill him.â
Richard hums, unsurprised. âSo heâs living with you now?â At Lipâs nod, Richard winces. âWhatâs that like?â
Lip shrugs. âItâs fine. I donât see him much. I mean, obviously he spends most of his time with Ian.âÂ
âHeâs not a complete asshole anymore?â Evan checks, scornfully.
âOh no, he is.â Lip says. Heâs sort of joking though, and he wonders at what point he stopped thinking of Mickey as a complete prick. âHeâs just⊠Heâs fine now, yâknow?â
âAnd youâre totally cool with him fucking your brother?â Richard asks, eyebrows raised.Â
âI mean, theyâve been together for years. If I had a problem, it wouldnât matter at this point.â Lip says. He never really had an issue with it. It confused him at first, and there were times when he thought Mickey was bad for Ian, but theyâre older now. Theyâre also far too stubborn about each other to care if Lip had an opinion.Â
âI really canât imagine Mickey being gay.â Evan says. âLike⊠I just canât picture him fucking a guy.â
âWhy the fuck would you do that?â Lip asks, grimacing.Â
âNot like that, obviously.â Evan says, rolling his eyes. âJust⊠he really doesnât seem the type.â
âYeah, well. He would if you lived with them.â Lip mutters
Lost motivation for this one. I felt like I'd already done the outside POV thing to death. I still really like that type of writing and I'll probably do more in the future, it's just something that I wrote too much of in a short space of time so I got slightly sick of it and needed a break from outside POV.
fill-in/divergent fic I wrote for s10 when Mickey comes out of prison
He hasnât been able to stop thinking about it. Sitting on Ianâs old bed, smoking a cigarette, still reeling from good reunion sex while Ian pants beside him, Mickeyâs still thinking about it.Â
This bed brings back memories. It hasnât changed. Ianâs old army posters are still pinned to the wall. The bunkbed remains in the corner and the street sign is hung on the door. This bed and this room and the distinct smell of the Gallagher house - warm and comforting but slightly stale - it brings a lot back.Â
Mickey remembers lying with Ian in this bed years ago. He remembers guilt squeezing his lungs because he didnât pick Ian up from the psych ward, he left him alone to deal with a daunting mental illness instead. Mickey hated himself for that. He remembers the guilt and the anger and the consuming worry that Ian might not be okay. He came here, eventually, with sad apologies and the echos of booze still in his skin. Back then, he thought Ian needed him. He wanted to be something stable for Ian to rely on. He remembers Ian letting himself be held and taken care of for that night.Â
Then there was the fear. Ian woke up with panic on his breath and delusions in his brain and Mickey fixed it. He knew what to do when all of Ianâs siblings looked on, stunned. Mickey wasnât afraid of Ian, despite being terrified of what could happen to Ian, so he calmed him down. Didnât judge him, didnât let him keep running from the reality that he needed help. Mickey looked after him and worried about him and stayed throughout the med changes and the side effects and Ianâs mood dropping into some numb, mean territory. He stayed when Ian punched him and called him a faggot.Â
Mickey doesnât blame Ian for that. He tries not to think about it. The past is stacked away in a corner, better left alone.Â
He doesnât look out the window, but he knows the porch steps are looming below them. He remembers Ian breaking up with him there. He remembers Ian looking on passively as Sammie shot a gun at him, like he wouldnât have cared if a bullet lodged itself in Mickeyâs head and killed him.Â
He hates this house.Â
Itâs not the past that he canât stop thinking about. Itâs the fact that Ian doesnât really love him. Mickeyâs been thinking about it for years. It was a quiet voice in Mexico, a scream in prison when ian didnât visit. A nasty hiss when they were in prison together. On a loop in his mind, it repeats. How throughout the last five years, Ianâs taken every opportunity to get away from him. How the only time Ian stayed was when they were trapped together in a cell with no other options. Ianâs good, Mickey knows that more than anything else. He probably felt bad for Mickey, for poor Mickey who canât take a fucking hint, and that was why he offered up his house when they were in prison. Ian probably didnât think Mickey would take him up on it.Â
In prison with Ian, Mickey ignored the voice telling him that Ian moved on, stopped loving him or never did, because it was easier. It was easier when they were stuck together. When he didnât have to worry about Ian slipping away from him.Â
