I was planning on doing my usual ~AO3 Wrapped recap post this year but truth be told, I just Did Not Read Much Fic (or anything really) this year. It happens! Don't like it but it happens. It was a shitty year. There were SEVERAL months where I didn't read a single fic, and I just wasn't interested in the transformative sides of my main/new-ish fixations this year. (I did play 221 hours of Baldur's Gate 3 and watch an obscene amount of figure skating though, both streaming and in person at Worlds and Skate America.) Honestly, the idea of combing through data from all 35(!!! lol god) fics I read felt both a little silly and a little depressing. So instead, something I always mean to do at the end of my Wrapped posts, but then don't because I run out of steam: a tiny rec list. :)
(note, these are just fics I read and loved in 2025, not fics written in 2025. I raided my Marked for Later list a lot this year.)
"gold to airy thinness beat" by greenantigone (FE3H, Sylvain/Felix, teen, 6.1k)
- A mid-timeskip wartime sylvix fic that I somehow completely missed when it was posted back in 2022, a time when I would have been happy to read nothing BUT mid-timeskip wartime sylvix?? Hold me. I absolutely loved this; the author really Gets the sylvix of it all and the weird Faerghus ties that bind, and Sylvain's POV has just the right mix of fatalistic humor and sharp observations. It's wonderful and inspired me to leave a 700-word comment, which I haven't done in ages.
"Haunted house sound effects" by dothemario (FE3H, Sylvain/Felix, mature, 7.1k PLUS A VISUAL NOVEL)
- A VERY funny and creative Lost Boys/vampire AU, with again, a whole-ass visual novel in chapter 3. Just a total delight. It's wacky and silly, but the setting still feels lived-in and real. Plus, depending on your choices, you might get to stab stupid sexy half-vampire Sylvain with a pair of scissors! Who can say no to that?! A+ would recommend.
"method actor" by pulses (The Pitt, Santos&Whitaker, Garcia/Santos, teen, 5.2k)
- I have not really explored this fandom at all, fic-wise, but I really liked this! Great post-s1 Santos character study, and I love how the author writes her relationship with Whitaker (my boy!!!!). Not to mention her backstory and her relationship with her mom, which both felt really true to canon and her character. Very very good.
"a fever you can't sweat out" by anonymous (FE3H, Dimitri/Sylvain, explicit, 11.7k)
- Because what's a rec list without a little sex pollen? Bonus points for that deeeelicious undercurrent of dread. (Because: pre-timeskip! post-remire! UH OH!) There are so many good sentences and little details (the old wives' tales!) and just...the FLAVOR. The miserable, conflicted flavor. anon drop your ao3 handle please
"Off Season" by skazka (Jaws, Brody/Hooper, mature, 2k)
- I watched Jaws for the first(!!!) time this summer and then immediately thought "wow those two should kiss." Apparently I'm not alone! thank god. This is a great coda to the film with some lovely prose, natural and understated. It just feels right.
"Cobblestoned Sea" by keithsforeheadtattoo (Jaws, gen, 6.9k)
- MORE JAWS FIC! This might be my top fic of the year?? Or up there, at least. The premise: "Hooper gets his period on Amity Island. Like... all throughout the events of Jaws." ngl I was a little hesitant to click because a fic with that summary could go in several different directions (some decidedly Not For Me), but I'm so glad I did in the end. Genuinely, it's just a really beautiful and tender lil fic that feels both historically and personally grounded. The way the author wrote some of Quint's dialogue towards the end really got me good; I keep reading it over and over again. Gorgeous stuff. Also, the comment section is really nice! Lots of guys who saw themselves in Hooper, and then found this fic (and vice versa). :]
I am leaving out lots of good fics but I think I will end it here. Feels right. Hopefully 2026 will be a better reading year for me on all fronts, but I won't force it. My 29-page-long (and growing...) Marked for Later isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
One last thing: even though I'm not doing fic stats this year, LET IT BE KNOWN that my #1 rusty boi sylvain is still my #1 most-read main character this year, at 62.9%. I will never be free. 😌

