This is like making me choose a favorite child how dare you (affectionate). I ended up excluding HIWB so I could highlight some of the other, shorter nonsense I've gotten up to.

and it's warm and real and bright: An entirely (UKsies) canon-compliant Newsies retelling, except it's from Crutchie and Albert's POVs and is a heck of a lot gayer. Featuring my first attempt at deliberately using a recurring motif/metaphor! >:)

There's no stopping this disaster: Otherwise known as: various Conclave characters discover what people are saying about the new pope on social media (and in person, in the case of middle aged moms with no filter!). Some of them (Thomas) don't take it well. Probably not my best Conclave fic, strictly speaking, but I'm proud of the thirst tweets and balcony scene rewrite.

I want my own dream (so bad I'm gonna scream): Canon-era Katherine adopts a male persona to get a job as a reporter. This ultimately leads to a whole lot of bisexuality and also a gender crisis. It was very fun to write Katherine having a girlfriend and going to a gay bar in 1899.

In the morning, I'm bulletproof: I went with this one over It turns my head inside out because it didn't get as much attention when I wrote it - it's about Jack and Race meeting in high school and having a short, ultimately doomed relationship, but it's also about 2011 and homophobia and the fear of coming out and also the fear of staying in the closet. It's inherently niche, but try it! You might like it! (the general you; I know you, Finn, have already read it and appreciated the sheer volume of Axe body spray in it)

I am not sure that this WIP is uh. good or coherent. but I went to look at my WIPs and this was the funniest option so you get some Sister Agnes

“Cardinal Lawrence,” Agnes says. “I didn’t expect to see you here.” “I think I’m in love,” Thomas whispers. “With–with Vincen–with Innocent.” Somewhat nonsensically, the declaration reminds Agnes of a very different conversation, one that took place over forty years ago. She doesn’t know what she could possibly say to comfort him, so she launches into more practical matters instead. “Does the Holy Father like men?” she asks, and Cardinal Lawrence looks at her in disbelief.

When the songs ended, Spot immediately said, “Tinkerbell is so full of shit.” Smalls looked at her disbelievingly, so she continued, “She’s a fairy, and she’s all…sparkly and shit, but she’s just as much of an asshole as Peter.”

3. Describe the creative process of writing a chapter/fic

Well I feel like I usually start by running ideas/thoughts by my friends who are as unhinged as I am (affectionate) (by this I mean you and @regina-cordium), because y'all tend to have good insights and similar visions for the characters I'm writing. I also like to inflict passages on people as I'm writing.

As for actually writing, it depends on whether it's a one-shot or a multichapter thing - for multichapter stuff, I have to have at least a general outline of what I have planned for the chapter (and also find it helpful to have a table broken down by chapter and plotline/key events to draw from), and sometimes as I write I will make a more detailed list of what scenes are coming next and what perspectives they're going to be from, particularly if I'm dealing with writer's block at all. For a one-shot, I'll get the idea and probably take at least some notes about the idea, but with those I'm more likely to be able to just write and not do as much planning beyond those initial notes.

7. How do you choose which POV to write from?

Sometimes it's just a matter of logistics (a character can't narrate a scene if they're not there; if it's a character study it kinda needs to be from that character's perspective), but usually it's what I think would be most interesting or impactful in that scene. I also love any opportunity for dramatic irony, so if my choice of POV can lead to a character being confused while the audience knows exactly what's happening I will usually go for that.

18. Do you title your fics before, during, or after the writing process? How do you come up with titles?

Depends on the fic - sometimes the idea comes to me via a fic title, sometimes I have an idea and then finding a good title is what causes me to start writing, sometimes it shows up partway through, and sometimes I reach the end and go oh god oh no I didn't come up with a title for this.

Related to that, I've had multiple fic ideas come to me at least partially via a title idea and then had those concepts grow beyond their titles - my one 911 fic and my Conclave-as-told-by-Vincent fic both started with different titles.
