if they were to defend themselves, what weapon would they use? something physical, their minds or magic?
had they ever imagined of living another life? growing up in a different context and being someone completely different?
do they know how to swim? if so, have they ever been to the ocean? if not, had they ever been close to drowning?
who is someone they are willing to burn the world for? if there's no one, what "honorable" cause could make them throw it all away?
would they survive say a week inside a forest? and in the middle of a desert?
do they believe in luck? what would they wish upon a fallen star if they ever saw one?
do they know how to dance? is it something they enjoy or an activity expected from them?
are they straight forward with people they don't like? or do they mask of the emotion and try to be as polite as possible?
is destiny something written in the stars, or something they write for themselves?
//sorry if they are a lot haha, feel free to save some of them for next Blorbo Blursday!
have a good day/night!

Carmen!!! Thank you SO much for the ask!!! I'm going to do this for <Prince>, Alora, and Lila.
if they were to defend themselves, what weapon would they use? something physical, their minds or magic?
The Prince would definitely use his magic. Yes, he's good enough with a sword, but he's no master, and in a true emergency, he'd fare much better using his magic. It's very powerful, and although to cost to himself would be high, it would save his life immediately, which is more important.
Alora I'm not sure about. She has a small dagger that she carries on her person (it was a gift from her mother(?) before she came to the Prince's kingdom), and she knows how to use it alright. But she also has some kind of magic (exactly what, I'm not sure), so depending on what that is, she would also probably reach for that on instinct.
Lila would probably try to be rational. She has to be good at keeping calm in a crisis, being a healer. And since her magic isn't anything that could be used to defend herself, she'd be forced to either try and avoid conflict and make an escape, or use a weapon.
had they ever imagined of living another life? growing up in a different context and being someone completely different?
No, I don't think that this is something that has ever crossed the Prince's mind. He was born to be king, and he will be king. That's just how it is.
Alora on the other hand, might have thought about it on occasion. Not seriously, but as a child I'm sure she romanticized living somewhere simple, meeting someone in a village or something, falling in love and getting married. But that was just daydreaming, and she doesn't actually want that to happen.
Lila has. She could see herself living somewhere else, far away from all the politics of the court. But she'd never actually leave. <Prince> needs her, and she won't leave him. Besides, she doesn't actively dislike her current life, just sometimes wonders what other things would be like.
the rest of these are going under the cut cause this is getting really long!
do they know how to swim? if so, have they ever been to the ocean? if not, had they ever been close to drowning?
The Prince does know how to swim, but he's never really spent serious time at the ocean. He's traveled near it, or even visited cities on the ocean, but he's never just relaxed on the beach or gone swimming in the ocean.
Alora definitely know how to swim. The capital of her kingdom is directly on the coast, and the castle is built overlooking the beach. In fact, there is a private beach cove that can only be accessed via the castle grounds. So, she's spent a lot of time near the ocean, and is an excellent swimmer.
Lila can swim well enough not to drown should she fall into water, but she's certainly not going to win any races or look elegant while she does it. She's never visited the ocean.
who is someone they are willing to burn the world for? if there's no one, what "honorable" cause could make them throw it all away?
The Prince would eventually burn down the world for Alora. (Litearlly, since he has fire magic.) And he nearly does when he finds out about a certain event in the story.
He would also do a lot for Lila, but his relationship with her is different than what he feels about Alora. But he does love her and trust her more than anyone else, even his family.
Alora wouldn't quite burn down the world, but she would give up anything and everything for any one of her family members, or (eventually) <Prince>. She'd sacrifice her own happiness or power for the people she loves every time if given the choice, but she's not the kind to destroy out of love.
Lila is more similar to Alora. She wouldn't exactly burn down the world, but she would do everything in her power to keep her loved ones safe and alive. She's very protective of her loved ones, including the Prince, but she would never destroy or cause harm out of love, unless it was like, directly done to someone who had hurt a loved one in order to save them.
would they survive say a week inside a forest? and in the middle of a desert?
The Prince would certainly survive in the forest. He knows enough to be able to get food, and he has fire magic to keep himself warm, boil water, and cook food. So, he would survive. Not too sure about the desert. His powers would honestly just be detrimental to him, since using them elevates his body temp, and that combined with desert heat could prove very dangerous for him.
Alora would struggle in both. She's clever, but she doesn't have the knowledge or skills for this. She doesn't know how to prepare meat to be eaten, doesn't know what plants are safe and which are poisonous, etc. So, she'd struggle to keep herself fed.
Lila would be fine in the forest. She's very knowledgeable about plants, so finding edible ones would be of no issue. She also knows enough about anatomy that she could presumably find a humane way to kill an animal to eat. The desert would also be harder for her, since most of her knowledge comes from plants, again.
do they believe in luck? what would they wish upon a fallen star if they ever saw one?