Tumblr is indeed being weird, so I'm just copying what I wrote in a DM here, since it's not going through.
Disclaimer: I assume this is talking about @jandjsalmon's Tracking Sheet, so please correct/explain anything I get wrong with my guess!
If it's talking about my own Reading Log (the 'Read 2+ times?' thing) it's just a matter of keeping track on if I read a fic more than once that year, and why the 'chapters read' and 'words read' counts are double, triple, etc. compared to the actual chapter and word count of the fic.
But yeah, here's the bit I answered via DM earlier today:
I assume you mean one/both of the reading logs, not the challenge itself. Jandy and I both came up with the thought ourselves that we just wanted to keep track if we read a fic more than once in the given year. On my log you still have to mentally double the chapter and word count in the fields but maybe Jandy’s automatically multiplies it for you if you indicate it’s a reread (I haven’t checked that out but I can, lemme see….)
Okay so I fiddled with it a little more and it’s pretty brilliant actually. As far as re-read go, you would just create another line, a duplicate of the first time you read it, but mark ‘yes’ in the reread column (which allows you to sort between unique titles and keep the rereads at the bottom or similar)
And each time you put in a different title or author, it automatically counts each different one towards that little box at the top (thus rereads or individual chapter reads don’t count towards the total — I’m definitely going to pick her brain on that one) so you don’t have to manually count like I did with my log last year lol
I hope that helps answer your question? I may run this by Jandy and have her add/correct and then post this publicly on the blog for others to see.
I meant to post this earlier (like last weekend) but then I finally started playing Baldur's Gate 3 and uhhhhh uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh OOPS where did the time go. So before it gets even more egregious (and because I am eyeing my Steam Deck as I write this): here's my 2024 AO3 Wrapped! Already posted on twitter and bluesky, but now with more rambling. Here we go.
Word Count
So: in 2024 I read 64 fics and 546,908 words across 15 fandoms. That's a good 13 fewer fics compared to last year and 400k fewer words somehow, holy shit? I knew I was gravitating towards short fic this year (which tracks with my book reading too) but damn. My attention span really wasn't great. I had some definite dips through the year but my fic reading basically ground to a halt this fall. too stressed, too tired, too sad. December did bring a revival in both reading and general mood/ability to engage with fandom stuff, so an enormous thank you to sylvix week for being such a big part of that. Hopefully things continue to improve in the new year because woof. (also my Marked for Later is soooooooooo loooong lol.)

Surprise surprise. What can I say, no other fandom had that je ne sais quoi that makes me want to seek out fic seriously! Did some dabbling in other fandoms throughout the year, plus a little fic book club with friends that made me finally read some classics like astolat's Transformers But Make It Omelas fic (believe it or not, my first and only astolat, though not my first Naomi Novik), but otherwise I'm still very monofandom. I'm wondering if the Witch Hat Atelier anime later this year will inspire me to finally read all those fics in my MfL... it might! or maybe not! really depends. Like, I fully expected to read more Dungeon Meshi fic this year, but I think the fact that I am still sloooowly reading the manga (according to what my library system has, not scanlations), and have no desire to be spoiled more than I already am (grumble) was a big deterrent. And IWTV, which I LOVE, is already so satisfying that I personally don't need or want to fill in any blanks in a fannish way.

47 individual authors with a few repeats - thank you again mikey desmodus for your service and dedication to putting sylvain into so many situations. 🫡 I DID finally read fic by a few authors whose names I've seen around for years but never tried out, which was fun! And led to reading a bunch of stuff I might not normally read, which is also fun/illuminating.
Top Pairings
I'm still sylvix trash after all these years, water is wet, etc. What can I say, those two have an iron grip on my brain. But I'm pleasantly surprised to see more F/F 3H pairings creeping up in the rankings! Well, "more" is a relative term when you look at the numbers but there's a lot of great stuff out there. Good job None for holding on to the no. 2 spot, and as always I'm delighted to see my Rakugo darlings make an appearance thanks to my Annual SGRS Jess Fic.

Sylvain at 50% (down from 57% lol) - how the mighty have fallen...😔 Kidding aside, this is about what I expected especially given my top ships. It's always kind of fun to see who shows up in the 1s though, outside of 3H; we got Transformers, we got History Boys, we got half-foot adventurers! And below the arbitrary top 20 cut off, there are hockey players, kpop idols, one charming young man capable of being terrible™, a crotchety journalist-turned-vampire, and your average Napoleonic War-era naturalist/physician/spy. Variety! yahoo.

