like dont get me wrong fuck bethesda for releasing it in the state they did. it's deeply, deeply unfinished.

starfield is a game where sometimes opening a menu or pausing the game tanks my performance afterwards forever and i have to restart the entire game.

let me repeat that actually

starfield is a game where, at any point, there's a ~20% chance that after opening my inventory i will need to restart the game

fallout 4 definitely has issues, for one it's a terrible RPG in pretty much every single aspect but honestly beyond that? there is so much to love

the world is great, the sheer amount of little scripted things like ghouls climbing over things or through windows, the weapon and armour modding, the settlement building??? the companions actually having personality, the loot/craft system, the companion app honestly? that's a cool gimmick

not to mention the amount of engine optimizations and improvements like the way your character moves in third person (this was kind of cool to see in 2015)

and then starfield- it has most of those things but none of the energy is there. fallout 4 feels like a celebration "look what we can do! look at our ideas!" where starfield almost feels embarrassed of itself

and there is good shit in starfield, some of the generated buildings (the "dungeons") are very fun to play through, with gravity gimmicks and whatnot, the cities are GORGEOUS and so detailed, the shipbuilding is fun
