Thinking about how the dd1 cycle is not just meant as a test of willpower but also a test of love. Grigori picks you because you dared to face him despite certain death, and then he leaves you alone for a bit, doing random quests and helping people. He gives you time to get stronger, but aside from that Grigori and the Seneschal want you to see the world and to care about its people. Even the first act you do to establish yourself as arisen is the creation of a Pawn, of new life that is yours to care for and look after, as they look after you.
When he then makes you chose between the throne or your beloved, he asks why you are here. Are you fighting for love, or for your own life, or for glory? He gives you the option to run, even offers you a throne. He really only wants to know one thing: do you love the world and its people enough to die for it?
Thats pretty standard hero business. But then, after you beat the Dragon, the world is not saved. The end seems even closer than before
So you descend the Everfall and face the Seneschal, and here the question changes; do you love the world enough to live for it? After everything youve done, all the people youve met and challenges youve overcome, all the times you chose to risk your own life and limb for the small chance that others might live, are you willing to suffer eternity alone so that the world might continue turning, without ever being a part of it again?