Now heâs out, sitting in Ianâs old bedroom with all the memories rushing back with that stupid smell of something warm and comforting but slightly stale, and heâs only been out for two hours. Heâs been out for two hours and itâs already too much. Mickey remembers sitting alone in prison a by nd needing Ian and Ian not being there. He remembers trying to accept that Ian didnât care about him anymore, that he was being forgotten and left alone to crumble into the concrete of that cold cell.Â
Ian offered him his house out of politeness, it wasnât genuine. Mickey knows Ian deserves better. He doesnât want to be stuck with the same dirty criminal he fucked around with when he was a kid. Mickey imagines him talking to his family, rolling his eyes about how desperate and lonely Mickey is and how Ian will have to let him stay for a while to make up for Mickey helping him out in the joint.Â
Shaking his head, Mickey canât ignore it anymore. He canât sit next to Ian, he canât stay in this room. Mickey wonât force himself somewhere he isnât wanted. Dropping his legs off the bed, he searches for his clothes, finding his boxers tangled in the bedsheets and his jeans halfway under the bed.Â
âWhereâre you going?â Ian asks, sitting up on his elbows. The move really shows off his abs and Mickey notes how good he looks. How he could get any guy he wanted so why would he want Mickey? Mickeyâs delusional.Â
âMy dadâs place.â Mickey replies, turning away from him. He pulls his shirt over his head, starts looking for his jacket.Â
âWhat?â Ian snaps. His voice is fast, like heâs been surprised. âWhy?â
He shrugs. He doesnât want Ian to feel bad. Mickey will be fine, heâs been fine before in that house. âTo see if thereâs a free room.âÂ
âWhat?â Ian shouts again, Mickey hears him getting off the bed. He furrows his brows at him. âWhy the fuck are you doing that? Did I do something?â Ian asks, scrambling out of his bed and searching for his boxers.Â
âNo.â Mickey answers. Ian didnât do anything. Mickey just doesnât want to stay somewhere he isnât welcome anymore. He canât keep forcing Ian to love him.Â
âThen why are you going?â Ian says, rushing to block the bedroom door with his boxers finally on. âYou were fine three seconds ago.â
Will Ian really make him say it? Is he that cruel? Mickey just wants to speed up the inevitable. Ian getting tired of him and leaving will happen eventually, and Mickey wants to save him the trouble.Â
Mickey sighs, staring at somewhere past Ian as he rubs his tongue against his lip. âItâs my house.â He answers lamely. âThereâs no space here anyway.âÂ
âYes there is.â Ian argues, making sure that Mickey canât squeeze past him and make a run for it. âThereâs plenty of space. And itâs not your house, itâs your psychotic, abusive dadâs house.â Ian tells him, breathing hard with wide eyes. He looks scared. Confused, maybe. âWhy donât you want to stay here?â He asks, eyebrows tilted and voice soft.Â
âItâs fine.â Mickey tells him. âItâs just easier, there are too many people in this house anyway.â He sniffs, rubbing at his nose and trying to get past Ian.Â
Ian moves, throwing a hand against the door so Mickey canât reach for it. He huffs, presses his lips together.Â
âDid I do something? Whyâre you pissed at me?â Ian asks, eyes clear and worried. Mickey avoids looking directly at them. Thatâs always when he forgets himself.Â
âIâm not.â Mickey scoffs. âIâm just getting out of your way.â
ââOut of my wayâ?â Ian asks incredulously. âYouâre not in my way.â
âYouâre kinda in mine right now.â Mickey points out, waving a hand at Ianâs human blockade.Â
âI donât give a fuck.â Ian says, narrowing his eyes. His voice is sharper now, like heâs angry. Thatâs good. Mickey cab deal with anger better. âWhere the fuck did all this shit come from?â
âDidnât come from anywhere-â
âBullshit.â Ian spits.Â
âItâs not a big fucking deal, man.â
âYou choosing to live with your evil dad rather than with me? Oh yeah, no big deal.â Ian scoffs, voice steadily raising. âExcuse me for being stressed out when youâve only been here for thirty fucking minutes and youâre already leaving.âÂ
âIâm not leaving, Iâm just-âÂ
âThen what the fuck is it, Mickey? Did I piss you off? Are you breaking up with me?â Ian asks, yelling now. Heâs still against the door.Â
âFine.â Ian snaps. âThen Iâll come live with you. Iâm sure your dad will love that.âÂ
