âThe events that came to pass were no fault of your own, Master Peregrin. If anyone is to be blamed, it is myself, having allowed him to ride to battle in the first place.â
Ăowyn looked upon the hobbit with empathy shining in her eyes. She knew the hobbit blamed himself for the injuries sustained by Merry at Pelennor Fields, having thought that if it hadnât been for his travels to Minas Tirith the events never wouldâve taken place at all. Instead the blame was placed upon Ăowyn - and rightfully so. Though the wound he bore was not fatal, it still gnawed on her conscious knowing she had put him in such grave danger to begin with. She offered Pippin a kind, reassuring smile.
âPlease, my friend, do not fret over such things. He sits near to me in the Houses of Healing as we speak, and he would agree that the fault is not your own.â
Though she was right, about Merry  not  allowing  Pippin  to  take       the blame, he couldn't help but feel guilty. Had he not been foolish       enough to gaze into the  Palantir,  he  wouldn't  have  had  to  leave       Merry, and might have been able to protect him if needed. But then       again,  he  wouldn't  have  known  of what would have happened to       Minas Tirith,  and  the  damage  done  could  have been worse. He       swallowed, looking up at the reassuring smile,  and  replying  to  it       with  one  of  his  own.  He  could  not lose his bright spirit now, not       now  Merry  needed  it  most,  and  so  he  told  himself  to cheer up.
âI would not blame you for this, my lady.  I  am  quite  sure          he would  have  gone  to  battle,  no  matter  whether  you          would have allowed him or not.  He has always been the          more  courageous  of  us two, and as long as his friends          would  be  in  danger,  he  would  try to help them... as he          always  tried   to   help   me   when   I   was   younger.â