The Prince does not. He believes that everything in life you either do yourself or is done to you by someone else. He's not religious, either. Rather cynical, to be completely honest. He would think wishing on a falling star is pointless and childish.
Alora does. Maybe not so much in luck, but a combination between luck and destiny. She definitely believes there are things that influence events outside of what people do. She would absolutely wish on a falling star, and she absolutely adores stargazing.
Lila believes in luck a little. Yes, you might be luckier one day than the next, but she's not superstitious about what affects that luck. She would wish on a falling star just for fun, but if it came true, it would just be a coincidence.
do they know how to dance? is it something they enjoy or an activity expected from them?
Prince is an excellent dancer, but only because he's expected to be. He doesn't enjoy it, and sees it as just another hoop he has to jump through to make himself look good.
Alora both loves dancing and is very good at it.
Lila is neither good at it, nor enjoys it. And luckily for her, she's not often expected to do it.
are they straight forward with people they don't like? or do they mask of the emotion and try to be as polite as possible?
The Prince is a mix of both. If he has to be polite with someone he doesn't like to get something he wants, he will be. But it's a cold, impersonal politeness. (Not that he's very good at being personal most of the time anyways.) But if he has no reason to respect the person he's angry with, he won't. He's very good at insulting or humiliating people without them even knowing it's happening.
Alora isn't very good at hiding her dislike of people. If she absolutely has to be polite, she'll more or less give them the cold shoulder and avoid them as much as possible. If she doesn't have to be polite for an important reason, she will absolutely just ignore you, or chew you out.
Lila can't hide it at all. If she doesn't like you, she will be very rude and mean with you. You don't deserve her respect, so she won't give it to you, not for any reason.
is destiny something written in the stars, or something they write for themselves?
Like I said above, the Prince believes that everything is either in your own hands or the hands of those more powerful than you. Nothing is set in stone, not ever, and to assume so is foolishness.
Alora likes the idea that there are some things that are meant to happen, but also that people have some degree of autonomy. Some things are going to happen, but free will is absolutely also a thing.
Lila believes you are in control of your own destiny. If you want something, go get it. Work towards it, and hopefully it can be yours.
Thank you SO MUCH for this ask, Carmen!! This is some of the most fun I've had answering an ask in a very, very long time!! All of these questions were great, and they really made me think more about this trio of characters!

dw oswin i appreciate ur math genius i've never before witnessed a better way to learn derivatives and graphing thank u for educating us
wow a math genius i have like a F+ in math right now im so glad that you appreciate the tiny Piece of my efforts. ok also technically you can’t take the deriv of his ass (the way it is, unless he’s lying down) so the answer should’ve been ... Invalid unless u restricted the domain to like. half his ass. lol
For any characters you would like to answer this with (though I would love to hear about Fallon and Kris specifically if you can share):
When your character is struggling to sleep or flat out avoiding it, what is the one thing that will have your character fast asleep within minutes?
Examples: a specific tea or soup, someone reading out loud to them, someone playing with their hair, putting them somewhere warm like in front of a fire or in the sun, cuddling in the arms of that one person, that one person's voice, etc
Bonus: Which of your character's friends and family know about this trick? How often do they use it to get your character to sleep?
ANNA!! Thank you for the ask!! And happy STS!
So, you were very smart to ask about Kris and Fallon, because they're the two who have the worst time sleeping out of all my OCs. They both have nightmares sometimes and will have trouble going back to sleep (though Kris doesn't usually wake up from them unless someone wakes him up), but also Fallon has a hard time sleeping when she's stressed, and both of them (but especially Fallon) will sometimes particularly avoid sleeping because they're dumbasses (affectionate) who don't know how to do self-care.
Now to actually answer your question! Fallon likes to be held, just like, having the weight of someone's arms around her (particularly Kris). So if she's the one who has trouble sleeping, they'll both lie down and Kris will just wrap his arms around her and stay like that until one or both of them falls asleep. Kris will run his fingers through her hair too, which is calming for both of them. Also, sometimes Kris will let Fallon run her fingers through his hair to calm herself down.
Kristopher likes to have someone be touching him, be it a hug or a head on his shoulder/chest, etc.. Also, he likes having Fallon talk to him, just talk about something mundane and random. Basically he just likes being reminded that someone else is there with him, and he's not alone. (The talking alone is fine for regular insomnia, but after Fallon wakes him up from a nightmare, he really likes to have the touch and the talking.)
Fallon sleeps best when warm but not hot, so she really loves getting cozy with a bunch of blankets, especially when she was living alone. (She would absolutely adore weighted blankets.)