His face is stubborn, chin jutted out as he clenches his jaw. When Ian decides something he digs his fingers into it and doesnât let it go. Mickey sighs. Ianâs a good person, itâs easy to think he cares. Ian does care, but he cares about Mickey the same way he cares about every other person. He isnât special. Mickeyâs like another one of those kids Ian told him about, the ones who lived in Ianâs exâs shelter. Something like that, anyway. Ian doesnât want Mickey getting hurt, but that doesnât mean he loves him. That means Ianâs good, or feels he owes it to Mickey since Mickey saved his ass so many times in prison.Â
âFor fuckâs sake, Gallagher.â Mickey sighs, rubbing his eyebrow.Â
âAnd Iâm Gallagher now.â Ian scoffs. âFuck you, Mickey. At least tell me what Iâve done if youâre gonna leave. You canât just get out of prison, come here for a quick fuck, then live somewhere else without a fucking explanation!â He shouts, burning his enraged gaze into Mickey. That was poor planning on his part. He didnât think the reminder that Ian stopped loving him would hit him so hard here. He thought he could push it aside. Itâs been years of ignoring it, though. Itâs not fair on either of them to ignore it. âGive me a good fucking reason for you to leave and maybe Iâll let you go. For once in your life, just tell me-â
âIâm fucking tired.â Mickey snaps back, cutting him off. âOkay? Iâm fucking tired of this shit. Iâm tired of you telling me all this shit, like you want me to stay in your fucking house and that you love me when itâs not fucking true. Thatâs not fair, Gallagher. Just let me leave.â He stares at the ground, sniffing sharply to keep all the emotions inside.Â
Attempting to shove his way past, Mickey steps around Ian. Before he can get to the door, Ian grabs his wrists in a tight grip and steps up close.Â
âWhat the fuck.â Ian hisses. âYou donât think that.âÂ
âFuck you.â Mickey spits back, staring at where Ianâs hands are crushing his wrists together. He doesnât mind it. Heâll take whatever he can get from Ian, really. Itâs hard to remind himself that he needs to leave.Â
âDâyou really fucking think that?â Ian repeats, squinting down at Mickey. He refuses to meet his eyes.Â
âI think I donât wanna have no place to fucking live when you dump me again.â Mickey mutters. âSo I wanna see if thereâs a free fucking room in my dadâs house.âÂ
âIâm not gonna dump you again.â Ian tells him, tightening his grip. âI- I didnât mean to dump you, Mick. It was complicated- I was sick and I didnât want you to have to deal with it, I didnât want to be a burden. It wasnât to do with you.â He rushes to explain, shaking his head quickly.Â
Mickey scoffs. âYeah, right. Thatâs why you dated a bunch of guys after dumping me.âÂ
âYou were in prison!â Ian shouts.Â
âAnd you didnât fucking visit!â Mickey yells back. âYou donât know half of what fucking happened in that prison, Gallagher. You donât know what it was like with Terry a block over. You donât know how much I fucking wished that someone visited, that someone fucking cared.â He shakes his head, tries to pull his hands from Ianâs to push them into his eyes. Ian doesnât let him go.Â
âSvetlana-â
âStopped coming after she sent divorce papers.âÂ
âMandy-â
âDidnât even fucking tell me she skipped town.â Mickey says. He sucks in a breath, tries to push all the reminders away. He doesnât want Ian to feel guilty. He doesnât want to talk about the past. This isnât how it was meant to go. Itâs all about Ian, about Ian who stopped loving him somewhere along the line, who maybe never did. Itâs about Ian being good and not wanting to hurt Mickey again. Itâs about Mickey letting Ian go. Not making Ian love him. âLook, itâs fine, okay?â Mickey says, smiling toothlessly at Ian. âMânot trying to make you feel bad, itâs just better if I go.â
âNo, no. Itâs not.â Ian says, voice shaken. âItâs not better. Jesus, Mick, Iâm so fucking sorry. There were- there were reasons for it, I swear. Iâll tell you if you want. But Iâm sorry.â
âItâs fine.â Mickey says, shrugging. âDonât need to be sorry. Itâs not a big deal. You broke up with me, right? You didnât have to visit. But you stopped loving me, Ian.â He says with more clarity, now. âYou didnât miss me and you stopped loving me and thatâs fucking fine. I get it, you were too good for me anyway. You donât have to feel bad about it, you donât have to feel bad for me. I just wanna go. No hard feelings.â He tries to smile in a way thatâs comforting, tries to meet Ianâs eyes.Â
Ian looks horrified, mouth parted and brows furrowed like heâs in pain. Like Mickey just kneed him in the stomach. He tries to pull himself free again, but Ian doesnât let him.Â
âKinda becoming a hostage situation, man.â Mickey chuckles, shaking his hands.
