On the bus the other day, i called myself a piece of garbage.
Just in normal conversation, nothing unusual.
One of my closest friends heard.
"No. If you say that again I'll throw this at you." Or something like that.
People have told me nice things about me. Tried to make me see my own worth. And I'm grateful for that.
But it was when someone took an offhand comment seriously. When my friend defended me from myself that hit me hardest.
Telling me I'm not garbage is nice. But not being allowed to call myself garbage... It's this realization that someone would fight for me rather than support me that makes me feel valued. I was told angrily, in no uncertain terms that I was wrong.
It's great to have friends who will be kind. But then there's friends who fight for you. Even if you're fighting yourself.
And if she'll fight for me, maybe I shouldn't give up fighting for myself.
So to anyone who reads this, don't give up.
Because I'd fight for you.