Kris on the other hand moves more in his sleep, and usually winds up tangled in the blankets if he sleeps with too many. But he's from Oryn (cold, mountains) so he's used to blankets being a thing.
There is also a certain type of tea that's used as a sleep aid in low doses. (High doses it acts more like a stronger sedative.) Some people use it for insomnia, kind of like taking a melatonin supplement in our world.
happy belated WBW, morri! so, for any of your wips, what would a non-main character outsider POV be like? to the stuff happening in their homeland while the story takes place?? sorry if this doesn't make sense, i'm still a little incoherent. - 🔮⛈
Ooh, this is a really interesting question!! (and dw, it makes plenty of sense!!)
So, for ATQH, from the perspective of like, an everyday citizen of Anvia, the events of the plot would all just be, like, wild gossip?? Since they don't know the Queen personally. The further they would live from the Palace, the more distorted the gossip would get, and the longer it would take them to find out. But, oh man, it would be wild.
"so, after 5 years of nothing, she's inviting a bunch of people to the Palace?? Interesting."
"a Prince of Oryn is a guest in the Palace????" *narrowed eyes*
"this Prince is like, a total shitshow, apparently. Why the hell is he even here????"
"An infamous criminal was staying in the Palace under the Queen's very nose!!"
"The Prince is definitely a shit show. She's going to kick him out!"
"She did not kick him out. WHY??????"
"SOMEONE TRIED TO MURDER THE QUEEN"
"I have no idea what the fuck is going on anymore, but it's not good."
"The Queen is out of her mind."
And so on.
I literally have some plot points planned that revolve around the effects of the rumor mill on the main characters. (Mostly the public's reactions to the end of Act III through all of Act IV, since that's when Shit Goes Down.) But I still need to work those plot points out more. Right now they're just vague concepts.
For CoS, it would depend on who we were talking about. If they were someone that Dorian and Ash bumped into, then they would definitely know something was up. They'd definitely have some weird stories to tell about at the very least, two people acting weird as hell, and potentially a shadow mage and a very strange slug.
If they never interacted with the fugitives, or lived far away from where they were traveling, it would all just be weird stuff.
"There's rumors of wolves on the move to the east. No one has seen them, but they hear the howls."
"So many more guardsmen around than usual! What are they afraid of?"
"My cousin swore she saw a demon last week!" // "The same cousin who is usually very, very drunk?" // ".... yes. But she swore she saw it!"
"There's demon-spawn [shadow mage] walking in the north." // "Just superstition. You know how they are up there."
For your whole main cast of characters in any story: the animal lover OC enters with a box full of stray puppies, all of which they want to keep. How do the other characters react?
Hi Anna!! Happy STS! Ooh, and this is a great question for CoS in particular.
Dorian is the one who finds the puppies, and of course he wants to keep them. All of them. No matter what. (But he's also never had a pet before and has no idea how much work one puppy is, let alone 5 or 6.)
Ashlin is the one who says "absolutely, no way, not at all", because she knows that pets are a lot of work, and they also know that they're expensive and you need to feed them, and give them water, etc. Not to mention that if you're on the run, 5 or 6 dogs isn't exactly inconspicuous or subtle.
Theo is also on team keep the puppies. They love animals too, and that's part of why they get along with Dorian so well. They would see the box, stop whatever they're doing, go over and start baby-talking to the puppies, petting them and trying to brainstorm names. They would probably have named at least two before Ash and Dorian are even done arguing.
(Ash would be like "no. we can't name them, because we're NOT KEEPING THEM!")
Cal would think they're cute, but also know that they're impractical. She likes animals, but she doesn't have a lifestyle that allows for a pet, and she also isn't super desperate to own one herself. She's also like an aunt or cousin to Theo, so she'd probably try and logically explain to them why keeping the puppies isn't practical or a good idea.
Squish would be very curious about the puppies, and probably go over and try to communicate with them via squeaks and chirps, with an unknown degree of success.
Lenora would not be involved in this conversation, because she wouldn't willingly be in the same place as all the other characters, given that she wants most of them dead or imprisoned. But she would definitely want the puppies gone. They're so... hyper. And slobbery.

psychic-sylveon replied to your post:my book deadline is literally this Thursday and...
Nobody should be expecting you to post art all of the time. You have your own life with problems outside of art. Maybe after all this is over, you could even take a break from art/tumblr if you feel you need to. It’s completely understandable <3
this is so sweet?? honestly omg <3 <3
probs not gonna take a art/tumblr break but i usually have like 1 or 2 days a week without looking at my laptop so my eyes can have a break but beyond that i doubt i’ll be taking a break anytime soon!!
