Question about the Moon and the Sun in the universe of FFVIII.
I am working on a project and at the moment I am trying to figure out how to draw the sky during the day...
We can see that the distance between the moon and the planet is not very far... The moon appears very big because of this and is always well visible during the day...
What I am wondering...
Shouldnt the moon be super bright because the suns light reflected on it during the day???? And dont even ask about the night sky... we saw the moon but it wasnt bright it all... the light is so dim....
Or what if the sun and the solar system the unnamed planet is in, is very weak???
I have so many questions
Another question i have is that the moon impacts the tides... if the moon is pulling the waters on the side that it is currently in.... doesnt it have to flood places that are closer to the sea surface??? Like edeas orphanage????

Changed the writing to suit the scene a little, since its no longer an info dump. Epilogue is not far behind. TBH I really didnât know how my little ficlet idea would turn out, never did something like this before. Any case, thank you all for reading! :D
PART 1 Â PART 2 Â PART 3 Â PART 4 Â PART 5 Â PART6 Â PART 7Â PART 8
Regis has seen many things in his lifetime and as King but he really thinks he has overshot his quota of gods and their shenanigans. Cor and Nyx charges past and gets sent flying back with a blast of Call of the Crosswinds.
âWhatâs the meaning of this! Etro?!â Noctis, his son, ever the eloquent one but he doesât blame him for his outrage. Now is not the time for diplomacy.
âPrompto has seen to the end of his duty. His trial completed. All who bear the mark of Gods who fail, are doomed to perish. Those who succeed however, will be granted the gift of immortality as a blessed crystal. Yet he has done it! And has far exceeded what has been expected of himâŠHe has fulfilled his calling.â
(âNo.No.No.â Oh no, Luna looks unwellâŠ)
âI will take him back to the Beyond, forever immortalised in crystal and become a new Etro.â
A blooming light, a scream of pain and crystal shards burst out from his back, a form emerges. A chrysalis for a goddess, an ephemeral phantom. Her form grows, a giant crystal figure much like the one Regis had broken as a young child he thinks. A faceless form with an armless hollowed torso and curling pieces from her spine, a mockery of wings. A disjointed bulbous lower form with Prompto entombed in the crystals of her womb. This was Etro looming before them. The All-mother of Eos, Guardian of the Beyond and what remains of her, but still nothing less then gorgeous splendour.
( Regis desperately tries not to think of the same Prompto nearly 20 years ago, a babbling, happy baby munching on his favourite chocobo plush dozing off in his lap. Now instead, lays asleep in the hands of the Goddess of Death. )
Cor is uncontrollable as he takes his katana and runs forward to attack, Nyx warping close behind, each with thundaga and firaga ready but another protect and a Tsunami pushes the fathers back in line as Regis and Clarus quickly supports them. Regis took his child back from fate but in exchange for his friendâs son⊠is there no avoiding of this spiral of death?
âEos is saved from the Starscourge! The line of royals are forever free from the will of Gods. Humanity will continue to thrive even without my crystal. Balance is restored. Things are as it should be.â Etroâs melodious voice rings, while retaliating Noctis, Gladio and Ignisâ assault. A Judgement Bolt falls, making them pull back.
Regis doesnât like this, Etro has clearly acquired similar powers of the Astrals.
âBullshit! We didnât do all this just so you can take him! PromptoâŠh-he hates being alone and Iâm not leaving him behind!â
âUnfortunately, young prince. This was the price Prompto himself has agreed upon.â
âWhat?â
âLong before all this, was a man who had lost all that he have held dear to the light of the new dawn. When he found a chance, he took it! Thus, a contract was forged. Each and every one of your lives and happiness and in exchange, for my own wish. He has paid the price repeatedly and endlessly yet you would disrespect it?âÂ
Regis canât help but find her phrasing unusual. The King canât put a finger where, yet Etroâs revelation got Ignis to halt his attacks.