PWP, Character Study, Established Relationship, Post-Canon? Check. But it was VERY interesting to see Humor break into the top six for the first time, with a not entirely insignificant lead over ye olde standbys Pining and Angst. not sure if this was due to my gravitating towards lighter fic this year (which would definitely make sense considering...how this year has gone) OR because I apparently made an effort to add the Humor tag even if the authors didn't? Probably a bit of both tbh; I definitely wasn't actively seeking out dark content (example: Major Character Death is an extremely mood-dependent tag for me in a normal year and even less appealing recently, and there are a few fics with that tag - by authors I like! - that have been sitting in my MfL for going on two years now). But also, there's a lot of genuinely funny fic out there! I want to keep track of those gems.
Etc: Commenting, Rereading, Reccing, and Bookmarks
I managed to comment on over 50% of fics I read in 2023, and continued doing so in 2024 (despite everything). From 51.9% to 54.69%, hooray. I definitely want to see if I can increase that number this year. Looks like I enjoyed/would rec a comfortable majority of the fic I read too, which is always nice, and got a little less wishy washy on the fic I didn't like (more Nos than Maybes in 2024, while Maybe had a solid lead in 2023). I didn't outright hate anything either. I'm still not much of a rereader, and bookmarks remain low like they generally have since I started tracking my fic (which is probably a combo of being mostly in a five-year-old fandom and well, tracking my fic in a separate spreadsheet). About half of the fic I DID bookmark were for non-3H fandoms too.
Looking Ahead
So that's it! I haven't actually read any new fic in 2025 yet since almost literally all my downtime has been spent playing Baldur's Gate 3 lol. but I am hopeful for this year! At least in terms of my reading (no comment on the rest). Despite my current BG3 fixation I will be EXTREMELY surprised if that translates into my reading any fic - tbh even though I've loved this series for over 20 years (it's one of THE defining video games of my youth, and the new game is fucking incredible), I've never been interested in the transformative fandom side of things. We'll see if that changes this year, but I'm kind of doubtful. Witch Hat is another story, but again, you never know. There's a ton of 3H fic I want to get to soon so I've definitely got enough reading material on that side of things (WIPs! new fic posted during sylvix week! old fic I've been meaning to read for a year now! pairings I'm curious about but have never really checked out!). Let's see where the fandom winds take me I guess. :)

I had a lot of fun tracking my fic reading in 2022, so... I did it again in 2023! Still fun, still both completely unsurprising and a little illuminating at the same time. I definitely read less fic this past year—only 77 across 12 fandoms, compared to last year's 110—but that's OK. Life happens, and I'm very aware that I'm never going to be a person who reads a million words per month (or 100 books a year). Stats-wise, I can't guarantee that these numbers are completely accurate, but they feel right and that's what counts.
Word Count
971,646 words! Numbers fluctuated throughout the year with one real dead zone (lol @ June - I was busy! sibling got married! played a lot of Zelda!), and I kind of petered out by the end of the year. On the plus side, my brain can handle reading actual books again, which was fun. On the minus side: less fic. Oh well. (Also: May's number isn't entirely accurate, but I had to put rubicon's final word count somewhere. No, I haven't finished reading the complete edited fic yet, but that's when the last chapter draft hit my inbox, soooo there.) Most fics were on the shorter side, unsurprisingly (average length was ~12k); I think rubicon was the only one over 100k. I did read more 50–100k fic compared to last year though, which was nice.

Top Fandoms
My FE3H reading took a HUGE hit this year, falling from 87.3% to... 83.1%. Ouch, how will my faves recover. Really though, this was yet another reminder that although I certainly watched and loved a lot of new movies and tv shows, read new books, played new video games (ok, it was mostly BOTW/TOTK), all things that could conceivably lead me to check out greener pastures, I am still in an extremely monofandom phase in terms of actual fic reading/fandom participation (four years now!). And honestly, I'm fine with that! I'm having fun, blorbos are still my blorbos, there's still a ton of fic I haven't read yet (new and old), and I'm in a nice/quiet/drama-free corner of fandom. Besides, the average fandom lifespan is too short these days anyway. I'm doing my part to break the cycle. :P
I do wish I had the brain space to read a little more widely, though. I was so close to going on a zelink bender after I finished BOTW, but life got busy and it just... didn't happen. Maybe in 2024. Severance and fandom juggernaut SoftBank Next 30-Year Vision tried their best—two fics each! impressive, lol—but the heart wants what it wants, and what it wants is anime chess pieces kissing (and/or killing) each other.

56 individual authors, with the top spot going to...desmodus! which does not surprise me tbh; they write such good fic. Looking at these particular results was an interesting reminder that I'm really not someone who methodically/voraciously reads through an author's entire back catalogue, at least not currently. Like, besides the named authors, there were four more with two fics each and the rest had only one each. Next time, I'm almost tempted to see if I can factor in word count to get a better idea of how much time I really spent reading each author, especially since I might (hypothetically) read multiple forgettable 1–5k fics by Author A, and then a single memorable/meaty 95k fic by Author B that sticks with me for years. Is Author A really more of a "top" author? Not really. That's more work on my part though, so we'll see what happens. (All of this waffling could be solved by making an actual rec list for once, but shhhhh.)
Top Pairings
Surprising absolutely no one, I'm still in sylvix hell. Congrats to None for jumping a couple spots in the rankings, though! A solid showing. I need to get better at tracking platonic relationships, but to be fair, those tags are underutilized on AO3 to begin with (or not used consistently), and I typically—but not always—stick with the main tags chosen by the author.
Also, please note that the ship in sixth place was entirely thanks to alphabetical sorting (it was a six-way tie), but I'm keeping it as is because it makes me laugh/implies some sort of character growth on my part that may or may not exist.

