''DAVID! I could be doing anything in the world right now! I could be going shopping with my friends or swimming in the pool, but NO! You decided to be obsessed with football and drag me to Mexico City.'' You dragged your feet through the streets of the well-known town, located in Mexico City, heavily side-eyeing your brother.
It was no doubt that you weren't a football girl. You never understood the hype about it. You understood that it was just a bunch of people kicking around a lousy ball until they scored and a final whistle was blown, easy as that.. but what was the surprise in it all? In short, you definitely weren't a fan.
And you definitely didn't understand the hype about watching sweaty and probably smelly football guys yell at referees out of anger. Sure, you thought some football players looked attractive but wearing their jersey and screaming at the top of your lungs to get their attention? Pass.
On the other hand, your brother David was probably the biggest fan of football you've ever known. He always knew the big news in the football world, the final scores of each match, and who's playing who. Unlike you, he had knowledge of strategies and football terms like ''yellow card'' or ''free kick''. It drove you crazy about how much he ''fangirled'' over the sport.
You just didn't get it.
''Oh c'mon sis! Lighten up, we're in fricking Mexico City for God's sake! This is way better than home! Just pretend you're... at the beach! Sipping a Pina Colada. VIRGIN. To be exact. I don't need to be dragging a drunk Y/N even though you're 22.'' David ruffled up your hair, smirking.
''You're acting like I'm drinking right now... You literally just said pretend.'' You mumbled, continuing to stroll around the place.
In fairness, you weren't going to lie. Mexico City was better than where you lived. Like David said, it was like being on vacation and the views were just... summer. You just wished you weren't here for a football game.
As you continued exploring with your brother, a crowd of people with bright green Mexico jerseys passed by you two, leaving your brother amazed.
Your eyes peered over to David who had his mouth wide open, looking like there were stars in his eyes just by seeing simple people. You smacked him on the arm. ''Dude! It's just people in Mexico jerseys.. PEOPLE, DAVID!''
David expressed, leaving you in a state of disbelief, ''Not just people, Y/N! The World Cup brings together different people from different places and they embrace it with just a shirt! How cool is that?! A shirt can just say a million things!''
''Dude, you have got to get a job..'' You mumbled to yourself, pinching the bridge of your nose together as you walked away from him to a store that caught your eye.
''HEY! WAIT UP MOM SAID I CAN'T LEAVE YOU WANDERING!''
-
Walking into the store, it immediately felt like your vibe and you fit in. No footballers, no footballs, no jerseys, and no girls freaking out about the daily matches.
''I should just stay here while you go watch the game, huh?'' You smiled, turning around to face David with a pair of sunglasses and a hat, whipping your hair around.
''Big no. First off, mom said I can't leave you anywhere by yourself. That's the whole point she said yes to this trip. I PROMISED my whole life to babysitting you the three weeks we're here. Second of all, I already spent half my wallet on two tickets and no way am I wasting one ticket just because my party-pooper little sister doesn't wanna tag along.'' David stated, stealing your hat off your head, putting it on his.
''You're only two years older than me, D.''
''Not the point.''
''I can watch myself. I'm over the age of 21.''
''Barely.''
''You're lucky I didn't sneak off to a bar.''
''I don't care! You're going to the game with me!''
''You're not gonna let this go, are you.?''
''Nope.''
You slumped, posture dropping as you put the sunglasses and the hat which was on David's head away.
''Now let's go less time complaining and mo- OH MY GOSH!'' David dragged you out the store, instantly dropping your wrist and moving his hands to the top of his head.
''What..?'' You raised an eyebrow, looking at the group of guys in front of you and David, ''It's just a group of boys. What, scared they know more about football than you?'' You chuckled, nudging his arm.
''Y/N. That's the starting lineup for England. Shut up. Shut up! Of course they know more football than I do!'' David faced you now, shaking you by the shoulders.
He released you and you looked up at your brother who looked starstruck.. literally.
''This cannot be happening.'' You shook your head, staring at the group who was hanging out and talking outside the store, some players taking photos with tourists.
The tall lightskin who had a familiar face you did see in Adidas ads and on social media was now looking in your direction, eyes switching from you and your brother.
''Y/N! Don't mess this up for me. HE'S LOOKING OVER HERE! THE JUDE BELLINGHAM IS LOOKING AT ME!'' David squealed which made you want to walk away.
''Hey mateee..s.'' Jude slowly walked away from his team and approached you and your brother, he was originally only focusing on David until he looked at you, which made him add an s to mate. He looked at you as if something special inside of him sparked. You two had made eye contact for a moment til David butted in.
''BELLINGHAM! Good luck at the game today, yeah lad?''
The sudden shout of his last name startled you and Jude's eyes were off you, now looking straight at your brother.
''Thanks bro, picture?''
But before David and Jude could pose together, you automatically interrupted their moment, scoffing. ''David, hello! Can we go now? I'm starved!'' You said, waving your hands around to get his attention.
Jude's eyes flickered back at you, suddenly getting his attention back on you which.. you somewhat liked.
''Oh, you didn't want a photo?''
''Does it seem like it?''
''I mean, your mate here's so eager for one, wouldn't you be wanting to pose with me as well?''
''Not my mate. Brother. Get it right, aye?''
You scoffed, staring Jude down, crossing your arms against your chest.
''Okay.. feisty. I like that, what's your name?'' Jude searched your eyes for clarification and meaning as if you were his.
''Y/N.. Justin is it?'' You smiled sarcastically, getting his name wrong on purpose. ''Look, I don't do footballers. So you can get your photo with my brother and go.''
