Swans Overcome Hard At It Saints
A faint final’s pulse still beats within the breast of a bloodied Swan. Down at Marvel Stadium a fierce battle saw Swans overcome hard at it Saints. The Ross Lyon coached St Kilda were impressive in their play for most of the day. Sydney were fortunate to get away with the crucial four points. This kind of game, demanding of contests and full of elite physical pressure, is just what the doctor ordered for the Swans, if they are to progress. Sydney has beaten few genuine contenders in AFL season 2025.
Sydney Swans Survive Gritty St Kilda Saints at Marvel
Brody Grundy continues to take all before him and is now rated the best player in the AFL over the last 6 weeks. A clutch moment in the final quarter saw a great Brody tap to Errol Gulden and a resultant goal when really needed. Gulden was good all day without being great. James Rowbottom was back to some of his best. Will Hayward was huge in the last term and his goals helped get the Swans over the line. Angus Sheldrick was one of the better Swans midfielders in this contest. The Sydney team lifted in the final quarter and brought home the points. This is despite the Saints outplaying many of their opponents for the majority of the match.
The Swans Get The Job Done Against Impressive Saints Jack Buller kicked a couple of impressive set shot goals early on, which gave great hope for the future for Swan’s fans. Jake Lloyd kicked 3 goals and was reliable in front of the sticks when it mattered. Justin McInerney, by contrast, continues to let supporters down in front of goals and in the contest. Personally, I had hoped for a big year from McInerney and his poor form, along with that of Oliver Florent, has been a letdown. You cannot afford to carry passengers on this red and white bus, with every game being life or death now. Hayden McLean was better again with much more intensity shown in his play. Isaac Heeney was all class and, although well held by St Kilda, was a factor in the Sydney’s success, as was Chad Warner. Callum Mills continues to improve but a lack of a proper pre-season hampers his performance at key moments still. St Kilda Future Looks Rosy Wanganeen-Milera was impressive for the Saints, as was Max Hall, Wilkie in defence and Windhager. Owens was a force in the aerial contests. The toughness of the Saints was evident throughout. The future looks bright for St Kilda on this basis with so many hard at it talented youth on their list. Hard wins galvanise footy sides and the Sydney Swans got that at Marvel against a tough Sanits outfit. “The dangers of tribalism can take immature or mentally unwell folk into dark spaces. Making death threats toward an opposition coach is an example of this. Football is a game, not anything more, when you get a grip on things. Our tribal affiliations with a club are about having fun and not about spiteful shit directed at anyone else.” - (https://www.golfdom.com.au/the-dangers-of-tribalism/) Robert Sudha Hamilton is the author of The Stoic Golfer, Money Matters and America Matters: Pre-apocalyptic Posts & Essays in the Shadow of Trump. ©GolfDom