âWhat the fuck is wrong with you?â Ian hisses. Raising his eyebrows in surprise, Mickey glances back at Ianâs face. He seems torn between a bottomless anger and pure pain.Â
âDonât ever fucking say any of that again.â Ian says, low and furious. âDonât think that shit again, whatâs wrong with you? How could you fucking say that? Do you really think that little of me, Mickey? That I would stay with you because I felt bad for you?âÂ
âI didnât mean it like that.â Mickey sighs, rolling his eyes.Â
âI donât care.â Ian says, almost snarling. âYou donât know how much I missed you. You clearly canât understand how much I fucking love you. I love you more than anything. You donât get to just decide that I donât.âÂ
âYou donât have to say that shit, Gallagher. Itâs fine.â
âStop saying that!â Ian yells. âItâs not fine and I do have to say it, âcause you donât get it! Why arenât you getting it? Why donât you believe me? I love you, Mickey.â
He shakes his head, shoves at ianâs chest. âYouâre a fucking asshole. Stop saying that.â
âNo.â Ian says. âI wonât.â
âThatâs not fucking fair, Ian.â Mickey snaps. He canât hear it anymore. He could barely stand to hear it in prison. Not here, not in this room, not when Mickey just told him everything heâs been thinking.Â
âNo, itâs not.â Ian agrees, still angry. âItâs not fair that you donât believe me. Itâs not fair that youâve not been telling me you feel like this.â He seems to realise something with a small frown. âHow long have you been thinking that?âÂ
Mickey sighs. âI donât fucking know.â He mutters. Itâs not something he thinks. Itâs something he knows.Â
Ian seems to disagree with that. He clenches his jaw again and releases Mickeyâs wrists, grabbing his forearms tight instead.Â
âDonât think like that about yourself. I wonât let you. Obviously, I loved you. I loved you when you were in prison and I loved you when you were in Mexico and I love you now.â Ian tells him, staring at him earnestly.Â
In a sharp tug, Mickey finally breaks his arms free from Ianâs confines. He can feel his eyes stinging, adding to the humiliation of this entire ordeal. Rubbing the balls of his hands into his eyes, Mickey turns his back on Ian and sniffs, keeping it all at bay. This is embarrassing. He hates this, wishes Ian would save him the trouble and just let him go.Â
âShut the fuck up.â He grunts, facing the window as he recollects himself. Itâs cruel for Ian to keep the lie going when Mickey gave him an out. It hurts.
âHey, come here.â Ian says, softening his voice.Â
âFuck off.âÂ
âMickâŠâ Ian murmurs, grabbing his shoulder.Â
Mickey shakes him off, jamming his hands into his eyes. They keep trying to cry. âFuck you.â He mumbles.Â
With a sigh, Ian grabs him again, pushing through Mickeyâs attempts to get him away. Maybe he doesnât try as hard as he could have. Maybe Ian knows that if Mickey really wants him to fuck off, heâd punch him in the face. He doesnât. Instead he shoves at Ian and calls him a prick and then Ianâs holding him firmly against his body. His arms wrap around his shoulders and back and Mickey sort of wants to kill him.Â
âI love you.â Ian says.
