A/N: So these chapters are gonna be a bit shorter because I’m trying to start working on another story... Chapter 10.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
The cool wind comes off the Pacific, making the uncharacteristically cool July evening even more so. Kensi leans back further into her husband’s chest taking in the magical hour of the Los Angeles sunset. The cotton candy colored sky paired with the sound of the ocean waves is something that she’ll never get tired of.
“This will never get old.” Marty whispers in her ear causing a different kind of shiver to run through her body.
“Never.”
Marty’s eyes look over at the make shift fort on the blanket that they made to protect their boy from the wind. Finn’s little arms and legs start to move as he stretches and lets out a big yawn, making his daddy catch his breath for a moment. This will definitely never get old. His girl cuddled up next to him and his boy sleeping blissfully at the beach. Can’t get much better than this until the next string of words leave his wife’s lips.
“We should have another.”
“You’re serious?”
She tilts her head back, her chocolate orbs locking onto his. “What, you don’t want to?”
“Want to? Of course I want to I just didn’t think you’d want to have another one so close after just having Finn.”
“I didn’t before but I got to thinking that it’d be good for them to be closer in age.”
He can’t wipe the smile from his face as he brings his lips to hers. “Do you wanna start now or-“
“Not in front of the baby.” She shakes her head, not even sure why she’s surprised by her husband’s question.
“Oh, so if he weren’t close by then definitely?” The lawyer quirks his brow as his hands slowly start to move down her stomach and closer towards her heat.
She quickly swats them away in their pursuit before she loses control. The echos of their friends nearby making the redness rise to her cheeks. “Marty, there’s other people around.”
“Yeah, but say they weren’t.”
“Fine. Maybe.”
“Awesome. Totally and completely awesome.” He places another kiss to her lips, the image of them doing things to each other on this beach forever ingrained inside his head.
“Oh, my god.”
He didn’t realize he was already hard enough for her to feel him against her back. “Sorry, I just started picturing it and-“
“No, look.”
Marty’s wide eyes mirror his wife’s as they watch James get down on one knee in front of Talia a few hundred feet away from them. “Is he-”
“That’s what it looks like.” She’s a little bit surprised. Mostly because they had been dating for less than a year, but if you know, you know.
“I call dibs on flower boy.” The blonde blurts out.
A soft smile spreads to the agent’s lips. She has everything she’s ever wanted with her husband and son. Now it’s her partner’s turn to experience the adventure outside of work and she couldn’t be happier.
A/N: Here it is, the last chapter. Thank you for sticking with me. Hope you like it and also, I love Mama B as much as the next person but this is just where my head went with the story.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
July 2014
She’s balancing between two armrests with Finn in one arm and Koa in the other. They’re screaming in terror and she’s doing everything she can to protect her babies but she’s not sure she has the strength to stay in this position forever.
Looking up, she sees him walk into the room, brow furrowed at what’s going on. “Um, baby, whatcha doing?”
She looks down, chocolate orbs locking two sets of hazel eyes. They together turn towards the blonde with wide eyes. “The floor is lava!”
Koa stretches out her little hands towards the blonde lawyer. “Daddy, hurry, before the lava monster gets you!”
Marty’s eyes go wide as his little girl screams for his safety, but it’s too late. “Ahhhh, help!” Slowly he starts ‘falling’ down as if he’s being engulfed by the lava. “Kensi, I love youuuu…..”
She laughs as her husband’s last words hit her ears. “Marty! Baby!”
Slowly he rises back up, roaring as if he’s now the lava monster come to life.
Sitting the kids down on the couch, Kensi stands in front of them to protect them from who was once her husband. “Finn, Koa, I love you both so much, always remember that.” Placing a kiss to the top of each of their heads, she turns back around, takes a deep breath and lunges for the ‘lava monster.’
Marty falls to the ground with a loud thud, before he knows it, her lips are on his. “Come back to me, baby.”
His eyes flutter as her lips continue their attack. Boy if he was in an actual altered state this would do the trick to bring him out. “I should turn into a lava monster more often.”
A blush rises to her cheeks along with a shy smile. She stands up, reaching her hand out to help him up.
When the couple stands, their ears are met with the high pitched squeals that wake them up every morning more often than not. “Mommy, you did it! You saved daddy!”
Marty wraps his arm around her waist, placing a kiss to her temple. “As always.”
Just then, they’re interrupted by the ringing of the house phone.
“I’ll get it.” She places another kiss to his lips before walking towards the kitchen, smiling as she hears the distinct yelps of the kids as they jump on their daddy.
Picking up the phone, she greets the person on the other end of the line. “Hello?”
