♢ — WHAT ELEMENT-BASED SYMBOLISM DO YOU CONNECT WITH?
fire as passion
passion is fire’s most recognizable metaphor, though it takes many forms: rage, destruction, lust, love, energy, power. Fire, here, is less about light and more about heat. Sometimes you make choices you know will ultimately turn out bad for you, because to you, almost anything is worth feeling something real. You are nostalgic for times when your feelings were more vibrant—but in reality, they weren’t more vibrant then, they just caught your attention more because they were new and shiny. Keep in mind that periods of anxiety or restlessness in your life aren’t proof that you need to cling harder to what used to make you feel things. Doing the necessary work of creating routines and taking care of yourself may feel boring, but just because something’s not immediately satisfying doesn’t mean it can be put off forever.
earth as cover
the earth conceals precious metals, gemstones, magma. Insects. Seeds waiting to sprout. Things that have already taken root. Bodies, decomposing and becoming what surrounds them. Things are hidden underneath the ground—some that will harm you and some that will nourish you. You are a private person, and you bury the parts of yourself you don’t think are worth being seen. You want to dig your hands into everything the world has to offer, but at the same time you are afraid of what you might find, and you would sometimes rather shrink back into the security of your own little world. Remember that finding—and creating—better things is hard, scary work, and you may have to dig for a long time. But what you are looking for—whether it is something external or something in yourself—is there, and it is already taking root.
