17. Have you ever gotten sheer joy out of hurting someone else, either physically or mentally? To whom and why? Did it scare you?
Frowning, Liam studied the younger girl for a minute. There was one specific instance she could think of, and the evidence of it was plain as day on her face. Leading up to that moment, Liam thought that killing Kellogg would make her happy. That somehow it would fix the hole in her heart that the bastard had torn, and things would get on their way back to normal. But as she thought back to that day, to the sting of the knife as it cut into flesh of her face not once but twice, to the inability to tell her own blood from that of the man she grappled with on the floor... It wasnât joy which had overcome her.
âNo. I didnât have fun. It didnât bring me joy. He took everything from me--Â I was angry. Maybe if it had been before the War, I wouldâve been scared... But after everything Iâd been through, I wanted to kill him.â
âHe wasnât even human to me.â
20. Are there people in this world who, no matter how much time and penitence is given, should never be forgiven?
âYou remember the guy I talked about before? I actually got a peek into his memories. Took his brain implant, hooked it up to a big machine, popped right in like I belonged there. Saw everything from when he was a kid, all the way up to the present. Turns out, his family was taken from him, too. Real humanizing stuff. It was kind of sad. But you know something?â
âI still didnât forgive him. He could have groveled at my feet and moved heaven and earth for me, and that wouldnât change a damn thing. He made his choices. Hell, Iâd say he even had it coming. So yeah, thereâs people in this world who shouldnât be forgiven.â