As she walks back into the living room, her eyes find his cerulean blues. “Yes, he does. May I ask who’s calling?”
He watches as her features immediately shift to that of shock. “Who is it?”
“Roberta. She’s getting out of rehab and needs a place to stay.”
He takes the phone from her, confused and socked all the same time. “Yes, this is Martin Deeks.”
She sits and watches as the crease in between his brows get narrower and narrower. “Can’t she find someone else?” He runs his fingers through his golden locks as the person says something. “Okay, fine, I’ll be there tomorrow.”
Sensing that they’re gonna need to be alone for this talk, Kensi turns towards Finn and Koa who are now playing a game of tag. “Hey, guys, why don’t you take Monty out back and play with him.”
“Yeah!” They both yell as they run toward the back of the house, furry companion in tow.
Once the door shuts, the brunette takes a seat next to her husband on the couch, his face buried in his hands. She rubs her hand up and down his back, trying to comfort him. “Hey, are you okay?”
“Yeah, I think so.” He turns his head, unable to hide the tears in his eyes.
“Oh, baby.” The sadness in his eyes breaks her heart, she leans back into the cushion, pulling him with her.
His head finds her chest, his arm finding its place around her stomach as he tries to dampen down the anxiety that is slowly making its way back to him after so long. “I just-all this time and now she wants to see me only because she needs something.”
“What do you want to do?”
“I want to just leave her there to rot. I want to walk up to her and ask her why, why did she leave and never look back. Why did she turn her back on me when all I was trying to do was protect her?”
“So ask her.”
He pulls back, weariness in his soulful blue eyes.
“Baby, this is your chance to finally get the closure you need.”
Releasing a sigh, he nods his head. “You’re right.”
A serious look crosses her face as she intertwines their fingers, her thumb rubbing back and forth across his. “And no matter what happens, I’ll be right beside you, I’ll even kick her ass if I have to.”
“You’d do that for me?”
She presses her lips to his with a smile, an openness in her eyes that only he gets to see. “I’d do anything for you.”
“I love you.”
“I love you."
XXXX
She threads her fingers through his as they make their way towards the entrance of the Rehabilitation Center, hoping to give him the strength he needs to get through this.
Surprisingly enough the woman is already outside, sitting on the bench, cigarette in hand. “Martin?”
“Hey.” He flashes the blonde a barely there smile.
“It’s been so long.”
“I’ll say.” He feels the reassuring squeeze of his wife’s hand, a calm washing over him. “Roberta, this is my wife Kensi.”
Not sure whether she should offer her hand to the older woman or not the agent decides on a smile instead. “Hi, it’s nice to meet you.”
“Damn, Martin, she’s way out of your league.” The older woman huffs a laugh as she flicks the cigarette butt onto the pavement and extinguishes it with the heel of her shoe.
He shares a look with his wife, knowing this was too good to be true. “Listen, before we go any further I need to say something.”
Roberta lets out a heavy sigh, shaking her head. “I knew this was coming. Look can’t we just forget about it and move on.”
At her words, Kensi can’t help but step in. Her husband is the greatest person she’s ever known, his heart is so full of love and compassion. He does’t deserve this. “Move on, are you serious right now?”
“Listen, honey, this does’t concern you.”
“Honey?” She begins to step forward only to be stopped by Marty’s grip.
“Baby, I got it.” He looks from the woman that healed his heart to the woman that broke it. “First of all, don’t you dare speak to my wife like that ever again.” Letting out a laugh when something finally becomes clear to him. “You know, I thought maybe we’d come here, have a nice talk and could rebuild our relationship, but you’re not worth it. I’ve made something of myself. I have a beautiful family, a great job where I get to help make this world a better place and it’s all in spite of you. So goodbye, Roberta, I hope you can find yourself a life.”
He turns around, pulling Kensi along with him. Though it may not have been the closure he had been expecting, he feels the little boy that was abandoned finally set free.
XXXX
The waves crash against the shore bringing the cool ocean breeze along with it and his wife curling further into his body as they watch the sun dip towards the horizon. He places a kiss to the top of her head, getting a wiff of the lavender from her shampoo. “I needed this today.”
Tilting her head back, her eyes meet his, a smile crossing her face as his lips descend upon hers. “13 years is a long time, you sure you’re not getting tired of me?”
“Never enough time with you.”
Their eyes stay locked, both dancing with so many emotions. “Tell me what you’re feeling.”
“You know back in college I used to dream about her finding me one day. She would just show up out of the blue, tell me that she was sorry for leaving and how proud she was of me…maybe she’d show up to graduation or at my doorstep one day. But she never came and I felt so alone…so useless, until one night everything was suddenly different.”
