so, i knew about how the thompson SMG was basically designed without knowledge of how it actually worked but they somehow lucked into a functional firearm by making essentially a simple blowback, right???? BUT, apparently, they did the same for an actual autoloading rifle??? the thompson model 1923 autorifle, apparently they tried to design it with the same pseudoscientific principal that the SMG was designed with, but not only did they somehow luck into a functional autoloading rifle which is in theory gonna be WAY more complicated than a simple blowback SMG, but they lucked their way into a sorta weird delayed blowback???? delayed blowback, which i mostly see cited as being popularized by H&K with the G3 and MP5 and such, something that didn't really come into being a thing people knew about until the 1940s, and they somehow lucked into that shit???? i swear, thompson was one of the luckiest motherfuckers in human history
