Tried and tested. It create a lot of sparks! The heated flint gets extremely hot very quickly - I had mine in the middle of the lighters flame, and it melted the top of the lighter to the point I threw it on the ground several feet away from me to make sure I was safe. I was fascinated by the fact that the flint went black, then turned white as it heated up, before becoming red hot.
The hot flint fragments when it hits a hard surface, each fragment creating more sparks. I tested it on pavements and gravelly ground, and used very little throwing force. There was no noticeable difference between the two surfaces.
If you try this, be VERY careful! This has second and third degree burns in potentia written all over it!
It is also making me look at my broken micro ferro rod in a completely different light...

Non-insulated stainless steel water bottles can be used as pots in a survival situation. You need one with thick walls, stay away from thin walled bottles. And try to get one with a wide mouth. The one pictured has a 55mm mouth, which makes it easy to fill with vegetables and meats when you need to improvise a pot. When making stews and soups in a stainless steel bottle, cut everything as small as possible (within reason). This makes it cook quicker. Cook the meat before adding the vegetables. Stir constantly! It is hard to clean out food that sticks to the bottom!
So today I was told I was wasting my life away with all the outdoor survival hand to hand combat, and field craft i spend doing, I.E ranger challenge, over night camps with ex service people, learning how to live off the land ect, I see that its not normal then most college students or teenagers.
But come on the skills you learn doing half the stuff I've done will save your life,