“What changed?”
He looks out towards the Pacific thinking about the first time they were here. A smile spreads to his face before he turns back to her, his palm finding her cheek as his thumb moves back and forth across her olive toned skin. “I went to a party with some buddies of mine, locked eyes with the most beautiful woman I’ve ever met and in that moment I knew I had a purpose, that I mattered to someone.”
She tilts her head at his words. “You know maybe we should’ve brought some wine with all this cheese you’re serving.”
The playful spark in her eyes is one of things he loves most about her. His lips find hers in a passionate kiss, sending the pair into an emotional frenzy.
A few minutes later air becomes scarce forcing them to pull back. Their eyes dance with fire, knowing it’s only a preview of what’s to come later tonight. Placing one more kiss to his lips, Kensi then rests her head back against his chest as the sun continues to turn the sky different shades. “Marty?”
“Yeah, baby?”
“We love you…Finn, Koa and I will always love you. You’re what makes our world go round and nothing’s gonna change that.”
The emotion in her words hits him full force. “You have no idea how much I needed to hear that right now.” His lips find her head once again, finding solstice in her embrace. “I love you.”
A/N: Last Chapter before the Epilogue. Thanks for sticking with me on this long ride.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
She had woken up this morning with a little bit of pain but brushed it off. Marty had planned this wonderful babymoon for them and she wasn’t gonna let Braxton Hicks get in the way of that.
They had had a wonderful brunch at the most amazing restaurant. The weather was so perfect that they decided to take a walk along the waterfront park. Now here they sit, on a bench over looking out across the Vancouver Harbor with the North Shore Mountains off into the distance.
She leans further into his embrace, taking in the beautiful scenery and fresh air when….
At the wet sensation he hears splash on the ground, the blonde pulls back slightly, his arm still wrapped around her shoulders. “Oh, baby, I think your water’s spilt.”
“That’s one way of putting it.”
His brow furrows, but when his eyes travel down to her hand that’s pressed against her stomach and notices that her bottle is sitting on the ground, unmoved, his eyes go wide in realization. “Ohhhh, shit.”
“Why are we always in a public place when this happens?” She asks when tears start to take over her eyes. “Marty, I’m only 35 weeks.”
“Hey, hey, don’t cry.” He places a kiss to her forehead. “35 weeks is still plenty far enough in the pregnancy. She’s gonna be okay.”
And just like that, his words bring a calm over her. “You’re right, she’s gonna be okay.”
“Now let’s go have this little girl so we can talk to her about how Blye women are suppose to be notoriously late.”
“Hey that was one time and-“
He playfully rolls his eyes, and places his hand against her back, supporting her, as they walk back towards the hospital that is luckily right across the street from the restaurant they were at an hour ago. “And you thought you saw Joey McIntyre, yeah, yeah.”
A few hours and new born baby later…
The nurses had so kindly set up a computer and webcam for them. Never did the thought of having their baby in another country cross their minds, but she’s here now. A little on the small side, but healthy and that’s all that matters. As the dial up tone rings, it finally connects. Three familiar faces popping up on the screen.
At the sight of his parents, the one and a half year old lets out a high pitched scream, making both his grandparent eyes go wide. “Dada! Mama!”
“Hey, buddy.”
“Hi, baby.” The second time mom feels the tears well in in her eyes, seeing his tiny little face on screen.
Seeing her daughter’s emotional state, Julia does her best to distract her girl, even though they’re thousands of miles apart. “Finn, what’s mama got?”
“Baby.”
“Oh, guys, she’s beautiful.” Don looks at his little girl holding her little girl in amazement.
The brunette sends her dad a smile before looking back down at one of her three loves. She’s so perfect and beautiful and…here come the emotions.
Sensing her sudden change in emotion, Marty places a kiss to his wife’s temple, his hand running up and down her arm in a soothing motion. He knows the hormones are going to be off the charts and that paired with Finn being far away isn’t helping any.
“So…you gonna finally tell us her name?”
A playful spark sets in the agent’s eyes, having half a mind to keep the name from her parents until the get back to LA. “I dunno. What do you think, baby? Should we tell them?”
“Come on, we can’t be there, at the very least we deserve to know her name.” Julia pleads, as Finn continues to wave both hands at his parents.
“Fine.” She relents, resting her head against her husband’s shoulder, feeling a sudden wave of exhaustion was over her.
“Everyone meet Koa Madalyn Deeks.”
Don smiles, it’s an unusual name for sure, but seeing his baby girl so happy is something he’ll never tire of. “Well that’s certainly a unique name.”
