We were supposed to bring the chicken adobo to the river for a picnic, but some the boys aren't feeling well so we ate under the tree instead. We waited years for this tree to finally provide us shade. While waiting for the food we watched a short video about the Philippine Hornbill and why we need to protect them. They're on the verge of going extinct but a few can be found in our forests. These beautiful creatures are called farmers of the forest because they drop seeds that grow into trees. They're probably the ones who planted this lonesome Alum tree next to the #tinywhitehouse Childhood in #Bukidnon isn't complete without slingshots but boys must be taught which targets are okay to hit and which ones are not. This little guy and his flock have been visiting us for days, singing us their beautiful tunes from sunrise to sunset. I discovered why when I went out to gather chili peppers for my salad -- they are here to harvest the ripe bird's eye chili pepper they planted by my son's bedroom window 🤣😆😂 I'm not even mad at them as I couldn't call it my pepper plant. Haha! It's cool, birds. I'll plant more for ya this week so we'll have plenty to share. . . These #farmkids (children of neighbors in the farm) share our space on weekends and play with our boys. Sometimes when it gets too hot or they get bored running around or climbing trees, they borrow my 8-year-old's crayons and coloring books and work under the guava trees. Unlike all the other fruit trees in the garden, these guavas sort of just popped up out of nowhere. So I always tell these kids, be kind to the birds and the bats as they most probably are the ones who planted these trees for you. See how much you are enjoying their shade 😉😁 (they're like, "Yes, aunty..." ) . . Observing kids at play can be fun, and I'm enjoying the opportunity to provide a nurturing and supportive learning environment for them as they get along with our own children. Part of me is hoping they'd have beautiful childhood memories with our family. Sunday's gloomy but not so our hearts 😊 Went bird watching with husband today and we got a chance to see the Philippine flying foxes leave their sanctuary to hunt for food during the night. They'll be back again in their roosting place before daybreak tomorrow. We're 200 meters away from them but I can hear the noise they're making in the forest and smell them from here. . Also known as the Golden-capped Philippine Fruit Bat, these rare flying giants are endemic to Philippines, can weigh up to 2.6 lb and have a wingspan of 5.6 feet.