Lol. In my defense(?), Sylvain did drop almost three whole points this year; he couldn't even hit 60%! What kind of blorbo...?! Jokes aside, it's an entirely expected list. My Blue Lions/Golden Deer bias persists, but I'm not sure what determined when I logged "Blue Lions Students" vs. their actual names—probably half laziness, half just following what the author picked. I did love seeing Ask A Manager's Allison Green chilling at the bottom of this list with Bakugo, though. I'm sure she'll be fine. (And god knows Mr. King Explosion Murder and the rest of my top 20 could stand to follow her advice.)

Also pretty unsurprising! I considered cutting my NSFW tracker at the beginning of last year since it's a little redundant, but that never happened. It might come in handy one day, especially if I'm looking through my spreadsheet for individualized recs. I was surprised that the Multi category was so low, but that could be due to inconsistencies in how people tag their fic? And/or how I logged them. Sometimes it means poly, but sometimes it just means that there are multiple kinds of ships in a fic. Either way, it's something to consider for 2024's tracker. Consistency! Let's strive for it! ✨

Also about what I expected, though I was honestly shocked to see Established Relationship ranking so high? And Friends to Lovers so low? What is going ON here. (The former is probably partially due to mikey desmodus's excellent married sylvix fics.) Sorry to Horse Feelings, though; I made a dedicated tag on my google form and everything, but there was only the one fic in the end :(
Etc: Commenting, Rereading, Reccing, and Bookmarks
Commenting: My only real fic-reading "goal" in 2023 was to get my commenting percentage up to at least 50% and...I did that! Just barely, but 51.9% is 51.9%. Obsessive media tracking works!
Rereads: As expected, and pretty in line with last year (with a tiny increase). I'm just not a big rereader in general, though I did do a fair bit of rereading WIPs to prepare for new chapters. (Not sure how I classified those, come to think of it...)
Bookmarks: Also pretty similar to last year (with a tiny decrease).
Reccing: Now this DID surprise me. That "Yes" percentage seems almost absurdly high, jumping from 46.4% to 61%, and my "No"s dropped a ton too (22.7% to 5.2%). Either I got nicer or I just read better fic. :P Leaning towards the former, but probably a bit of both tbh. My one DNF was a longfic WIP that didn't spark joy and was becoming a hateread, which is rare for me - byeeeee.
Takeaways
By now my tracking form has become part of my fic-reading routine (read - track - comment/etc), and I can't see that changing any time soon. Obviously not everyone wants to (or should!) engage with fic this way, and I can definitely see how it might suck the joy out of reading for some people, but for me, it's been a good mental exercise and a really helpful commenting aid. Also, it's just fun. I like thinking critically about media! I like having a place to record my silly little thoughts about the silly little fanfics I read! All in all, I highly recommend doing something similar if you, like me, get a rush from making lists and compiling data, and if you like complimenting people but sometimes need that extra push to actually tell them and post a comment.
Goals-wise... I don't really do those lol. Probably to continue commenting and maybe try to read more widely, but honestly I'm probably not going to change my habits intentionally. Besides, looking at what I've read so far, yes, it's already half Fire Emblem, but also half gen and half F/F with nary a Sylvain in sight*! We got History Boys, we got Haikyuu filk, we got Ingrid and a MILF! Who knows what's around the corner?

Last year, inspired by some people on discord, I decided to actually track my fic reading for once. I’ve been logging my books and movies for a good 20 years now, so why not try that with fic? I hoped it might help me comment more too, or at least get a sort of baseline number that I could improve on. So, after crunching the numbers: I read 110 fics and 1,188,700 words across 15 fandoms (...more on that last point later)! It was a fun experiment that I’ll definitely do again, with some tweaks. Please forgive any weird numbers/percentages; I haven’t taken a math class in manymany years, and it probably (definitely?) shows. The vibes are accurate, at least.

