The world will fall apart in eight days, at the hands of an impossible monster.

That is, according to a mysterious letter trusted by biologist Kieran Grimshaw, almost-PhD. To prove it, they’re on a trek across Colorado with the only person who believes them: their cousin Vic, local bike mechanic/farmer/part-time musician. But proving the apocalypse is coming isn’t the same thing as stopping it, and when the truth takes a turn towards folkloresque beasts, phantom railways, and old rivalries, the cousins realize they’re matched up against something far more than they bargained for. And every night at sunset, they can hear a train whistle.

The Sunfall Train is a full cast audio drama, emphasis on the drama: the production value is very good, and every actor is really firing on all cylinders to convince you the end of the world is nigh. There's a lot crammed into a small number of eps, with emotions very high. I'm very curious to see where this train is going.

Shelterwood: A Suburban Gothic is a 16-part Docu-Horror Podcast centered around one man’s quest to find his long-lost sister in an infinite, monster-infested suburb beyond the veil. With primary inspirations like The Black Tapes, Silent Hill 2, and Limetown, Shelterwood will be one part Gothic, one part Found Footage, and one hundred percent terrifying.

The show follows podcaster Nicholas DeRoso, who stumbles upon an endless expanse of nightmarish suburbia as he searches for his long-lost sister. Will he find her or be lost to the development beyond the veil? What other secrets does the impossible neighborhood hold?

Shelterwood is a podcast within a podcast, with a mix of live audio and the two hosts providing voiceover commentary on it. It's a good balance, allowing for the protagonist's in the moment reactions while also providing an excuse to have someone describe the things that don't show up in the audio. Like the blurb says, protagonist Nicholas slips into the sunnier, "everything is fine and wonderful here!" hyper-Americana version of Silent Hill, where nothing is more sinister than the HOA, hoping to find his sister who disappeared as a teenager.

Hi Nay, literally translated to “Hi Mom”, is a supernatural horror fictional podcast about Filipina immigrant Mari Datuin, whose babaylan (shaman) family background accidentally gets her involved in stopping dangerous supernatural events in Toronto.

Told as a series of answering machine messages left by the protagonist to her mother (and others), about the paranormal mysteries she finds herself dragged into by a pair of cops who have caught on that there are some cases they can't solve.

In this horror/fantasy serial drama, Carpenter and Faulkner, two worshippers of an outlawed god, travel up the length of their deity’s great black river, searching for holy revelations.

As their pilgrimage lengthens and the river’s mysteries deepen, the two acolytes find themselves under threat from a police manhunt, but also come into conflict with the weirder gods that have flourished in these forgotten rural territories.

From the same creator as I Am in Eskew, the show takes place in a world saturated with gods old and new. The variety in the pantheon makes for some fascinating worldbuilding, as the two main protags embark on a pilgrimage to find and possibly strengthen the remnants of their religious order. Over time it branches out to include other characters. The sound quality in season 1 is kinda rough, but it improves over time.

In The year of Enlightentment 976… Radulf Burtwine, former monk turned traveling investigator, dedicates his life to uncovering the profane secrets of a world in which viruses are gods and humanity, merely their plaything.

It has been called “Umberto Eco meets HP Lovecraft.” THORB is a horror fantasy medical mystery podcast with an aesthetic that can only be described as Occult Academia and Laboratory Judaica.

Take care dear stranger, and remember, some secrets are better left unknown.

Takes place in a completely different world from ours, where the culture is medieval, but some of the technological and medical advances are pretty incredible. Radulf Burntwine is a natural philosopher who goes from place to place solving medical mysteries. Each episode he tackles someone with a semi-familiar affliction (zombies, werewolves) but from the point of view of an academic treating symptoms rather than unraveling magic and ritual.

Ghost Wax is a horror fiction podcast following the work of the last “reclaimer”, investigating a series of unnatural killings by raising the dead and committing their final statements to wax cylinder.

Very similar in format to TMA, Ghost Wax is a found audio podcast following Voncid, the only living person left who can communicate openly with the dead. Each episode features a new subject for him to interview, with a meta plot that kicks in fairly early and weaves through the different tales (some connected, some not).

It’s a bittersweet story that explores queer identity, horror genre tropes, and finding hope in humanity’s last moments. 

A voice broadcasting into our dreams tells snippets of stories: supernatural, sometimes creepy, sometimes melancholy, from the titular Hallowoods and its unusual inhabitants. It gives off strong WTNV vibes from the start, and it isn't until you get through the first dozen eps-ish that the stories and characters start to strongly connect into an overarching story.

Like it says on the tin, Mercy is a western-themed cosmic horror adventure. The chemistry between grisled action man Saywer and his strong-willed, book-smarts co-protagonist feels immediately familiar and keeps the interactions peppy. This is a newer show still airing but one to watch.