âWhat-UnlessâŠNo.â
âWhat?!Specs!â
âThis is not the first time Prompto has done this, I presume.â
âNo.â
âHow many times?!â
âToo many! To change the fates of all. All of your deaths, all of your destinies, rewritten! For the better.â
âWhy! Prompto?!â Cor snarls at the goddess looming before them as she throws a Diamond Dust to push the Marshal back, the light of the dead endless dancing like a dream still.
âBefore this all began, there was no one who werenât in close view of the âAstralsâ I can use. Yet down in the depths of Shivaâs doomed landâŠthere were plenty to choose who were able to contain and hold my power, yet I saw only Prompto survived in every one.â Gralea. The lab. The experiments. Regis sees Cor and thinks back of the report of the other children, the other clones in that lab and dares not breathe.
âAnd when he finally found my tomb, I made an offer. He made his choice.â
Nyx has enough and warp strikes again, only to narrowly miss a Hellfire in the face. Luna strikes with her pole arm but narrowly avoids the Judgement casted at her as Ignis sharply pulls her to safety.
Etro sighs again,âIf you wonât see reason. Then at the very least,I shall let you see how beautiful he can become as my successor!â
The crystal womb pulses dimly and they see Etro bowing forward, merging into her chosen. Crystal pieces adorns his hair, a broken crown piece. Her marks also manifests on his face and skin, the Eyes of Etro awakens, the eye mark tattoo has fully replaced that cursed barcode, pulsing eerily, crystal claws gleaming.
Then, he warps.
Prompto was faster now, summoning crystal shards to fly at his command, his aim as fatal as he is with a gun.His spells sing effortlessly, the bursts of Slow and Stop ambushes them, the barrage of Flare and Meteor aimed at them with intent, a flick of Mega Death blows them back relentlessly. The party canât attack, wonât attack, because, how could they? Gladio canât bring himself to do anything but defend them from his Ultima casts. Clarus is busy countering the relentless barrage of crystals while Regis pulls up protect to defend them.
Luna then cries out, hoping her voice reaches Prompto. And for a moment he seems to almost falter, before he turns to attack another target.
âUnbelievable. You would actually have us pull a bloody Somnus.â ( somewhere in the back of their heads the Kings faintly hears a grunt from one of the rulers of yore ) Ardyn summons his sword and trudges forward towards the new Etro.
âWhat the fuck do you think you are doing?!ARDYN!!âNoctis tries to intercept his psychotic ancestor and the ancient King scoffs.
âPutting an end to all this farce as was intended!â He slams Noctis away while Gladio tries to pull Ardyn back, only to have him warp away from Regis and Clarusâs blocking his way.
Nyx tries to stop the mad king in a warp while Prompto throws an Apocalypse, forcing Nyx to pull back and Ardyn dodges, getting close enough to attack. Cor appears and swings his blade to get Ardyn away but not before Rakshasa hacks Prompto on his shoulder down. Prompto screams and slams his crystal claws on the nearest foe in retaliation. The crystalline nails landing into the Immortalâs side. Cor winces but manages to grab onto his sonâs arm in a death grip, nails digging into Promptoâs wrist. Nyx close behind, preventing Prompto from warping out of their grasp.
âPrompto?â
Blood flows from Promptoâs shoulder freely, as Prompto stops, looking back at Car with an empty gaze and heavy breaths. He trembles and struggles, before swiftly summoning a crystal shard into his palm and brings it down.
Cor stills.
The crystal digs in deep, Prompto had stabbed his wrist where his barcode once was, now a growing tattoo reaching across the skin of its bearer like vines, cutting right into the middle where an eye like mark resides. Etroâs voice screeching across the void of the Astral Plane. Before her Phantom bursts from his back shrieking in pain while Prompto growls, pushes the fragment in further, his lips bitten and bleeding as the 2 beings split in a violent burst of light that nearly blinds Nyx. âNow-!â He chokes out in cold sweat while leaning onto Cor and as realisation sinks in.
