my take on a no (prevented) sburb au + fef wins au. through her close friendship with sollux and karkat she eventually grew out of the "culling = caring 38)" idea bc. both of them pointed out it would end up being fucking awful and well. an abuse of rights. shes still a progressive empress tho.
she ends up taking karkat as her advisor and gamzee as an official-unofficial guard, saving them both from culling. she considers them her dearest friends (though gamzee is. Beginning to. Piss Her Off (hatemance <333<)). they are both scared and Deeply grateful towards her. feelings slowly become less fraught with time. but its messy.
by the time she took the throne she had decided to focus on Diversity instead and. shes still an optimist and kind of an idiot and still has that unhealthy (condescending) "mother the whole universe" instinct. but! thats why she has karcrab as her roy-eel advis-oar 38). who tells her things like "ARE YOU FUCKING STUPID."
she ends up asking the 12 trolls who wouldve been players to be her royal court, at least for some time as she settles in, because she reallly doesnt trust or like the condesces old highguard and these guys mostly have no reason to betray her (since doc scratch is Long Gone in this au bc. prevented sburb. vriska has mostly evened out and her and terezi are too pale for eachother to be normal. so its fine)
this is predictably Intense and full of stupid troll romance bullshit and fraught feelings all around. because yknow. 12 fresh adults are working together to rule an empire. and they all have weapons and kind of want to hurt each other and have History. fun!
my main idea for this is that feferi is attempting to broker peace and healthy, non colonial relationships with the last society the empire found before she ground it to a halt; earth. shes decided the best way to do this is to have every meeting include every caste (HER AND ALL ELEVEN OF HER STUPID 21 YR OLD FRIENDS WHO ALL KINDA HATE EACH OTHER) its predictably stupid and also really fucking hilarious.
