Entry 1: Waltzes and Wizards
All day, I’ve heard it playing in the back of my head. The Howl’s Moving Castle theme. I saw it for the first time last night, two weeks after my friend had thrust the case excitedly into my hands and said, “You have to watch this.” I found it to be oddly beautiful, excusing a few bumps in the English dub’s voice acting. What was the book like, I wonder?
Aside from that, I am nearing the end of A Wizard of Earthsea. I like it immensely, and I can scarcely wait to read The Tombs of Atuan, a book that, at present, is not available from the local library. Fortunately, I have a number of other books to keep me company while I wait for the rest of Earthsea. I’m finally getting around to reading A Wrinkle in Time, which I am sure will be much better than the made-for-television film adaptation I’d watched when I was younger. I’d quite forgotten what a pleasure reading can be.
Edit: I have finished A Wizard of Earthsea, and I cannot think of anything to say. I remember the words swirling around me like so much seawater (Le Guin’s prose has a peculiar way of doing that), and I remember the feeling of not wanting to draw myself away from the book, to lose myself in it. It has been too long since I felt like that. I missed it.