This is the Astral Plane. The space without time existing between the living and the dead. Etro does not exist in the living planeâŠbut here, they can kill the Gods. They can hurt her already fragile spirit. This was their only chance.
Cor releases Prompto and quickly force himself to slice his katana into where Promptoâs back and Etroâs spectral form meet, severing the the connection. Cor quickly pulls back his blade as Nyx grabs hold of Prompto while Etroâs spirit bursts away, dissolving into light that streaks across the void.
âN-not done-â Prompto gasps, choking on his coughs as the group hurry over to his side. The goddessâ voice then resounds in the hollow void.
âThey tore me apart, taking my heart, leaving me in pieces, I became a restless soul neither living or dying between realms, with only the dead by my side for so long. Unable to do anything but see the deaths of many. I was so tired.â Etroâs voice surrounds them in darkness. Her feeble attempt to become whole again in order to intervene with the Astralsâ mess and desire to give humanity hope finally coming to fruition.
.
.
.
âYou may become lost in Time. Your soul forever doomed.â
âI want to believe.â
âYouâll die.â
âI trust them.â
âYouâll hurt them.â
ââŠI know. And even if it seems impossible. I must try, for them.â
Etroâs sign etches and sears into his skin like a second brand sealing Prompto Argentumâs fate in the flow of time.
.
.
.
Etro is as cruel as she is merciful. Ardyn was the first one to know of it first hand in his madness.
He finds a dead Aldecapt on the ground and the entire Zegnatus Keep massacred by someone else other than the daemons. That was when the darkness in him began to rebel. The little chocobo Niflheim had caught and he had locked in a cage now sits casually on the throne twirling his gun. Until her cold gaze falls onto him as the hunter becomes the hunted, as she lures her intended target towards the Crystal.
âArdyn Lucis Caelum.â The goddessâ voice rings clear.
âHow-â
âYou may have salvation Oâ fallen King. Though all you need to do in return is fairly simple.âEtro lays her hand on his face as the pain sets in, the Starscourge in him screaming and dying.
âWhen the time comes. Kill me.â
âAnd h-how do I even know if you arenât unlike the damn Astrals-!?âA pause and he feels mortality creep deep into the bones.
âThats just it.âHer smile upon Prompto Leonisâ face.
âYou donât.â
And he is released from his curse just as the calvary arrives.
.
.
.
In the darkness of her temple, the memories of his failures and the deaths, all return to Prompto Leonis in a flood. A reminder of what another him in another world has set out to do in the beginning. Like a horrible deja vu and a bad trip.
âYour time is running out.â
âStill gonna give it my best shot.â
The mark of Etro burns.
.
.
.
It also turns out that they had also narrowly escape destruction of timelines with how many times they have restarted. Etro becomes concerned. Grieverâs appearance now was a paradox and meant Prompto was on his final run before he fails and turns into a daemon, forever damned in the crevices of time.
Her powers are waning, there are no more chances left. While his success means he becomes the next crystal of Etro, and she is free from her burden. But should they cut their ties at the very moment where Prompto can regain a hold of his sensesâŠthe child may stand a fighting chance.
The child may live while the God may die.
Essentially, Prompto and Etro each made a gamble for their own selfishness. And won.
.
.
.
âWhatever pieces of me that remain too lost to retrieve, gone like tiny grains of sand. They shall remain to keep Eos, my beloved star alive. Though the gift of magic granted to humanity shall leave with me, I shall never cease to exist! My ashes are in the soil, my breath with the winds, my blood in the sea. I shall remain in the beyond, awaiting to welcome you when the time comes, my children.â
âYou have helped me regain my form, my vessel. From here on, you are free from me and the curse upon the Farseers. The weak shall obey the strong. Now. Sever my final link with the living! Lay the Gods to their intended rest.â
Her original form looms over them again, this time without Prompto encased in her womb. Now safely tucked by Nyxâs side, Noctis summons Quicksilver and hands his friend his weapon back. The gun gently laid back in his palm, a warm and comforting weight.
