âFussy Bath Timeâ [Modern AU Drabble]
Time to bathe baby Lucina. Modern AU. (612 words)
âOne..two..three!â
In she went, crying and screaming with all her might in fear of the unknown.  The bathwater, not even a foot in depth, was absolutely terrifying to the little girl even after her mother placed her into what Chrom called âthe little princessâ floating palaceâ (even if it wasnât necessarily floatingâŚ)  But with a few calm hushes and a squeaky rubber crab, the baby calmed down enough to keep her parents from going deaf. Â
âEvery time,â Chrom sighed, âyouâd think by now sheâd be more comfortable with being in water.â
âGive her time, Chrom,â Robin assured him, âIâd rather have her fighting us than what you apparently did as a little kid, according to what your sister told me.â
âLissa wasnât even born for that.â
âWell she heard it from Frederick, who heard it from Emmeryn.â
ââŚ.fair enough.â  He went back to squeaking the crab to Lucinaâs delight, who seemed to ignore the fact that her mother had been rubbing shampoo into her short, curly, blue hair.  âDo the thing.â
 âThe thing?â
 ââŚCâmon, Robin, you knowâŚâ
 She chuckled, âOh, that? Alright.â
Chrom took his phone out immediately to get a shot of his daughter with a soapy blue mohawk.  Â
âFinally, I could get a shot of that.âÂ
âWill that be your new wallpaper?â she asked curiously while carefully rinsing their daughterâs head.Â
âWell, I mean, youâre my wallpaperâŚ.but Luci can be my lock screen.âÂ
And with a few clicks, the time read â6:00 pmâ in white text right above a very confused-looking child with the silliest hairstyle.  Chrom couldnât be more proud. Â
âGetting all clean~â Robin sang, âAll clean, all clean~ because spaghetti in the bed is a no-no~âÂ
âYouâre so cute,â Chrom muttered, âI love you.âÂ
âAhahaâŚAre you talking to me, or to Lucina?âÂ
Truth be told it was her, but Lucina always tended to nod her head when Robin sang, as if she were dancing to an unheard beat. Â That in itself was something to gush over.Â
âYouâre both adorable and my world.â He said with a reassuring kiss to Robinâs cheek, âEven when youâre both covered in spaghetti.âÂ
âGod, did she really fling some at my face?âÂ
He licked his lips playfully, âYep. Still good, though.âÂ
Robin splashed a bit of water at him in defiance, and even Lucina followed her mother by smacking her hand against the surface of her tiny, soapy pool.Â
âTwo against one, I see.â Chrom huffed, âWellâŚyouâre wearing a white dress shirt, with a spaghetti stain mind you, and sheâs a baby soâŚI win by conceding. Because thatâs the right thing to do.âÂ
Lucina let out a rather happy screech and started babbling while looking up to her father. He wasnât sure what she was saying, but he smiled and leaned into the tub to kiss the top of her head,Â
âDaddy loves you, too, Lucina.âÂ
âDoes daddy want to do the honors of drying her off?âÂ
âMy pleasure. Câmere, Luci.âÂ
Her favorite towel, light blue with navy and turquoise butterflies patterning its plush surfaceâthe perfect texture for a finicky baby (at least thatâs how it was advertised). Chrom lifted the child from her âpalaceâ and so carefully (with full hands, nonetheless) managed to wrap her safely in its embrace. Â Just like magic, Lucina appeared to be lulled to sleep the second Chrom held her to his chest.
âYou have that effect on her,â Robin cooed with delight, âshe always falls asleep right in your arms.âÂ
âYeah, well, Iâm sure the second we get a diaper and pajamas on her sheâll be wide awake begging for your attention.âÂ
âWeâll see about that.â
  And she did. Â
So much for an on-schedule bed time. Â
