An all-rounder, he climbed the most sensational mountains, but also wrote more than 40 books, was a tool inventor, mountain rescue service organiser, filmmaker, photographer, and dog lover.

Bright, inquisitive and with a can-do nature, by age 16 he was building cars from scratch, but who can predict the future? 

As a youngster, he joined a social climbing club in the West of Scotland and was quickly bitten by the bug, which would take him up the largest mountains in the Himalayas. His stories were very much in demand by his peers as well as celebrities such as Palin and Sean Connery. 

Ageing is one of the central themes of this film and MacInnes was severely tested not too long ago. His active mind and his past work would be called upon to pull him through. It was very inspiring to watch him rehabilitate.