âStupid.â Noctisâ words were without bite, endearing even. Gladios hand a comfortable presence on his shoulder and Ignisâ close behind. Prompto smiles sheepishly with Luna glowering at him in relief and angry disappointment as she caresses his face gently.
Prompto then turns his gaze at Etro sadly. The lonely goddess who sought to heal her star and bestow mankind her compassion. He remembers the same loneliness from another time, another world.
âŠWill you be alright? He wonders. After being together for so many different lifetimes, its hard to say goodbye. But he has made a promise to see to each of their chosen ends that they sought once upon a time.
They ready their weapons and gives the goddess the sending she sought now that she is whole again. When the last of her spirit fades into crystalline lights so does the Astral Plane that surrounds them in a melodious, comforting sigh.
The armiger and spells fizzles and fades out.The last of her light leaves Prompto like fireflies, and for a final time he reaches out for the fading fragments of the Goddess in farewell. The group then quickly departs from the disappearing realm through the fading portal, falling onto rubble and stone of Insomnia.
The orb then ebbs, the phantoms of the Astrals and their messengers bursts into sparks one by one into the orb, returning to the All-motherâs side. Their disappearance releases the light, the ball bursts into a harmless flare, a million stars. Or are they souls forever free? All racing across the sky and all of Eos before returning to Etroâs side with all the magic left on the planet.
And suddenly, warmth.
Dawn finally breaks. The sunlight burning delightfully on their skin. They are alive.
Also, it was implied that before Regisâ passing, Cor could use magic. So letâs take liberties with that shall we?
Now Insomnia, Tenebrae and all of Eos are ready to defy fate.
PART 1 Â Â PART 2 Â PART 3 Â PART 4Â Â PART 5Â PART6
(crossover of FF lores ahead in this AU.OOC plus plotholes  are all on me.)
- No matter how many years it has been, Clarus will never not be amazed at Corâs prowess in battle.Sure, he has seen and fought with the man countless times. He himself also a veteran of war.Yet in their motley crew, they all begrudgingly admit that their runt is a genius in melee and magic. He took to Regisâ magic as well as the Kingsglaive do.Â
This time, watching him fight, is a marvel. Griever was no ordinary beast, casting spells and attacking in calculated moves. Yet Cor compensates with his speed and dexterity, and unsurprisingly, at playing dirty. That two gunshots under its wing grounding the beast looks nasty. Cor often says that if it works, it bloody works. Everything goes on the battlefield.(Cid used to give Cor shit for that during spars though.)
-If Clarus and Regis notice how deathly silent Glaive Ulric is for a while now, watching the fight intensely, they smartly kept quiet about it.
-Although it goes unsaid, Griever is obviously pulling his punches. This must not be his full capabilities or if not, the beast is lacking in something. He gets weaker as time goes which Cor notices as well. They are playing a game of stamina now clearly. Eventually, in a final effort, Griever amasses energy and aims at Cor.Â
What does the runt do?Â
Charges in and slides under Griever, sending Nyxâs Kukri under its jaw and twists.Grieverâs pain shrieking into their ears as Cor dodges Grieverâs backhand counter away.Kukri in hand, Katana in another, its close, their Marshall nearing his limit much like his enemy.
-âO.M.G.What. Is.THAT?â Oh, Prompto and Luna arrived. And if his face is any indication, Prompto is not processing any of this well.Luna is not fairing better either.
As suddenly as it had started, Grieverâs laugh echoes loudly.âLittle lion, you have proven your worth.âÂ
A push and a flap, Griever hovers for a moment, dropping a Quake and circles the Tower that began to shake (Again? Really?) âYou may leave from whence you came.âAnd he disappears amongst the stormy clouds.
Dismissed. Just like that. Rude.
