The impressive fern Cibotium schiedei (Mexican tree fern) is found growing in the damp cloud and montane forests of southeastern Mexico. This tropical species slowly reaches a height of 3–5 metres with a trunk covered with hairs. Here it is a feature of the Cambridge Botanic Garden Fern House, UK.

In the Fern House of Cambridge Botanic Garden, UK, there were some great examples of Huperzia species (fir clubmoss, fir moss, fire clubmoss, tree moss) including Huperzia megastachya, Huperzia squarrosa and Huperzia hamiltonii. These epiphytic plants need high humidity and bright but indirect light.

The Huperzia species (fir clubmoss, fir moss, fire clubmoss, tree moss) were very popular when I shared them on Sunday 17 October 2021 so on a recent visit to Cambridge Botanic Garden, UK, I took some more images. The Fern House provides the humid atmosphere and indirect light these epiphytic plants need.

In the damp atmosphere of Fern House of Cambridge Botanic Garden, UK, the Platycerium bifurcatum (staghorn fern, antelope ears, elkhorn fern) is developing new fronds. This evergreen, epiphytic fern has heart-shaped sterile fronds that secure the plant and grey-green, arching, fertile fronds that project like antlers.

The slow growing tropical fern Cibotium schiedei (Mexican tree fern) can have fronds that grow up to 2m long. This specimen was growing in the Fern House of Cambridge Botanic Garden, UK, where fronds have been used to make impressions in the concrete flooring.
