I got a Final Fantasy VI plot bunny, of all things. I decided to just go for it, and write it. I got a little bit in a notebook today and it's going well so far! I came up with better words and phrases when I typed it up too. 💖
It even has a working title.
Why We Persist
Picture this.
It's the beginning of the World of Ruin arc. Edgar washes up on a deserted island, but he's not alone. Sabin is with him. He's injured, so Edgar has to brave the elements and make sure they're both taken care of. As if all that isn't enough, there’s a living Esper lurking somewhere on the island, and it’s quite angry…
The twins will have to work together if they want to survive, and see if there’s a home to go back to.
(I’m only putting these guys in a Situation because they’re two of my oldest Blorbos. Nothing brings family together like a life or death situation, am I right? <3)
Real talk: I hope I get far with this one. I can already picture the final battle with the Esper in my mind. My working title comes from its question.
“Humans whose fire has burned this world to ash, why do you persist?”
For the last 2 years, I have kept a media journal of all the various video games I played in the year, and my thoughts fresh from when I finished it. Around this time last year, I actually made a tier list of the game. And I decided to do it again.
This is not meant to be an objective review of these games. This list is based exclusively on how much I enjoyed the game, and even then, I wouldn't even really say I disliked playing a game until tier D. So not even S is a 100% endorsement. It's just the games that made me personally go "Damn, that was really really good!!!" as I watched the credits role.
If you want to know my more detailed thoughts, send me an Ask.
And if you haven't seen it, here is my other year's tier list: 2024
i have enraged the fandom 🤷🏻♀️

It's not like i discovered ff6 yesterday but...I have to say that Terra's esper form is giving me gender envy. It's 100% the feral fairy look
Jealous of these claws and sharp teeth
I am replaying FFVI for the millionth time, but the first time in a while, and the opening bit? Chilling and depressing.
Everyone in town is hiding from the Empire's invading forces. Not just soldiers. Not even just Magitek soldiers. Three Magitek riders, including the Empire's secret weapon who uses ancient magical forces that nobody really understands. And they've given people magic before, but Terra was born with it. Is that common knowledge? Even if it's not, she's a terrifying force of nature.
Biggs and Wedge are responsible for her, and they're pretty confident that they have full control over her... but she could cast Fire on them any time she wanted to. No one is there to help them. But it'll be fine, right? Everyone told them it would be fine.
They beat a few guards, no match for their Magitek weapons, just mow them all down. The guards know it's hopeless, but they keep trying. Then they run into Ymir (Whelk), and they recognize that this isn't just some cave creature. It was raised and trained by the citizens. People have cared for it. Probably the same people who were just murdered in the streets. Does it know that the humans who fed it are dead? Did they treat it well? It doesn't matter, it's dead too now.
Then the esper itself - It was supposed to be a simple mission to retrieve it. It was supposed to be dead. And then this girl who's been completely docile all this time, who they've been assured is under complete control... walks up to the esper and starts... communing with it somehow. What's going on? Too late, Biggs and Wedge have been blasted into oblivion by what was supposed to be a dead rock.
Terra is there for this, and then she has to deal with the slave crown being removed, her whole world changing, people helping her, people hunting her, having no idea who she is or who to trust, being told to run, being chased, falling...
Then the flashback. The bit where Kefka places the crown on her head and checks that she's obedient is disturbing, but then she remembers being taken into battle against Imperial soldiers, and killing them. They were on the same side. Did they know they were being used as target practice for the Empire's new weapon? Was this a punishment for something, or were they chosen randomly?
Anyway, I love this game. :)