Yet they have no time to spare but head straight for the arched portal. Nyx pulling the exhausted Cor along as everyone makes a dash to the portal while the Tower begins to crumbleâŠ
-âŠAs they find themselves pleasantly tossed out of Costlemarkâs door in a flash and slams straight into the other party from the Tempering Grounds.Â
Even with multiple accounts, Noctis and Gladio are still sceptical about a giant flying lion. Ardyn looks amused. Glaive Ostium looked as if he deems everyone in this group is nuts. And he isnât wrong to be fair.Â
Nyx and Prompto spares a potion for Cor, looking tired but Clarus is know the little shit is being smug that he had the last blow on Griever. A son and a husband have mellowed out the man but under that stoic-ness, is still the tiny angry ball of fire that called Regis a dumbass in the face.Â
- If he had not tried to break into Corâs office for his secret alcohol stash that summer night, Regis and himself probably would never have found out their runt had found someone, let alone married in secret. The shock and horror and the trauma. Actually, he was more surprised they hid it for so many years considering how sickly sweet they can be if you know where to squintâŠ
-The contradiction in the man though still baffles Clarus to this day, especially how gently and careful he treats his relationship.
(âYou both donât fight?â âNo.We certainly do.â âLies! I donât see it.â âJust because you donât see it doesnât mean we donât have disagreements. We just donât let stupid things fester till the next morning.â âOh?â âWe are soldiers who might not see tomorrow, why should we be childish?Besides, thereâs still Prompto to think about.â ââŠâ âThatsâŠunexpectedly mature of you Cor.ââIndeed, oh my, Clar! Quick! make a note we must commemorate this day!â ââŠYet I am certainly not above regicide so sincerely, fuck you Regis.Fuck you too Clarus.â)
-âMy heart, is this the time you let me into any family secrets you forgot to share before our vows as Life Partners?â Nyx asks, not even hiding his smirk. Cor return that with a quirk of his eyebrow, challenging him to try. Prompto smartly turns around to be busy elsewhere. The young man knows he isnât needed here.
-The ones that arrived from the Tempering Grounds were evidently successful (âWas easy enough, we just let Ardyn do the talking. Gilgamesh and his dead folks will come at Etroâs command.â)Â
Its also clear they are cutting it close as they receive news from Monica. Ifrit and daemons have congregated at Insomniaâs borders. Bahamut awaits in the capital.
- They gather their men in Leide (âHello again Cid!â) and whatever forces from Accordo, Tenebrae and Niflheim that have arrived as well. Including those who were willing to come from Galahd. A sizeable army even after leaving some to protect cities like Lestallum and Galdin. More people have joined the Kingsglaive during their time away, growing their numbers in ranks as well despite the earlier betrayal of those loyal to Drautos.Â
Unconventional work ethics and eloping with their youngest brother aside, Nyx took over the leadership of a broken Kingsglaive after the Fall while recovering so smoothly like fish to water, resolving a lot of the internal conflicts and dispute with the Crown. The old Shield have to admit and give credit where credit is due. Glaive Altius also proved she was a force to be reckoned with to the traitors they had captured.
( Clarus also caught wind of their men, both Kingsglaive and Crownsguard, having some weird truce due to their divisionsâ âjoint marriageâ. The gossip had given him such a whiplash, that he needed to excuse himself and leaves to laugh his guts out. Regis and Cid NEEDS to hear this. )
Surprisingly, a number of Niflheim refugees who once defected into the safety of the Crown City volunteered too. They even took a risk and manage to do recon in Insomnia and report back. Seems like underground tunnels are a thing and they also found a weird magitek under their ruins. What the hell..?
Others have begun preparation to infiltrate the daemon horde to allow the main army enter and take down Ifrit before Bahamut tries anything else. With Prompto receiving most of Etroâs powers, their connection to the Kings magic grows stronger and brighter.Iris and Crowe have shaped up the teams well while they are gone too.
-Ignis was fussing over Promptoâs new uniform now that he was relying more on magic than just his guns, all meant to protect spellcasters. Noctis and Gladio simply watches on, basking in their friendâs discomfort in âfancy clothesâ while Lunaâs dogs patters around him excitedly. Poor Prompto is still adjusting to being called âLeonisâ by people, but the boy seems pleased to finally use his true family name after so long.Â
It was much later before the boys finally noticed the weird magitek the recon team had found, and Prompto stops before it.
