Like, for all the problems with Mass Effect: Andromeda, I actually have been really enjoying it, and am looking forward to replaying it with just as much gusto as I did the first trilogy. It's not a bad game. It's a bit rough, obviously rushed in some places, but it's also funny, and has a lot of heart, and man do I ever identify with Ryder. They're not some polished, storied soldier like Shepard. Ryder knows they're not gonna be able to fill their dad's shoes: he was N7, and brilliant, and always seemed to be a step ahead. Ryder though? They're waaaaay over their head, just kinda flying by the seat of their pants, and you know what? It's kinda working! Sometimes. When stuff isn't blowing up. Their dialogue, especially if you choose the sarcastic or humorous options, feels very human. It reminds me of Hawke, and I say that with the utmost fondness bc DA2 was my fave in that series. They're equal parts scared, hopeful, and angry. Shepard never had to prove they were capable: their background told you they were. Ryder is untested, and has absolutely everything to prove, and damn if that isn't relatable to everyone whose ever been in an unfamiliar situation and had to fake it til they made it. Where ME:A is good, it /shines/, and I think it's absolutely worth giving it a shot, even if its devs have washed their hands on it.
