Finnley was falling asleep but she was also trying to keep her paw in the air, please watch 🤣

I absolutely adore Finnie, I think she's perfect and little me would have been over the moon had she been around when I was small. She's a unicorn (our national animal, of course) but her horn is a traffic cone! Come on!! You can't get much better than that. So much thought and care has gone into her design.

Her name 'Finnie' is derived from the Finnieston Crane (a Glasgow landmark)

The silver soles of her shoes are a nod to the Clyde's shipbuilding history (and could maybe also be a reference to horseshoes)

Her earring is the ring from the Glasgow Coat of Arms

Her stars are from the Barrowland Ballroom and it's iconic sign (and look super cute)

The colours of her mane and tail are taken from the lighting of the Hydro, where the opening ceremony took place (making for a delightfully bisexual colour palette)

Finnie was designed with the help of local school children and the friendship bracelet she wears on one of her wrists was made by them :) I like how she looks sporty and equally appealing to all kids!

(I also really like the mascot costume, I've been enjoying seeing videos of her out and about!)

The second I saw her I thought "Oh thank god, they clearly got some furries on the design team" haha, because historically we aren't the best mascot designers (the London 2012 ones were cool but, um. Interesting). The illustration style they've used for her is so cute, they have ones of her participating in all of this years events.

She's here for fun, to cheer on and uplift everybody no matter how small and support the games, athletes and spectators as much as she can. Gaaah! Love her! Stan Finnie!!

Just Finn, who's tall, strong and looks a little scary, a little too serious, bending down to fix her heel. Who keeps his eyes on her in public, to make sure nothing happens. Who tries clumsily to match the changed world, but fighting his taught chivalry and believing that wooing a woman has to be deeply romantic. Who remembers what drinks she likes and what things make her cringe and that she genuinely enjoys magic so he gives her his mother's grimoir, something deeply personal to him as a mama's boy. Who doesn't make a fuss about remembering her favorite perfume or her coffee order. Who absolutely can't dance but lets Bonnie lead him to the dance floor because she loves to dance.
