"Same Old"

They came ashore for a lark

(And it was singing!),

And to dig bare toes into the warm sand,

And relax in the echo 

Of a memory ringing.

They should have known how far the land

Could change, over so much time.

Had they not learned that lesson before,

In the harsh schools of Paravel's ruins,

Silent woods, and river dug in gorge?

Lucy and Ed, you came home 

To a peninsula made an island.

Why should this island be the same?

But still you hoped for simple joys,

Damian smirks impishly at the laugh, though his eyes are soft and jovial as he looks from her to the little girl whirling about the playground. With a whistle and nod of his head, Crow and Ebony slink out from their shaded hiding spots behind the bench and almost glide toward Suzie with their long limbs, tails wagging as they stand beneath her and follow her shadow while she makes her way across the bars, prepared to break a fall with their tall backs.

“Gold stars...” he muses, “I’m certain my chart was thrown in the shredder, probably. I’ve no chance at any halos or stars, not with all the shite I’ve done and let pass in my unnatural lifetime, Miss Cross.”

If I were a god or goddess, I’d be Athena, I suppose

If I were a sea animal, I’d be a dolphin

If I were a piece of furniture, I’d be an old-fashioned writing desk

If I were a gemstone, I’d be sapphire

If I were a flower, I’d be lilac

If I were a kind of weather, I’d be sunshowers

If I were a color, I’d be periwinkle blue 

If I were an emotion, I’d be elation

If I were a fruit, I’d be a pomegranate

If I were a sound, I’d be trickling water 

If I were an element, I’d be water

If I were a place, I’d be a musty old library

If I were a taste, I’d be lemon sorbet

If I were a scent, I’d be rosemary and lavender

If I were an object, I’d be a telescope

If I were a body part, I’d be eyes

If I were a song, I’d be J.S.Bach’s Jesu, meine Freude or Simon & Garfunkel’s Flowers Never Bend With the Rainfall 

If I were a pair of shoes, I’d be a pair of Oxford brogues in cognac brown 

Purple: Quiet, Expressive, Literate. 

Yellow: I favour the late evening. When the sun sets a band of oily orange appears across the horizon and the undersides of clouds take on the same purples and pinks as small flower petals in the morning. Blue becomes vivid and sometimes a star shines near the horizon. The trees across from my balcony are silver maples, so they catch rogue points of light before they fall into deep shadow. And then the painting vanishes and no other will be the same.

I am back! I thought I never would, got distracted and involved in other things for a while, needed some distance. 

I know what you mean, I feel that way a little too. It’s my own fault for disppearing but I do wonder where some people went, and I miss them. Even some I had their emails. I got locked out of my old email address and anyway, long story short, I lost all of them, so I have no way of contacting them anymore. I feel a bit sad about that, but, again, my own fault.