Jude smiled slightly, stunning you for a moment. ''Whoa, whoa. Not a big football fan?''
''Let's look at the signs... shall we? I just got your name wrong.. which means I could care less about your worldwide title, I wanted my brother to get away from you which means I don't want to spend my time with a stuck-up football player in my time here in Mexico City... and I just said I don't do footballers. So, Beckham..'' You got his last name wrong this time on purpose before continuing, ''Does it seem like I'm a football fan?'' Your eyes narrowed.
''But you care enough to know about a former football player and mix me up with him? Smooth.'' Jude shook his head before looking back at David, ''Still want that picture, mate?''
Of course after the whole interaction with you and Jude, David was still dying for the photo. It took about a minute for you to take David's photo with Jude.
''OH MY DAYS! THANK YOU!'' David exclaimed, dapping up Jude.
Jude flashed his iconic smile to David, walking close to you.
''And for the record, it takes more than one impression to think an athlete like me's stuck-up.'' Jude whispered in your ear, arm brushing against yours before waving bye to David. ''See you lot at the game!''
You put your sunglasses on, walking away with your brother, ''Unbelievable.''
-
Later in the day, you and David were in a taxi going to the stadium that the game was at. Because you didn't want to wear the Bellingham jersey David got for you, the Kane shirt was the only option for you although he wasn't familiar to you.
On the car ride there, you had your Instagram opened to Jude's profile, trying to convince yourself that whatever happened earlier wasn't propaganda and that Jude wasn't all that.
You couldn't confess to your own brother that you thought Jude Bellingham was attractive to you. Not after that encounter in front of the damn store. You were now beginning to understand the crazy fangirls for him and you hated it.
As the taxi was pulling up to the stadium, you quickly powered off your phone and exited the vehicle, thanking the driver and paying him.
''Try not to kill any football players while we're here? Especially Bellingham?''
''Can't promise anything.''
You adjusted your sunglasses so now they were on the bridge of your nose, covering your eyes so David couldn't see where they were gazing to because deep down you already knew you were going to be searching for Jude.
The rest of a game was a blur for you, just a bunch of passing and missed goals. Lots of groaning and cheering came from everybody's mouths but yours. You said stood there silently, arms crossed against your chest like you could care less.
Till you saw Bellingham score a goal with his head.
The stadium erupted into cheers and whoas as Jude scored a goal for England, you were surprised as you gasped and chuckled, taking off your sunglasses.
''BLOODY HELL! Y/N! DID YOU SEE THAT!'' David cheered as you shook your head in disbelief.
Suddenly after that goal he made, you were now biting your thumbnail in anticipation. ''C'mon, Bellingham.''
You saw one of his teammates kick the ball and there he was, making another goal in two minutes. You immediately jumped up and hugged David, surprised you were even jumping up and down because of this.
''HOLY SHIT! NOT BAD, BELLINGHAM!'' You cupped your hands around your mouth as if he was able to hear you.
Jude smiled up at the crowd, somehow locking eyes with you from meters away. He gave you a slight wave from afar and you waved back, smiling bright as ever, David was completely oblivious to this interaction as he was hugging random people over the victory.
-
Hours later after screaming and cheering, everybody was exiting the stadium after England's win.
''Oh.. what a game.'' David huffed, taking out an England jersey out of his bag.
''David- why do you have a third England shirt?'' You questioned, eyebrows furrowing.
''We're about to pass by the players cleaning up on the field! Can you please PLEASE tell Bellingham to sign the jersey? I'll pay for ice cream if you do.'' David whined, seeming like he needed this for multiple reasons.
''Fine! I will be on your ass about that ice cream.''
You snatched the jersey out of his hand that was holding it, walking down the stadium stairs quickly and passing by the field.
''Psst! Jude!''
''Ahh, Y/N. You actually came with David, huh?''
''No, duh. Who else would I be here with?''
You were caught off guard about how easy and fast it was to get his attention.
''Mind signing this? It's for my brother.''
''Yeah.. no problem.'' Jude smiled at you, grabbing a Sharpie out of his bag and got to signing.
''Not bad today, Jude. I'm impressed.''
''I'm not bad? I guess I'm not considered stuck-up anymore, yeah? That's a start.''
You put your head down trying not to show how easy you get flustered, chuckling softly.
''Here. And uh, tell your brother that number I wrote isn't for him. It's more for.. you.'' He said with a whisper.
Before you could question him, Jude walked off with a wink as he gave you back the shirt.
''What- what number..''
You searched the shirt for any black marker and right away saw Jude Bellingham's phone number written on the back of the clothing article.
''Smooth.. very smooth.'' You said, murmuring to yourself and smiling while walking to the exit in order to meet your brother there.
-
''Hey Y/N? What are these random numbers Jude wrote on the back of the jersey?'' David called out from his bed, standing on the side and looking down at it.
After hours and hours of exploring and football, the city had gone quiet now and the two of you were both in the hotel room David had booked for the trip.
''Oh shit-'' You remembered, getting up quickly not wanting him to suspect anything, the last thing you wanted your own brother to do was to start texting Jude when it was only for you. ''Uhh.. oh yeah! He told me it's random code only understandable to Englanders, it's weird. He's weird.'' You swiftly lied, grabbing the shirt to pretend you were inspecting it.
''Oh. Okay, give the jersey back when you're done.''
You waited til David emerged into the bathroom before typing Jude's number into your messages app. You quickly typed a message to him so he knew you saw his written number.
