As an artist I find myself looking at AI generation as a tool — a tool that I am not interested in using. Though I must admit to being a pirate of ideas and images they all are digested by my unconscious aesthetic and returned to the real world through manipulations of my hands and eyes. I am too enamored of the tactility inherent of real materials, real things to get want to be lost in a never-never-land of manufactured fake things. Though it can be argued that all art is a lie, I feel that the strive towards a personal craftsmanship is an integral part of being an artist. I feel good learning about both my skills and my limitations. Often when I meet someone and tell them I am an artist they respond with "I can't draw a straight line." I respond by saying "if you want to produce a really straight line you use a straight-edge ruler" — but most often I find lines that are not quite straight are more interesting and emotionally pleasing than mathematically perfect lines (or circles, or squares, or triangles . . . ).
Perhaps there is no definitive answer to the question of AI, but all I know is that it is not a tool I have any desire to use.
