Y’all wanna see some more figureheads?
Composition with Figureheads (1971) by Spyros Vassiliou (1902-1985)
Pirate AU. ever time one of Eda's ships goes down she's says something like "damn that sucks. hopefully hooty went down with it" and every single time hooty manages to escape and end up on her new boat. Cursed figureheads are surprisingly persistent, the curse on him doesn't even have anything to do with Eda
there was a curse or something that whoever inherited/became captain of the ship Hooty was on would be forever cursed to have him as their ship until they die or just ditch the ship somewhere and never sail again. Eda’s stuck with the bastard now but still goes “damn, hope Hooty went down with that ship” every time as an inside joke. she’s praying that once Luz is older she can gift the ship to her and finally be free of him. she hasn’t ‘gifted’ Hooty to anyone else because everyone knows by now to never accept gifts from Eda, + Hooty is a loudmouth and spews every time about how they’d be stuck with him Forever
Two notebooks used by Kelsick Wood a provincial Ship builder from Maryport from c1835 onwards detailing many aspects of his work. Included are quotes for work undertaken for a variety of different vessels, costs of materials including teak and oak as well as accounts. Thet contains a variety of small sketches/ illustrations on more than 140 pages - these range from character studies to coats of arms portraits and several figurehead designs. A unique previously unrecorded item..

Figureheads are magnificent things. Stroll along the ranks of huge, colourfully painted ones in the naval museums at Greenwich or Portsmouth, and you cannot hel...
And other nautical traditions
Altona Museum, Hamburg, Germany – Figurehead Hall, by Ulrike Pfeiffer
After a shipwreck, often only the figurehead remained intact or was washed ashore, embodying the soul of the ship and the focus of the crew's beliefs and superstitions. Many of the figures on display in the museum have been to sea and were recovered after the ship sank.
These figures are all from the 17th to 19th centuries and were carefully restored after being acquired.
