Day 45 – I am ‘blank-page’ thinking… There are days when you need to take a blank page and deliberately think into filling it. Not because you ‘have to’, but because you ‘want to.’ A blank page can be looked at as an obstacle or an opportunity. If you feel that a blank slate is overwhelming, you have not put on your ‘blank-page/opportunity-seeking/discovery-learning/reverse-engineering/scramble-the-eggs-to-make-an-omelet/dream-in-color’ ‘thinking-cap’ - yet. Go find it… it’s in the closet behind those old clothes you were going to donate last year… Once you find it… put it on and think… Yea – that sounds stupid, but you get the idea… think outside the blank page and bring your inner thoughts to life. Day 40 – I am seeing red skies at night… The reference to red skies at night is an old and trusted belief. Often spoken by sailors, it means that there will be fair weather tomorrow. The Bible even references the idea. However, the opposite is said for red skies in the morning, which predicts lousy weather.   This is not some sort of magic or superstition. First, the sun sets in the west, and most weather fronts move from west to east. If the sky is red at sunset, it is caused by high pressure and stable air coming from the west. It also indicates that no clouds to the west block the sunset.   If the sky is red in the morning, clouds are moving in from the west, the sun reflects off dust particles and high-water concentration in the clouds, and you have a good chance of rain.   The last night on the boat brought a brilliant red sky, and we knew we were in for calm weather. It was also a sign that we had learned so much over the week-long adventure in the Florida Keys that the way ahead was clear. Day 38 – I am owning it… Good, Bad, or Ugly – there are times when you fight to have a victory, and you know you must let it go. For example, when we started with ‘fish on,’ we thought we would catch something we could eat. But, when we brought the catch up to the boat, we realized we had a shark that might eat us. It took about an hour to bring the shark up to the boat, and by then, my arms were done. The result was an 8’1” Bull Shark. What a powerful and beautiful creature it was. We brought it up close, took pictures to prove we had caught it, and then cut the line to let it go. A great catch, but one we could not keep. The fight to catch the fish was overwhelming. However, it was not a loss when we cut the line and set the shark free. Just before we cut the line, I knew I owned the shark. It put up a great fight, but in the end, I won. I realized, however, that I did not need to own the shark, to own the shark. I did not need to take it home and mount it on the wall. I owned the shark because I owned the experience of the shark. By owning the experience, my mind was stretched; once stretched, it can never go back. Day 37 – I am excited by the possibilities…   Continuing from yesterday. First, I thought I was snagged, and then the snag started pulling me out of the boat. For thirty minutes, I fought a head-to-head battle with a complete unknown. Finally, we lifted anchor and began chasing it, but it started running from the boat, and I could not reel it in. My arms were about to fall off.   About the 40-minute mark, it hit the surface with a big splash. But, from a distance, we could not tell what we had… or what had us. All I knew was it was bigger than anything I had ever caught.   What an incredible feeling. The possibilities were unimaginable. Think about this for a moment. What is happening in your life that is right below the surface with endless possibilities? You know it’s there, you feel it’s there, but it’s just out of sight, out of reach.   There was a moment when we thought about cutting the line and giving up, but the second we saw the splash on the surface, we knew we had to stay in the fight.
