This man cannot people even if he tries. He's a lot more empathic and thoughtful than he may seem at first glance, but that does not by any means translate into his interactions with others. Honestly if he considers you a friend that's already a miracle in and of itself.
So laying your head on his lap? That's pushing it. He'll just ignore you and push you away if you try to get anywhere near him.
Unless he has a soft spot for you
In which case if you insist, he might eventually agree, albeit hesitantly.
He is awkward and stiff. Honestly not the best cushion. But he's entertaining your request so that has to mean something, right?
He won't ever let you do this in front of the others though. Only when it's the two of you someplace private. But of course the others always find you two somehow. Zell never shuts up about it. Squall hates it.
He'll just sit there and cross his arms while he waits. "Are you done yet?" He may seem disgruntled but he never forces you to get up sooner than you have to.
A solid 7/10. Good support. Not very receptive to whatever your issue is, but his presence makes you feel safe.
Zell Dincht
It's definitely a lot easier to get this guy to agree. Even if he'll find it a bit weird, he'll do it since you're a friend.
Not the best cushion because he keeps fidgeting around. He's just not the kind of guy to sit still, but he'll try his best to do so until you feel better. He'll also just ramble on and on and easily entertain a conversation with you.
The other students will definitely tease him about it but he'll shrug it off, saying he's just helping out a friend. That's what a good friend does!
But if he has a crush on you... Hoo boy
When he crushes, he crushes hard
He's not exactly discreet about his excitement to have his crush's head on his lap. A very "WHOA! REALLY??" kind of reaction.
He fidgets even more if that's even possible. Can't sit still, won't sit still. And he just won't shut up. And he'll also tell everyone.
So that's either really annoying or really endearing. Up to you.
Doesn't really matter when or where it is, he'll let you do it if you ask him, especially if you look tired or upset.
6/10. Amazing emotional support, but he really needs to learn to sit down.
Irvine Kinneas
Your go-to man.
Out of the group he's probably the most empathic about your situation. He's a self-proclaimed loner so he has lots of time to mull over his emotions and understands the stress you're going to.
He'll agree without a moment's hesitation. Anywhere, anytime. If Squall or anybody else scolds you for slacking off he'll shoo them and sit there until you feel better.
He's the kind of guy who'll speak to you in a low, calm voice or not speak at all, if that's what you prefer. If you're okay with it he'll play with his hair a bit to soothe you.
But of course, this is Irvine so he'll definitely throw in some flirty remarks and try to fluster you. The kind of silly things that'll make you giggle, so whether you return his affections or not he doesn't mind. He's just happy you're cheering up a bit.
Honestly if you're comfortable with it he'll probably ask for you to return the favour every now and again, when he needs it.
If he has a crush on you the hints of care in the way he holds you and shushes to you will be so obvious.
He'll probably brag about it to your friends and just isn't shy to admit it.
Solid 10/10. Very comfy and good emotional support.
Laguna Loire
You could be a complete stranger and he wouldn't turn you down.
This guy just has such a heart of gold. Anyway he can help others, he will. Even more so if it's someone he holds dear.
The request will probably stump him for a moment, he'll have a sort of 'uh, ok' kind of reaction, but afterwards you're good to go. It's not that he finds your request odd, it's just that he'd never think someone would go to him for that kind of thing.
He's also really good at hugs btw
He manages to sit still but can't keep his mouth short. He'll just ramble on and on and on, and he'll get embarrassed if you ask him to be quiet for a minute because he'll feel like he's talking too much.
But his stories are welcomed, if anything. They're silly and fun and keep your mind off whatever's bothering you.
If he has a crush on you, he'll ramble even more and his leg cramps will definitely act up. Poor guy.
He'll probably ask you if you want to go grab a snack or go outside a bit after a couple minutes. While he isn't as hyperactive as Zell, you can't expect the guy to sit there for half an hour either.

Hi Lunamanar! How are you? Can I ask you a FF8 related question? What/How does Squall behave when he is jealous with anyone who flirts or attempts to flirt with Rinoa? What do you think?