Marty’s thumb finds his little girl’s cheek as she sleeps blissfully. “Yeah, a unique name for a unique little girl.”
Before anyone else can say anything the eldest Deeks child’s lower lip begins to quiver before his little lungs being to belt out gut wrenching cries.“Mama. Want mama.”
Knowing that his could get worse before it gets better Don sends the couple a sad smile as Julia gets up with her grandson, moving around in hopes to calm him down. “We better go.”
“Okay, we’ll be home in a few days.”
“Bye, baby.”
“Mamaaaaa.”
“Bye, buddy.” Marty stands up from the side of the bed, reaching for the mouse. “Bye, guys. We’ll get home as soon as we can.”
Don can see the pain in the lawyer’s eyes. He knows what the young man is going through and will do anything to ease the pressure off the man who’s like a son to him. “Don’t worry. You just take care of your girls and we’ll take care of your boy.”
“Thanks, dad.”
“We love you all.”
“We love you too.” With one last wave goodbye, Marty click the end call button before turning back to his wife. His heart immediately breaks as he watches the tears run down her cheeks.
“We shouldn’t have left him.”
“Baby, he’s fine. Your mom and dad are taking good care of him.”
Handing off Koa to her daddy as she rearranges, Kensi scoots back against her pillow and relaxes back into the mattress before taking the new born back into her arms. “I know. I just really miss him.”
“So do I, but we can’t do anything about that right now other than wait.”
She knows he’s right. They’ll be back at home with both their kids before they know it, but right now she can’t do anything about it so she might as well relax and enjoy the time she does have with two of her loves. “Will you do something for me?”
“Anything.”
“Come cuddle with us?”
As her trademark chocolate puppy eyes cross her features, he can’t help but fall even more hopelessly in love with her. “I thought you’d never ask.” Smiling, he crawls up next to her and once situated, she hands off their girl to her daddy again.
His arm wraps around her shoulders as she curls further into his side. She hums in delight as his lips find the top of her head and then Koa’s. “I love you, Marty. I love you so much.”
Marty leans his head against his love’s, a contented sigh releasing from his lips. Never in his wildest dreams did he think his life would be this wonderful. “I love you too, baby. Even more so now than ever before.” His eyes follow down to his daughter’s tiny fingers that are wrapped around Kensi’s slender one. “Thank you for giving me the most beautiful life.”
As sleep begins to take her under she lets out a contented sigh of her own. “Better than I could’ve ever dreamed.”
She’s lost in the warmth of the log cabin, the voices of the ones she loves most filling the room as Marty, James and Matt prepare dinner.
The brunette’s drawn out of her day dream though when she sees her baby boy empty the remanence of his dinner on Talia’s chest.
“Oh, gross.” Trying everything in her not to gag, Talia hands Finn over to his daddy and retreats to the bathroom to clean herself up. Leaving the rest of the adults to enjoy her freakout.
Kensi stands up from the kitchen island stool, making her way over to her boys. Her heart melting was she watches Marty wipe off Finn’s mouth and pepper his face with kisses. “There you go, buddy. You are one handsome devil, you know that?”
The smile that lights his tiny face is one that is frequently displayed. She can feel the tears pool in her eyes, Marty immediately notices, his eyes asking her if she’s okay.
She flashes him a reassuring smile. “Here, let me take him.”
“Uh-huh, I know you, Kens. You just want your eye candy back in the kitchen.”
“Guilty.”
Sending her a wink, he places a kiss to Finn’s cheek and hands him off to his mama before bringing his lips to hers for a chaste kiss.
Just then, Talia walks back into the open kitchen to see the display of affection. “I need a drink. Kens?”
“Oh, none for me thanks.”
“You sure?”
“Yeah.” She nods, her eyes slip from Finn for a brief moment to look at her partner before they just as quickly turn back to him.
Talia shrugs, not letting her partner’s dry night effect her by any means. “Man, what about you?”
The blonde looks to her husband and then back Talia, shaking her head. “Oh, no, I’m good.”
The clueless agent looks between the four adults as they all share what seems like a secret look. “Okay, what’s going on with you two?”
Kensi looks to her husband, asking him if he wants to do this now. He just grins at her, hell if he had it his way every one would already know. “We uh…we have some news.”
Mandy looks to Kensi, trying to gage if what’s going on with her is the same thing that the brunette is going through. “So do we.”
“Wait-“
The blonde cuts off her friend before she gets the chance to ask. Asking her the same thing without asking her. “Are you?”
“I’m-“
The both nod, ready to say what they need to at the same time. “Pregnant.”
