Well, he doesn’t know her -- the only widow he would claim to know was Nat -- but the flash of her face was enough to bring back memories of the Red Room. To change the direction of his steps and set him trailing behind her.

                “no,  we’re  not.  not  until  someone  drowns  and  then  i’m  allowed  to  go  in.”  into  the  swimming  pool  that  is,  where  he’s  working  as  a  lifeguard  for  the  summer.  it’s  noisy  as  hell  with  all  the  kids  screaming  and  his  shoulders  are  burning  too,  because  he  thinks  he’s  immune  to  the  sun,  now  he’s  just  getting  grumpy  even  while  he’s  in  his  favorite  element.  around  swimming  and  sun,  things  he’s  usually  in  the  mood  for.  maybe  staying  up  too  late  was  a  stupid  idea  too,  it  definitely  was.  “you  wanna  be  my  guest?”  smirking,  head  jutting  towards  the  deep  end  while  he  cracks  open  the  soda  can  in  his  hand.  eyes  staring  down  at  her  with  amusement  at  the  thought  of  throwing  her  in.

should he be worried? scared, even? perhaps, but he isn't. for some reason, he's not that intimidated by her, it's weird. usually --- and it's marked as usually, he would say something snarky, but he won't. steve just chuckles a little bit, crossing his arms over his chest, as if he hasn't been hurt before. "hurt, like emotionally or physically?" he goes, brows raised as he looks over at the female, head cocked to the side, curious. it's not that he hasn't been mentally hurt, he totally has, but that's something to discuss later on, even so.
