"The Beating Heartland" is a bi-weekly Midwest horror audio drama. Follow the story as radio show host Denver Baughman, with the help of a mysterious agency, tries to piece together the puzzle of his horrifying past through his radio show, therapy sessions, and interrogations.

If you've ever listened to horror fiction podcasts you're going to be familiar with the basic format here: individual spooky stories told by a protag that over time prove to be connected. So far so TMA. HOWEVER, TBH has it's own unique take here. There are three levels to the story from the get go: the stories protagonist Denver reads as part of his spooky radio show; the stories about his own life Denver tells to his therapist; and the interrogation interviews Denver gives to the "mysterious agency" as mentioned in the official synopsis. The cutting between them helps keep things fresh, and the connection between the stories are for the most part more immediately apparent than in some versions of this trope. Halfway through season 1 things start to open up and branch out considerably, as the cast fills out and character interactions intensify. I'm not fully caught up so I'm not sure where season 2 ends (it did so just recently) but I'll update once I know.

A solo-narrator horror fiction podcast following Vatican linguist Father Tommaso Lanza as he investigates deaths for the Custodia Ultimae Vocis. Each episode documents a new case as he attempts to translate an ancient, impossible language that appears only at the moment of death.

This may be another "man speaks furtively into his recorder" podcast, but it's not one you're gonna want to miss. The focus on history and religion is really interesting as it asks, what if God's "miracles" were cosmic horror?

I Am In Eskew is a single narrator horror fantasy audio drama. Eskew is a city of steep and winding streets, where the rain seemingly never stops and the buildings change at will. David, the narrator, is from our world, but has found himself trapped in this living, murderous city, unable to find his way home. With escape impossible, David documents his bizarre, often mind-bending experiences in a series of endless recording, hoping that someone – anyone – will hear them. In this twisted city, nothing is what it seems, and the strange population that David meets there – the journalist, obsessed with the letters she receives, the architect who won’t talk about the building they designed, the mysterious woman intent on burning Eskew to the ground – know more than they let on.

Each episode is told in first person from the protagonist: the saddest boy you've ever heard trapped in a bizarre and hostile city. A collection of grotesque episodes that eventually build to finale.

Hi Nay, literally translated to “Hi Mom”, is a supernatural horror fictional podcast about Filipina immigrant Mari Datuin, whose babaylan (shaman) family background accidentally gets her involved in stopping dangerous supernatural events in Toronto.

Told as a series of answering machine messages left by the protagonist to her mother (and others), about the paranormal mysteries she finds herself dragged into by a pair of cops who have caught on that there are some cases they can't solve.

It has been called “Umberto Eco meets HP Lovecraft.” THORB is a horror fantasy medical mystery podcast with an aesthetic that can only be described as Occult Academia and Laboratory Judaica.

Take care dear stranger, and remember, some secrets are better left unknown.

Takes place in a completely different world from ours, where the culture is medieval, but some of the technological and medical advances are pretty incredible. Radulf Burntwine is a natural philosopher who goes from place to place solving medical mysteries. Each episode he tackles someone with a semi-familiar affliction (zombies, werewolves) but from the point of view of an academic treating symptoms rather than unraveling magic and ritual.

Malik and Jamie were roommates when the world ended. Now separated by half the country, literal acid rain, werewolves, aliens, and more, they start a chat podcast to stay in touch and work through the increasing uncertainty of their new apocalyptic reality. Each episode, Malik & Jamie will tackle topics like: should I change my office hours to accommodate vampire students? What if the body snatcher that took over my ex is nice? When did the kudzu start humming like that? Malik & Jamie will try to help!

A podcast within a podcast about the end of the world. The two hosts banter about the various (and numerous!) paranormal and existential crises taking place. Some are framed as listener questions, some general musings. It's swiftly paced and funny, tackling familiar horror tropes from new and sometimes silly angles, but it IS still the apocalypse. Jamie and Malik frequently check in with each other more earnestly, touching on themes of trauma and coping. I have not listened far enough to know if there's a genuine overplot, but there's plenty of emotional continuity.

Ghost Wax is a horror fiction podcast following the work of the last “reclaimer”, investigating a series of unnatural killings by raising the dead and committing their final statements to wax cylinder.

Very similar in format to TMA, Ghost Wax is a found audio podcast following Voncid, the only living person left who can communicate openly with the dead. Each episode features a new subject for him to interview, with a meta plot that kicks in fairly early and weaves through the different tales (some connected, some not).

In a city that never sleeps, the veil between waking and dreaming can fray at the edges. If you can't tell what's real anymore, you might need the services of Lucifer Kane and Brutus Feels: Paranormal Investigators. Horrors and mystery await any who listen.

A pair of paranormal investigators in modern London take on various cases, from ghosts to fae to eldritch gods. Season 1 is episodic with the relationship between the two characters the only real narrative throughline, for the most part. Season 2 is its own full arc and intentionally bizarre and harder to follow. Season 3 is back to episodic, much lighter-in-tone stories. It goes to some dark places particularly with suicide coming up a few times, and there is also a lot of drug use.

Season 2 ends the emotional arc, and season 3 is extra fun that also closes at the end. There was talk about a season 4 but unclear if it's still going to happen.