All six pair of eyes go wide stunned at the announcement. James being the first one to speak. “Woah, what?”
Kensi’s eyes stay locked with Mandy’s with another question forming in her head. “When are you due?”
“July 20th.” They say at the same time.
Marty can’t help but laugh. “Holy shit.”
After hugs and congratulations are exchanged, Talia starts to take a sip of her drink when she notices everyone looking at her. “Oh, no. Don’t look at me. I’m set on being the drunk aunt.”
A/N: Kensi’s first day back after having Finn. Chapter 9.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
She steps into the bullpen for the first time in 6 weeks. It was a difficult morning to say the least. Marty had been used to leaving for work, but today was the day she’d been dreading. Saying goodbye to her baby boy for the first time since he was born was one of the most difficult things she’s ever experienced.
The brunette thinks back to her husband having to pry her away from the house, assuring her that their boy was safe with her parents. She checks her phone just incase she missed an emergency call or message. The agent’s so distracted that she does’t feel her partner come up next to her as she places her things on her desk.
“He’s gonna be fine.” Talia whisper’s, knowing exactly what has her partner so distracted.
“You’re right.”
“Come meet the new guys.”
Kensi follows Talia over to the kitchenette where the two men reside. They’re having a casual conversation, at least that’s what she thinks. Talia had told her about their boss’ new hire and finally finding the pair to complete their field team last week. All she was told was that one of the guys was an ex-Navy SEAL and the other was once a spook. “Guys, this is my partner, Kensi.”
The man with a buzz cut extends his hand. “Hi, I’m Callen.”
“Hi, nice to meet you.’
“Like wise.”
His partner, the SEAL obviously, offers his hand next. “Sam.”
“Welcome aboard.”
The two brunettes get their own cups of coffee, making small talk. “Talia told us you had a brief stay in the hospital.” Sam states.
Kensi nods. Even though a lot of people including Talia are fine with people knowing they’re in relationships, the new mom and her husband decided it was still a good idea to keep their life private, especially with their baby now in the world. Of course Talia knew but other than her and their boss, Kensi was able to hide her bump before she had Finn. “Yeah, very brief. It was actually more relieving to heal at home than in some uncomfortable hospital bed.”
“I know that feeling.”
The SEAL huffs and laugh, shaking his head. “I think we all do.”
Just before anything else can be said, their boss makes herself known, shadowed by a pixie red head. “Ladies and Gentlemen…we have a case.”
XXXX
It had been a very long day. Longer than she remembers it ever being before, but finally at 7 o’clock she walks through the front door and immediately heads over to the bassinet perched on its living room stand. Her hands find his tiny waist, his tiny hazel eyes and a toothless smile light up his face, as she picks him up. “Oooh, there's my sweet boy.” Peppering his cheeks with kisses, the almost two month old coos. “Mama missed you. Yes, she did.”
“What am I chopped liver?”
She turns around and is met with the puppy eyes that so clearly belong to her husband. “I missed you too, baby.”
Marty flashes her a larger version of the smile across their boy’s face and throws the dish towel over his shoulder, as he meanders his way over her placing a kiss to her lips. “That’s what I thought.”
“Did mom say how he acted today?” She turns, as he walks back into the kitchen to check on dinner.
“Yeah, she said she found him chain smoking and sipping on some of your dad’s whiskey after his nap.” He looks over his shoulder, flashing her a cheeky grin.
“You’re daddy’s silly. Yes, he is.”
“How was your first day back?”
“Pretty good. I met my new teammates.”
“Oh?”
“Yeah, one of them was a Navy SEAL and the other was in the CIA.”
“Wow, so you guys are like the Avengers.”
She sends him a barely there smile. Sam and Callen are great from what she can tell its just..different. “Not, exactly.”
“What, you don’t like them?”
“They’re okay.” She shrugs and walks a few more feet into the open kitchen with Finn cradled in her arms, his little eyes staying glued to his daddy’s movements.
“Oh, I know what this is.”
“You know what what is?” Her brow furrows questioningly.
“You’re so used to it just being you and Talia and you don’t want that messing anything up.”
“Yeah, maybe.”
Shutting the oven door, he walks up to her, his arms finding their place around her waist. “There is one good thing though.”
The playful spark clear in his eyes, now mirroring in hers. “What’s that?”
“We have to up our game in coming up with ways to make you look like the single party girl again.”
Her lips find his once again, and can’t help but feel eyes on them. She pulls back, Marty’s brow furrowed at her sudden retreat when they both look down a set of hazel eyes shining back at them as a laugh erupts from his tiny body. His first laugh. “Lucky us.”
