SERIES - Descendants of the Kings of Asturias: Favila was the second King of Asturias from 737.
-------------------- ~ -------------------- ~ --------------------
FAVILA was born around 715-20, however it is not known where he was born. He may have been born in the area where the Astures lived, that became the Kingdom of Asturias around 718-22, or somewhere else in the Iberian Peninsula.
He was the only known son of Don Pelayu and Gaudiosa. Some sources believe that his father was of Visigothic origin and if this is true he also had Visigoth blood.
As he was probably born before his father was elected as Pelayu, King of Asturias around 718-22, on his father's accession he became a member of the Royal House founded by the new King, the ASTUR-LEONESE DYNASTY.
In 737 his father died and the Asturian nobility elected him as their new ruler, as FAVILA, KING OF ASTURIAS.
On an uncertain date he married a certain FROILUBA, of unknown origins, so it is not known if his wedding occured before or after he became King. There are no records of them having had any children.
It is recorded that the King of Asturias was killed by a bear in 739, but the location within the Kingdom of Asturias was not recorded. He was probably in his early twenties.

After his death the Asturian nobility elected his brother-in-law to become their new Monarch and he ruled as King Alfonsu I.