Word count
This is about what I expected, though I was surprised to see that I only read one 50-100k fic (only one 100k+ fic too, but that doesn’t surprise me at all). I finished up a couple long(er) fic in January (notably, one 200k+ fic), hence the high numbers there, and only read one (1!) fic in July, which explains those low numbers. Otherwise I generally read between 50-100k total per month.

So, about those 15 fandoms. I really did think I might have more variety back in January - like maybe I’d be able to chart fandom trends over the months, something like that! - but lol nope. My FE3H fixation is still going strong, three years later. I’ll get to those Witch Hat Atelier and Stranger Things fics in my Marked for Later pile...eventually.

No real surprises here. I’ve been in sylvix hell since early 2020 so I knew they’d dominate, but there’s an okay showing from...other Sylvain ships...and gen! and Claude ships! Hi Claude! (Graph cuts off at 20 for my sanity.)

Ha. ha ha ha ha ha ha. Surprise! Listen: I knew Sylvain would be #1, I’m not an idiot. However I did NOT realize he featured in 60% of the fic I read in 2022, jeeeesus christ man. (He’s versatile, okay!!!) Chief Blorbo aside, my Blue Lions/Golden Deer bias persists. Maybe in 2023 I'll read all those Black Eagles fics I saved? Or fic from other fandoms?? Looks like I sure read a lot of horny post-canon friends-to-lovers get-together fics with a good dose of pining, huh. That...tracks. Regarding AUs, modern AUs won (14.8%), followed by college/university, canon divergent, and modern with magic. Also fun: figure skating! magical girls! rock band! time loops!
I definitely need to rethink how I track nsfw content though - it’s very inconsistent and redundant here, and doesn’t really tell me anything. The explicit rating is self explanatory, but what’s the deal with those different NSFW and smut numbers? Where did I draw the line? It probably make more sense to scrap the latter tag and just track PWPs.
Etc: Commenting, Rereading, Reccing, and Bookmarks
Commenting: I mentioned earlier that I hoped logging my fic reading would help me comment more, or at least find out how frequently I leave comments, and turns out that number is 46/110, or 41.8%. (Mer reminded me that this number does NOT include alpha reader comments, which is very true. ✨⛸️) Not bad, but I think 50% (or more?) is definitely doable next year. This whole practice really did help me comment more - it made me stop and think about exactly what I did or didn’t like about each fic I read, from <1k vignettes to 200k+ canon retellings. Obviously I’m not telling the authors what I didn’t like, but as for the good stuff...like, I found a lot of compliments hidden in the Comments/Notes field of my spreadsheet that never actually made it to a proper comment, but they definitely could have. I’m never gonna be a person who comments on everything, and I’m NOT going to lie and tell an author that I liked their fic when I really...didn’t? but: 50%. I think I can do that.
(also I cannot emphasize enough how great it was to have a completely private space to bitch about terrible (or not-so-terrible) fanfic. does this fic use too many repetitive epithets? does that author NOT understand Character Y at ALL? was the resolution to this otherwise decent fic just a liiiittle too rushed? tell it to the google form!!! A+ would recommend.)
Rereads: As expected! I don’t reread a ton, with some exceptions. (Honestly a lot of my non-FE fics this year were rereads of old favorites.)
Bookmarks: Without double-checking, I think I bookmarked fewer fics compared to previous years, mostly because I was already keeping track of them in my spreadsheet. I’d like to get a little better at consciously bookmarking fic going forward, though - it’s really handy to have a public, easily accessible list of my faves. (I also say this as someone who frequently raids the public bookmarks of other commenters/authors/etc.)
Recs: 46.4% “yes”! interesting. Only one hard no, and that was partially my fault for not reading tags/warnings correctly.
In an ideal world I’d have some actual fic recs here too, but that...did not happen.
Overall!
This was a fun and very satisfying experiment, especially as someone who loves tracking things. I know a lot of people hate the idea of having an actual/official AO3 Wrapped, and honestly I wouldn’t like that either, but it was fun to actively (and manually) subject myself to this particular Mortifying Ordeal of Being Known Through Fanfic Tropes. I DO think it made me read fic a little more...deliberately? And therefore I read a little less fic than normal, maybe. I noticed that I hardly dropped any fic at all, either because I was more picky with what I read or I just powered through, and I don’t think that was the case in previous years. There was also a tiny bit of pressure at the beginning to start off the year with the “right” fic. Like, “oh god is my first fic of the year seriously going to be this unfinished 2nd person, woke-up-with-the-wrong-junk CYOA in which Claude and Lorenz investigate fuckplants and discover the true meaning of friendship.” (for the record, it was not my first fic of the year, but I DO recommend it.)