âThatsâŠan ancient weapon.Used by Solheim to kill the gods.â Prompto suddenly points out, his Eyes bright and studying the contraption. Everyone halted what they are doing at that. Pelna and his baby Niflheimian glaives who found it were suddenly ready to throw ( or as the kids say, yeet ) themselves with the magitek out of Lucis. Though Etroâs vessel just shrugs off.âCanât hurt a goddess who is already dead on this realm.â
And that was that. WellâŠguess they have another weapon to go up against the Draconian then if they manage to figure out how it works.Â
- The other Astrals? Clarus really doesnât care at all.His duty is to the Crown.the Long Night has already begun, daemons are growing in numbers. He barks an order, getting everyone to fall into line, letting Regis address the joined forces of Eos. Prompto breathes and exhales, allowing Etroâs light to dance, her power a warning to the encroaching darkness.
-Who would have thought that the tiny baby Cor had smuggled out of Gralea during his mission would end up being a goddessâ vessel? The same kid who somehow ended up befriending Noctis, Ignis and Gladio despite being kept away from the Crown by his overprotective father. Prompto was the sort that prefer to avoid conflict, quiet mostly, hardly crownsguard material but let it be known that he is fierce when he has to.
-( He remembers that high school kidnapping incident and oh boy, why did he doubt that the son of Cor and Nyx to be anything else but a terror when needed? )Â
-Clarus has seen many things but fact is stranger than fiction he suppose as he watches the eerie lights flicker around him. With a closing statement,Regis steps back, the powers of the kings materialises and in a show of morale, the army cheers. They are as ready as they can be, finally, they can reclaim Insomnia.Â
Someone wants a fight with Cor. I told you guys this was indulgent.Â
BUT, thereâs a reasoning for this twist I swear (at least my 1am self does).
PART 1 Â Â PART 2 Â PART 3 Â PART 4Â Â PART 5
(possible crossover of FF lores ahead in this AU.)
- After making sure the Kingsglaive in Galahd are battle ready to protect the people, the Galahadians sends them off with a small dinner celebration as a small reprieve from the madness. If anything, they seem excited to find their goddess amongst them once more once they figure out their purpose in Galahd.(âOur festivals are full of light and people souls are bright! With the Kingsglaive back, the daemons will not dare!â)Â
Ignis has never really been out of Lucis since his move from Tenebrae as a child. The new burst of sounds and culture makes him curious as the dinner goes on.
- Nyx and Cor amongst the people watching the people coo over Prompto (they gave them garlands and a sashes of galahd ribbons, to show they are welcome as family of their tribesman, especially Prompto now that he is seen as Etroâs beloved Farseer ). And he will be hard pressed to deny that the domesticity was absolutely sweet.Â
Luna singing and dancing and thriving in life and joy among people, something denied to her for so very long. Noctis and Gladio trying to enjoy everything while not being too focused on the food. Ardyn in the corner being strangely subdued as he immerses himself in the feeling of festivity. Regis deep in discussion with Clan leaders and Clarus partaking in simple efforts in reconnecting with the common folk. There is hope it seems for a better future he thinks.Â
- When they finally depart Galahdâs shores, they are re-energised to focus on strategy. When Prompto suddenly makes a request. He remembers that Gladio has already taken his trial with Gilgamesh (despite Clarusâs violent disagreement initially, that was certainly a trip that Ignis wonât be forgetting anytime soon. The old shield proved that even with one arm he is still a force to be reckoned with.)Â
A land full of restless souls and one undead shield, he wishes they will answer her call, and seems almost rude to pull them into a battle to the death without asking. Thatâs just how Prompto is. Ardyn surprisingly volunteers, and after much discussion, Noctis, Gladio and Libertus are tasked to follow the ancient King on this errand.Â
âReuniting with an old acquaintance! How splendid, isnât it, my dear nephews?I, personally, canât wait!âÂ
(Noctis must finally face the music, and try to get along as Regis visibly tries to rein in his cringe.)