Iām...extremely tired, haha. But I imagine everyone is, right now. Iām sorry Iām getting to this late, and sorry to all the other questions I will also get to late. Iām doing my best, but Iāve had very, very little energy left over for social media (or Internet of any kind) these days.Ā
To the question about Squall...in my opinion, jealousy isnāt...really...a thing, with him. I donāt want to say he never gets jealous about anything, but I donāt think it affects him the way it affects most people. I wrote a long essay a while back about how I think Squall processes emotion, and I think that makes concepts like jealousy somewhat alien to him, because jealousy is a precognitive emotion (that is, youāre anticipating your experiences; in this case someone else taking from you or having something that you donāt, whether thatās a material possession, attention from someone you like, experiences you want to have, prestige or respect, etc), and Squall tends to feel things in retrospect rather than in-the-moment. I also donāt think he compares himself to other people very much, in part because heās, again, not given to presentiment and doesnāt tend to directly associate the success of others with his failures. His self-esteem, tentative as it is, is a pretty myopic entity (and I think for that reason, people tend to misunderstand his rivalry with Seifer...but thatās a whole other subject on its own).Ā
And because of that, I donāt think he would see someone flirting with Rinoa and think āsheās going to leave me because she likes them better and thatās going to suck oh no I have to do something to stop it.ā Because it wouldnāt have anything to do with him. He wouldnāt be able to make that kind of connection unless and until it resulted in Rinoa breaking up with him, which would prompt him to reminisce and try to figure out why. Then, maybe, he might feel something negative toward them, but at that point I wouldnāt call it jealousy. Just resentment (and thatās only assuming the breakup was on bad terms, which...again, I have thoughts about but itās another subject on its own, but the TL;DR of it is I think any breakup between Squall and Rinoa would be relatively amicable).Ā
So I think the reality is actually that Rinoaās gregarious and sometimes flirtatious nature wouldnāt in and of itself be that much of a problem for him. I think, actually, his lack of reaction to it might be more of a problem for Rinoa, who would learn pretty quickly that she can be her entire self around other people without having to worry about upsetting Squall, and in fact, flirting to make Squall jealous wouldnāt be an effective way of teasing him. The fact Squall wouldnāt jump in the ring to fight over her isnāt a reflection of how much he values her, though, and if someone were actually creeping on her, he wouldnāt hesitate to chase them off. But that would have more to do with the fact they were being a creep.Ā
TL;DR - I think the way Squall processes his emotions and sense of self-worth makes it difficult for him to experience jealousy the same way most people do, if he does at all. I donāt think other people flirting with Rinoa--even if she reciprocated--would upset him in and of itself. For Squall, thereās not a problem until thereās a problem, and he doesnāt tend to proactively compete with anyone unless they issue a direct challenge or present an evident threat.Ā
EDIT: Ironically, I think maybe the person Squall comes closest to being jealous of is Laguna, but itās a very complicated sort of jealousy thatās wrapped up in confusion, shame and a bit of plain old disgust, so...thereās a lot to talk about, there.Ā
I spend entirely too much time amusing myself with the idea of bite bugs, their silly name, their sillier appearance, their annoying ubiquitousness, and the fact they āfartā out of their mouths.Ā
They seem like the kind of cockroach-like pests that must cause all manner of problems for people. Not super dangerous to anyone but children but absolutely irritating. Theyāre large enough to carry away any small object that isnāt bolted down (and maybe some that are), so I imagine they steal things a lot. I also imagine they nest in highly inconvenient places, like chimneys or within machinery.Ā
And they smell. Their signature bug-farts are utterly nasty and hard to wash off. Theyāre big stinky thieving flying beetle-hornet-skunks and no one wants to be their friend.Ā
Anyone else think entirely too much about bite bug ecology, and if so, what are your takes?
Do you think movie theaters are a big thing in the FF8 world? How well do you think Laguna's movie did? I think it'd be kinda funny if Siefer was one of the only people who saw it.
I always imagined that movie theaters as we think of them classically (single screens with drawn curtains, not the huge multicinemas we have now) were quite popular in Timber. I donāt know, maybe itās the slightly steampunk atmosphere to the place. And maybe one BIG, high-tier theater somewhere on the main drag of Deling City. I can see more corporatized, modern cinemas here and there in recreational areas like Balamb, or the coastal section of Dollet.Ā I do imagine that home theaters are quite the fad in Esthar, though. And I have an inkling of who got them startedā¦Iā¦donāt actually imagine Lagunaās movie did too well. Possible it made it into some small theaters here and there, but otherwise was relegated to the equivalent of late-night B-movie grunge of the sort youād watch in the lateĀ ā90s when you were awake at 3am in a bout of insomnia. I kinda think of The Sorceressās Knight fell into the same bucket of guiltily enjoyable tripe as Carnosaur 2. So, something a young Seifer would eat right up, hahaha~I sorta doubt he saw it in theaters the first time, though. Iām trying to remember where I got this impression, but I think he saw it when he was little? So maybe right after he came to Garden. Unless someone had the patently awful idea to take an 8-10 year old Seifer to the Balamb cinemaā¦he probably found it in a pile of DVDs (or whatever; we know they used some kind of optical discs, since they exist in theĀ āChange Discā screen in the original PS1 and PC versions) and watched it during some training class that got canceled due to rainā¦um, did I just date myself? Like they did with us in phys ed when I was in school, haha. I bet he didnāt really *watch* it that much, though. He probably spent a lot of time standing up and mimicking Lagunaās actions, nearly stepping on other kids who were trying to watch it while fighting his invisible dragons.Ā But obviously, he became enamored with it. I donāt get the impression Garden would have allowed too many sedentary activities like movie-watching, and would have relegated it toĀ ātime where we really need the kids to sit still in one place while we take care of administrative dutiesā and maybe some entertainment for anyone stuck sick or injured in the infirmary. So it probably was a movie that was played repeatedly, enough for him to memorize the motions. Maybe he saw it in the theater if they were showing double-features in a cheap cinema somewhere.Ā Ā
inconsequentia replied to your photo: āThere they are⦠10-years-later Seifer Almasy and Trinity Conner.Ā At...ā:
Aaaaa you make me want to draw my ff8 oc. I haven't thought about her in years. I wonder how she and Trin would get along since she was a Galbadian transfer from Balamb (specialized in mobile combat on a motorcycle and had a REALLY OVERKILL gunblade lmfao). Of course, in my RP the world went to shit Mad Max style and she ended up running a gang rrfff.
Trin? Wow, you gave her a nickname that doesnāt sound odd :D thank you so much for that ;)
And I think Trin would get along well with your OC ;) She loves her motorbike, too, though she is not that skilled in mobile combat. She like race and is not really risk averse when it comes to speeding over narrow streets ;)Ā
And she has aĀ āfoldableā orĀ ācollapsibleā Katana... it can be folded in to fit into a pocket and she can extend the blade if needed for combat.Ā
In her original story she was a Galbadia transfer to Balamb, too XD Though I think if I really intend to work on something with her she is a Galbadia Seed who went to Balamb because of a joined mission. She intended to go back to Balamb. Nobody told her this was going to be a permanent arrangement.Ā
