Ey presses eir lips together tightly, considering eir response carefully. "Are you sure?" ey asks after a moment of deliberation. 

Grantaire looks up again, nodding quickly. "That is to say," he says, "things are different; meetings in your absence are strange, though Combeferre's temporary leadership is no less competent, in the technical sense, of course."

"That's because he already does half of my job," ey says.

"But of course!" he agrees. "And I should hardly dare to say that he's done a poor job picking up the slack in your absence, the furthest from it, we're all very impressed, even if he does lack some of your sway."

"But you've been going to the meetings," ey points out, smiling.

He rolls his eyes and gives em a look as if this should never have been in question. Ey bites eir tongue on a sharp response to it. "Of course I have," he says. "But it isn't the same. And furthermore I should add that it's very tempting to misbehave when there's no one around to scold me."

Ey raises an eyebrow at this and says, "I could assign that task to Combeferre, too, if you'd prefer."

He only grins. 

Enjolras takes a sip of eir coffee and grimaces. "What I wouldn't do for a real cup of coffee," ey adds. At this Grantaire sucks a sharp breath through his teeth, glancing wide-eyed off to the side of the room. "What?" ey asks, frowning at him.

"Same to you," ey says. "Though you look like a mess."

He scoffs. "Oh, thanks," he says, but there's no bite in it. His eyes are fixed on the screen, which gives the odd impression that he's looking more at eir chest than at eir face, though ey knows it's not the case. "You, on the other hand," he adds, "look perfect, as usual."

"Shut up," ey tells him, laughing. 

"What?" He's grinning more broadly now. "It's true! Gorgeous as ever - no, more."

Ey rolls eir eyes, though it does nothing to hide the smile ey can feel tugging at the edges of eir mouth in spite of emself. "I know that isn't true," ey says, "since at least three people today have seen fit to tell me how tired I look. And I don't care for flattery."
