I must admit I laughed harder then I should’ve at this quote. As parents we know toddler behaviour does not always make a whole lot of sense. As an adult our brain acts out of logic and reasoning. Toddler brains act out of emotion and zero–absolutely zero–logic. It can be challenging but also hilarious. A hilarious conversation I just had with my 4 year old about cleaning his room “ Please clean up the mess in your room before we head out!” His response “ But I cleaned it last week, my arms are tired, I’m only little, and you like cleaning, I don’t even like cleaning because I’m a boy and boys like doing stuff but not cleaning......... “The woman who can’t make time for herself will never be truly happy. We will love her children. We will love you. We will smile and be present and do everything in our power to make the world a better place for everyone else. But we will never truly be happy. And that’s because we aren’t entirely happy with ourselves. When do we get a break! That time we snapped at the kids and you thought nothing of it. It stays with us. The time we missed that gym class because of everyone else. It wasn’t about the exercise. It was about our recharging for the week. The time we quickly ducked to the shops to get something... not every time, but on occasion we would have loved to stop and get our nails done; but feel guilty because we don’t want to leave you to deal with a sick or an overtired kid on your own. So we rush straight back even though you didn’t need it. It’s important to remember to give us time. We won’t always give it to ourselves. We won’t always recognise that we need it. We won’t even always have a plan for the time. But we will appreciate it. We won’t need much. We won’t waste it. And we will certainly come back feeling a million times better about ourselves. So when we need to duck out. Tell us not to rush back. When we have a coffee date or gym class. Be home and remind us to leave with time to spare so we aren’t rushed. When we comment on our regrowth; remind us to book in our next appointment. And in that moment we have been away for a while and you know we have been thinking about the family again... send us a text reminding us not to rush back and to go and take more time. Do that... you won’t need to do much more. But do that and we will not only love you more in that moment. But we will love ourselves more. And that’s all you could ever want. Don’t let time get in the way of us loving ourselves. Earlier this month I made the decision to start a blog, create a website and open up my Instagram to “the real world”. I have always shared so much of our life online anyway, but have always felt scared allowing it to reach people past friends & family. To be honest, I have always thought about becoming a mummy blogger, but I didnt know how to bring it to life. I knew my focus would be bigger than just focusing on my kids. I also felt this strong desire to talk about mental health, my struggles and how other mums/dads & caregivers experience their own challenges. Where it be with FIFO Life, Metal Health issues or the unrealistic expectations of raising kids without a village. I was so motivated to create a brand & obviously with it, a website. I remember sitting there most nights & Googling “how to create a website” . As google does, it brings up hundreds of articles on “how to build your website in 10 minutes” . It sounded so easy. Or maybe it really is that easy & I am more technically challenged then I would like to admit. I had finally decided on a name for my brand , after many nights of uncertainty. I then followed the other 4 simple steps, and ended up signing up my domain, picking a hosting company & then realising SHIT I have no idea how Wordpress works. 😂😂😂 Next it was picking a theme, installing plugin’s, editing widgets (fuck me you have lost me mate!), I would cry in frustration because it all sounded so bloody simple on Dr Google but I kept hitting a wall. However I am happy to report that I am slowly making progress, I am smarter than I originally thought , my website is starting to come together & I shouldn’t have had so much self doubt. So watch this space... I will update you all when it’s ready to go live. Life is just a little busy with little humans, fifo husband, settling into a new town & finding my feet. My advice to you: Marry someone who is interested in you, I don’t mean someone who thinks you are cute or funny. I mean someone who wants to know every significant detail about you. Someone who wants to read every word you write, even if its just venting after a hard day. Someone who wants to hear you sing your favourite song, even if you are completely tone death. Someone who wants to explore every part of your body, even if with time they realise it carries scars from the past. Someone who wants to know your favourite movie, secretly hate it but watch it a million times anyway. Someone who knows all your favourite quotes and has the knowledge of why they resonate so deeply within you. There is a difference between attraction and interest. I am so grateful I have found the person who has learnt every aspect of who I am. We don’t get to hang, just us. The reality of raising kids, life far away from any family support. So that’s why today was so wonderful.
