OurCiel crying about his twin dying, feeling it should have been him instead, but ParentWill gives him words of wisdom that comforts him. Thus strengthing their bond.
Tears slipped down his face; one after the other and all following the same dirt streaked path. It was as if his heart itself had turned to liquid and was now streaming from his eyes. âThis isnât right,â he cried to himself, âIt shouldnât have been you.â
âWho should it have been?â a voice asked from behind him.
The boy turned around and blinked several times so that the image of the man that stood nearby became clear. He was a tall man with dark hair slicked carefully back from his forehead. Green eyes stared down at him - powerful eyes that shined with intelligence.
The boy didnât answer at first. He just shook his head and turned and looked back at the ground. Although no body lay before him, it was clear that he was seeing someone in his mind.
âWho should it have been?â the man asked once more.
âM...Me,..â the boy choked. The words, the admission spoken aloud, caused more tears to rush to the surface, âIt should have been me!â
The man knelt next to the boy. âWhy would you say such a thing?â he asked.
âBe...because my brother was the strong one,â the boy said, âHe...he wouldnât cry...like this. And everyone....loved him.â
Reaching into his jacket, the man pulled out a handkerchief to wipe away the boyâs tears. âPeople loved you. They still do.â
âNot like Ci..not like my brother,â the boy said, as he leaned forward and clung to the manâs shirt. âTheyâll ask me how I could survived and he didnât. Theyâll be...disappointed!â
Clumsy hands reached up to embrace the sobbing child. âIâm not disappointed,â the man said.
The boy became quieter as he seemed to process the words. âWhat do you mean?â he finally asked.
âI came here to rescue a boy,â the man replied, âA very strong boy. A boy who could survive unspeakable horrors.â
âBut...â
âThere are no buts,â the man interrupted, âI came here for you - the survivor. Never forget that. You have more worth than you have ever guessed.â Standing up, the man straightened his suit. âWhat is your name?â he asked.
The boyâs eyes blinked quickly as his gaze slid off to the side. âCiel,â he answered.
âI see,â the man said, âWell, my name is William.â He held out his hand. âWe need to leave this place.â
âCielâ hesitantly took the offered hand. âWhere are we going?â he asked.
âAs I said, Iâve come to take you from here,â William replied, âI want to take you somewhere where you can truly understand your own strength...and the beauty of your own name and identity.â
Quietly, the walked away; their bodies fading into the distant as they stepped closer to the future that awaited them.