- Costlemark seems like daunting to take on with so little preparation. But they figured with Regisâ and Promptoâs magic and range, along with Cor and Nyxâs speed, Clarusâ strength(bless the Shields, they certainly Iive up to their name and and duty) while Ignis and Luna acting as support seem sufficient. (âWe can also practice your new abilities while we are at it!âLuna beams at Prompto, who needs to get a hang of his new arsenal of spells.Luna looks delighted with her project.Good for her.Less so for sweet, dear, Prompto.)
-While waiting to arrive at their destination, the crew splits up for some personal time. Always a stickler for details (in Noctisâ words), Ignis seeks out Cor to relay some reports from the Insomnia Army, but stops when he realised Prompto and Cor are having a chat.At least, he thought it was Prompto.
-âYour Grace.â
âHow did you know?âEtro smiles, her Eyes bright.Cor doesnât give her an answer.
âCor Leonis. I never thanked you for saving Prompto. You did well.â
âI would have done it with or without fate.It was only right.â
âYet you have no idea how many times I have tried for this result.â
Ignis doesnât like the implication.Â
Silence befalls between them.
âMagic may not have remained in your bloodline any longer from one of my incarnationsâŠbut you became a guardian to your kingdom and your loved ones as your forebears once did with all the fierceness and heart you bear.I am impressed. Descendant of sorceress and knight, you are a worthy protector indeed.â
âI thank you for the kind words.â Cor does not acknowledge her revelation. At least not outwardly.
âAs thanks,I shall gift you a premonition.A fair warning. When you reach the tower of my old castle⊠an old acquaintance awaits, he wishes to have a reunion with familiar blood.â
And with that Etro leaves, letting Cor catch Prompto as he collapsed. He wasâŠasleep?
-Ignis seems stuck in revealing himself eavesdropping or helping his friend until he notices Nyx in the corner (Â wait, when was he there? ), and gestures the advisor kindly to turn and leave. The report can wait a little longer.
-The advisor remembered how he had went to look up on Promptoâs file after seeing Noct hanging around this new classmate so much.It was his job.Yet he found a locked citizen file and made an enquiry to The King and Marshal which earned him a chuckle from his majesty and a sigh from the Immortal. Before he was dismissed with the order to not worry and they are aware.
âLet the boys live a little.â He should have known something was off there and then.A terrible oversight. But not a mistake. Prompto have proven to be one of the sweetest person to grace them, always thoughtful and keeping Noctis grounded but in a positive way. As Gladio liked to say âa walking sunshineâ.Â
-( Ignis will never find out that Regis had laughed in Corâs face after they heard the boys were up to something innocent and stupid, told him it was what he got for removing the sweet innocent babies from their playdate so early on and never bringing âPompomâ around for the prince anymore.New friends meant making trouble together and teen friends are much more troublesome compared to baby friends by Regisâ logic .âIf only they had grown up together!Oh!The shame!Shame!âââŠâ)
- They part ways after dropping the group off at the ruined tower, with plans to reconvene at Costlemark later. The last time they were here, they found a Jabberwock and the lost royal arm but soon after Prompto begun to have seizuresâŠpossibly from reacting to whatâs under the tower now they think about it.
-After gruelling puzzle solving and clearing the path of daemons, they reached the end where Regis seems awed by the old magitek for Solheim.(âCertainly an amazing tower!Bar the residents of courseâŠAlthough I half expected a beast to great us,ââThere was one, your Majesty.ââAh.Pity we had missed the party then.âââŠâ)
-It was dead end.At least until Prompto made a round and gathers energy in his palm.
âGet back!âÂ
The rest obeys the heads up as he tosses the spell into the ground.Ultima certainly is destructive, but achieves its purpose as a room of dim crystals greats them amongst some ruins and arches.
