OK, y'know, what the fuck is wrong with people? Lemme tell you something—I did indeed contribute to the crowdfunding efforts of OFMD. I have some disposable income right now, so I did that, because this show is important to me and it's important to a lot of other people. Will anything come of that? Dunno, but it's obvious that fan passion is making just the possibility of a third season more possible.
I also regularly contribute to Planned Parenthood, every month, and have since 2016. AND, because of the efforts of this fandom, I've found something else—places to support Palestine and the people who are being hurt and displaced there. I've struggled with finding those charities because there are so many that are not trustworthy, don't do the work, etc., and there was a narrative going around that no help was getting through anyway. But because of resources being posted as a part of the OFMD fandom, I was able to do further research and find places where I know the money I can contribute will actually help people.
So, yeah, we can care about the future of the gay pirate show and we can care about access to abortion and healthcare and we can care about Palestine and we can also care about a whole bunch of other shit going on in the world. Caring about one thing can also lead to caring about a whole bunch of other things.