Mickey hates him so much. He really hates him, especially when those words make the tears worse until heâs crying into Ianâs chest. He feels Ianâs hand against the back of his head, not letting him get away. Mickey refuses to hug him back.Â
Itâs not like Ian hasnât done this before. Ianâs cried in Mickeyâs arms. Whether it was because of a depressive episode or a really sad movie, itâs happened. Itâs just not embarrassing when Ian does it. Ianâs allowed to cry. Heâs the only person Mickey doesnât mind crying, aside from Mandy.Â
But itâs humiliating and disgusting and gross for Mickey to cry. He hates it, wishes more than anything for the tears to just stop, but that only seems to fuel them onwards.Â
âI was gonna stab someone so I could stay in prison with you.â Ian reminds him. âI wanted to be with you. I didnât want you to be sad. I didnât want you to get hurt or do something stupid to make your sentence longer. I did it because I fucking love you and I worry about you and I knew Iâd miss you. I wouldnât do that shit for anyone else.â He sighs. âOnly reason I didnât was âcause you stopped me. âCause you said youâd be okay.â
âDonât fucking-â Mickey mumbles, rubbing at his face and shaking his head. âDonât need to say all that shit.â
âObviously I fucking do, Mickey.â Ian says, some of the old anger returning. âYou fucking lied to me. You said you knew that I loved you, but you donât. Do I need to tell you everything I love about you? Is that what I need to do to prove this shit?âÂ
âDonât fucking do that.â Mickey mutters, sniffing and staring at his feet so Ian wonât see the tears still falling. âTorturing me already.â He laughs, a breathy, tired thing. Itâs not funny. None of this is funny.Â
âI thought about you all the time when you were gone.â Ian tells him. Mickey feels him lean his cheek on the top of Mickeyâs head. Tall asshole. âIâm sorry I didnât visit. I didnât want to hurt you. Also thought you hated me. But mostly I didnât want to hurt you of all people. You didnât know what you were getting into with my Bipolar, not the way my family did.â
âWerenât gonna hurt me.â Mickey mutters.Â
âI already had. I ran off with a kid. I cheated. I punched you in the face.â Ian says solemnly, bitterly.Â
âDonât blame you for that.â
âI know, but I still did it.â He says. âI didnât want to keep hurting you. The other guys I dated werenât you, Mickey. Didnât care as much about hurting their feelings, even though that sounds shitty.âÂ
Mickey sniffs again. His nose and eyes are starting to sting, but he doesnât pull away.Â
âYou canât think I donât love you. You canât think you donât deserve me or some bullshit. You deserve good things, Mick. You deserve to be loved. I love you.â He punctuates the statement with a kiss to the top of his head.Â
Mickey sort of wants to punch him. He also wants to jump out of the window. He mainly wants to stay here and try to convince himself that Ian means it.Â
âIf you guys are gonna argue again, can you do it outside? Tammiâs putting Fred down for a nap.â Debbie startles him out of the moment, stepping into Ianâs room without knocking.Â
Mickey slips free from Ianâs arms and turns away again, pushing the water back into his face and refusing to look at her.Â
âIs that Mickey?â She asks, he guesses Ian is herding her towards the door.Â
âYeah.â Ian hisses. âJust go, okay? Weâll be quiet.âÂ
âI thought you were yelling at Lip. Whyâre you yelling at Mickey?â
âIâm not. Weâre fine.â Ian says.Â
âYou were, I heard you.â Debbie argues. âDid you make him cry?â
âNo, I didnât. Itâs fine, Debs. Heâs fine. Just go.â
âI told you, you canât break up with him again. I like him. Heâs better than your other boyfriends, anyway.âÂ
âIâm not. Weâre fine. This isnât- Heâs fine. I didnât make him cry.âÂ
âOkay. Iâll see you both later then. Donât be loud or Tammiâs gonna get pissed.âÂ
âWe wonât be. Maybe knock next time.â Ian says, shutting the door behind her.Â
Shaking himself off, Mickey grabs the smokes he abandoned on Ianâs bedside table. He sticks one between his lips and sinks onto the bed, lighting it. The window is ajar from where Mickey climbed through it an hour before.Â
âHey.â Ian says, quiet.Â
âHey.â Mickey grunts back, wondering why Ian looks so awkward.Â
âYou okay?â
âFine.âÂ
âDonât push me away again, come on. Itâs not my fault Debbie came in.â
âIâm not doing shit. Nothing else for us to talk about.âÂ
âSo you believe me now? Youâre not gonna run off in the middle of the night?âÂ
âNo.â Mickey mutters.Â
âGood.â Ian sighs, sitting down beside him. âDebbie really loves you, yâknow. She was the happiest when I said we were back together. I didnât realise she liked you. I guess I never talked about you much with my family. Always figured they wouldnât get it, wouldnât see what I saw. They donât really know you, except for Debbie, I guess. I shouldâve told them, though, âcause youâre my favourite person and you have been for years.â Ian says. âIâll prove Iâm staying, I promise. Iâm not losing you again.âÂ
I don't know. I wrote this because I thought it was weird that the show didn't acknowledge that Mickey would have trust issues, but then I thought it was kind of OOC and also was more Mickey being comforted, so I never continued.
And that's it! I also wrote half an a/b/o fic which is pretty long and ramble-y, so if people want to see that let me know, because I'll probably never post it properly. If you like these, let me know and I can put them on my moments fic on ao3 so they're easier to find.
Hope you guys enjoyed! Thank you again for everyone's support in this fandom, I'm planning on sticking around for a while even if I'm not always active <3