âWokay, I nearly overdid it there, I think? WellâŠtime to get to work!âPrompto hops down and reaches for the dim crystals and begun his rite in absorbing Etroâs power. Everyone else stays on guard and wait. Until Nyx realises something.
-âHeyâŠhow are we getting out later? Our elevator hasâŠpoofed.âThis has everyoneâs attention. Except Regis, he shrugs and figure they can probably warp his way up.Probably? That was the ideaâŠuntil the room began to quake.
(âThat wasnât me right??ââFocus Prompto!â)Â
A roar.
(âOh dear, there really is a beast in this tower-ââRegis.With all due respect.Shut the fuck up.â)
And they hear a voice.
-âWho disturbs her rest?Who dares claim what is left of her brokenness lost in Time?â
-âIt is Etro herself who seeks what is hers! Would you grant us mercy?â Dear Luna, blessed Luna, tries and pacify whoever had made the demand. There would be no reply for a long while.
-âYou speak the truth.Very well.I will grant you passage but-â of course thereâs a catch.â-I ask you to indulge me.â
âWhat do you seek?âRegis asks.Â
âA contest, of strength! I see amongst youâŠA knight? No you are neitherâŠthe blood diluted and long gone. Her incarnation has left nothing I see, even in another time. But nevertheless, a familiar soul since time immemorial. Will you, guardian, take my challenge?â
The hair on Ignisâ neck stands, he knows who that is. Etroâs warning ringing in his mind.Â
-âDo you swear to provide us passage to safety regardless?â
âCertainly.On my honour as Guardian.â
âCor!No!âClarus hisses, this is like 30 years ago all over again damn it.Â
âCor, yes.âThe Marshall readjusts his katanas.
(Ignis simply gives in and pinches the bridge of his nose here. This has Prompto written all over.)Â
Regis and Clarus turns to Nyx in exasperation.Â
-Their Captain simply offers his Kukris up to his husband.
âStay sharp.â
âI will.âÂ
And in the corner of their eyes an archway glows, the sign is obvious. Cor strides forward without another word, while his two old friends sputters and hurry after their wayward brother.Nyx follows closely behind, because his charges are all reckless.Luna gestures for Ignis to follow, and that they will catch up since Prompto is done with his rite, just needing to gather himself together abit.Â
He is hesitant but obliges. He trusts Lunaâs judgement.
- Beyond the arch, was a different dimension, the atmosphere feels different. Its as if they are on the top of the tower in its original form in another time, amongst the stormy sky and clouds. The smell of ozone thick and unnatural. There was no one.
âShow yourself.â Cor calls out and a large shadow emerges and lands before them, rears back and r o a r s.
- Ignis will pay all the crowns and gil he has for Noctis and Gladio to see the gobsmacked faces of their fathers now.
After he finishes his own inner conundrum that is.
A dark feline creature with a white mane and crimson crown with bladed feathery wings. The power it exudes is putting his senses on edge. This is no ordinary monster.Neither divine nor evil.
-âWill you not grant me your name, beast?â Cor and the creature begin to circle each other, calculating their foe.Â
âI have no name.I am but one who grieves for what is lostâŠyesâŠI believe in whatâs left of my memory, they had once called meâŠGriever.â
The legendary beast then lunges and Cor strikes. The Trial of the Guardian has begun.
So hereâs an FFVIII question for anyone who wants to answer:
Why, since Lagunaâs Sorceress Knight movie was shot in Trabia, was there a ruby dragon anywhere in the area? At least when Squall & co are running around, the Nortes Mountains (part of Esthar) are the northernmost point you can find ruby dragons on the map, which hate ice and snow and, you would think, wouldnât travel north over a whole other set of mountains (Vienna) just to crash a movie set.Â
(And for the record, Iâm looking for worldbuilding/plothole-filler sorts of answers, not game dev meta--Iâm sure the technical reason was âIt looked cool/we made the scene before drawing the monster maps.â But thatâs boring. Give me a reason. Tell me a story! Iâve always been curious about this weird inconsistency.)
