Why would punching Tommy in the face be good for Billy?
this is my third time writing this out because tumblr has decided it fucking hates me and I am gonna be so completely totally fucking honest if it doesn’t work this time I might just give the fuck up on trying to tell yall because this is getting ludicrous god fucking bless.
Anyway. My reasoning as to why the twins get into a fistfight in my YA reboot. Obviously there are like. A million reasons Tommy punching Billy would do him some good (hello canonical gap of time where Billy refused to interact with his brother’s existence) but I actually think it would do Billy some good too. Because— okay well partially because he thinks he deserves it, and because this is a physical way he can pay back the ways he has hurt Tommy (hello Billy canonically being glad Tommy is there to watch him die) a sort of way for him to wipe the slate clean, at least in his mind yk. But also because him getting in a physical fight with his brother completely breaks down the image that he has spent so long creating and clinging to and trapping himself in, both for himself and the audience. It’s a breakdown of this idea of him being a good person, a kind person, a good hero. It knocks him off of this pedestal he has put himself on. It breaks the illusion that he is this godlike hero who is good at his core and instead just leaves the things he has always been too terrified to look at. His selfishness. His anger. The idea that he is a bad brother, that he is a bad person. It gives him the space to escape the idea of perfection and finally acknowledge the ways he actually exists. Idk I think having his brother’s blood on his knuckles would feel very freeing to him, in that regard. Yeah.
