If Luffy was honest to himself, than he had always been aware of the fact, that his ways with Doflamingo would truly separate one day. It became more obvious the day he started his own journey three years ago - more or less on accident but none the less - and it became even clearer within the last few days.
Now coming back to Dressrosa the pirate captain had to admit that he hadn’t expected their ways to part like this though. Maybe that was the reason why he didn’t even bothered with staying with the others as soon as they reached the shore on purpose this time.
Getting to the palace actually was as easy as he remembered. Getting inside...surprisingly as well. It made him wonder if he actually managed to sneak past all those guys that were supposed to protect this place or if Joker was actually waiting for him to arrive at this place.
Well he would find out soon enough.
When he entered the throne room he was surprisingly quiet. No ‘Hey Doffy I’m home’ or ‘Did anyone miss me?’. Instead just silence, while his hat was dragged down into his face. This was... awkward to say at least. Honestly he had wondered about this situation so many times over so many years already but... a situation like this was something he never expected. Could have imagined.
And yet they were here.
