There's no 'but' attached to the end of the sentence. Kazui knows he'll do whatever he can to keep his fellow prisoners from getting hurt, but Fuuta can't do anything but blindly trust, so assurances probably don't mean anything. The only person Kazui has stated his convictions to is the warden, and even then...
Well, I want to help others, but isn't that also something I said while feeling spiteful towards myself?
"It isn't that strange, though. I'd wager that none of us are being completely open with eachother. Would you say you've shared very much with me, or with any other prisoner here?" It isn't as if he knows the answer for sure, but there's a sense of certainty in his tone. "Whatever the case, I don't have a desire to know anything more than I'm told. Ah... For now, I'd like it if things stayed a little unclear between all of us. Not knowing what each other prisoner has done---it helps some of us get along a little better, no?"
