@fatehunted !! hit the heart for a starter

cat’s perched at the corner of an iron railing. fire escapes are her preference, but what else is new? she likes being high, high, high up. higher than anything can get. she likes the sound, the din, the frigid comfort of the distance. poised steel heels remain comfortably together, weight seeming to rest on near nothing in that crouch. her whip curls at her hip, dangling like a coiled tail in the shape of her silhouette.

“i’m a cat,” she deadpans, but a grin reveals sharp canine, soft brown eyes a spark of pleasant gold, “duh.”

movement swings the feline down, a drop before her hand grasps an edge and swings her onto the railing from which the other speaks. her head tilts, every soundless ping of seven inch heel is almost soothing. rhythmic. she receives the statement with a calm cheer, and how fortunate artemis is she’s found her on a good night.

Peter's mouth, for once, was shut. Eyes were firmly planted anywhere that wasn't looking directly at Artemis as they walked in this new silence. Already, he could hear the ribbing he'd get from the guys if they'd seen how their hands had grazed, even if it had been accidental. Especially with how bashful it had made the ever mouthy Spider-Man. Their hands brushed again, this time a lot more purposeful than the first, but she had yet to respond poorly . . . but why was he still nervous about it?

“ Y'know, I was thinking about your arrows and my webshooters. Wouldn't it be kinda cool if you had a web arrow? Nothing fancy, but it would be a good crowd control tool, an explosion of webfluid that traps a group in a single shot. ” A shrug as if he hadn't given it more than a passing thought. Rambling to keep the nerves at bay. “ Just an idea, I could totally make it for you. If you wanted. ”

a dark CRACK across his screen strikes out her message . he has to set his phone down for minutes while he relaxes, lest he shatter the entire thing .

he really did love that about her . the fact she would just SAY what was on her mind . the part he hated ? that she couldn’t understand . she should know by now that he’s always going to choose HIS FATHER, his reputation, THE COLD, over her . over anything . ( he had to . )

neither of them succeeded . Icicle Junior didn’t please his employers with a completed mission, and Artemis and her little heroes didn’t get to bring him in . the only satisfaction he got was drawing BLOOD from her compatriots . ( but not her, never her . ) lots of it . enough to stain his ice PINK, even now .

now she was mad at him . he sort of loved that, too . can you love someone, and it just … not be enough ?
