Ok so I just made a decision for spring semester that I am SO excited about!
I'm basically in a college leadership organization that has e-board members at the state, regional, and national levels. NACURH and its affiliates are a whole other world that I didn't know existed but I am so glad I discovered. I can't express how much love I have for my state, the region, and this national organization!
Well, all the e-board positions are up for grabs every year on the state, regional, and national levels. I'm currently a member of the spirit committee on the regional level. I'm making this video for the national conference that represents my region and a thought just occurred to me.
A lot of people have asked me if I have plans to move up the ladder at these conferences, especially because my best friend is currently the AD (basically VP) on the state level. I'm not a very politically-oriented person and a lot of these "moving up the ladder in positions because it looks good" are what a lot of people assume these positions are about. Plus I am also very happy as NCC and I enjoy my position and being a part of the process in choosing the people who will serve our organization well.
But I just realized my passion lies in the spirit committee for the region. I look forward to those bi-weekly spirit meetings so much! And today I realized I wish I had the power to engage other NCC's in committees and get them excited and make them realize there's SO much of this region that we should be proud of.
I know people will question why I didn't run for the spirit-oriented leadership position first (remember the ladder?) And I honestly can't explain why I don't want to. My love lies in the region. I feel like FARH (the state level) is like a little family. I love my state too, don't get me wrong! I am just so much more passionate about the regional level and I know it fits my passion perfectly--I don't want to wait a year!
I want to be in charge of spirit for my region next year. The region is where my passion for spirit lies. I'm SO excited. To think I have a chance to actually have the power to make a difference? I'm not really concerned with the title really. I feel like I can't make much of a difference now because I don't have the "authority" to. I want to show NCC's that they can contribute SO MUCH to such a great organization that stands for great things. I want to show them they don't need a leadership title to make a difference.
I know it's going to be tough because people are very critical because you need "state qualifications" first but I hope people think I'm genuine and actually want engage people.
I don't really post many personal posts on my blog but not many people in my life understand what this really means to me. I just needed to vent about it somehow ahhh I'm looking forward to this year so much!!

My first race
Sprinting without stretching and warming up is like starting a car that has been standing overnight, and as soon the engine turns, flooring the accelerator. Indeed, this will cause the car to have an engine troubles, and it will not able to move if it damages its engine. Similarly, if a runner starts as fast as he can at the beginning of a race, he can hurt himself. Although sprinting at the first lap of the race is a fatal mistake, it became my best running experience.
It was only one year ago when I entered my first race. I was proud of and excited to take part of that race because I knew that I can run pretty fast. However, I didn’t realize that I was an amateur, and the worst part was I trained myself only physically, but not mentally.
The night before the race day, I was under great strain because I was writing eight pages of a history research paper, so I did not sleep enough. Therefore, the race day I was little bit less energetic. I stood the starting block with high self- confidence, and I was not anxious at all because it was pretty obvious that I was the most talented runner. Unfortunately, I neglected my aptitude and surprisingly I sprinted at the beginning and that caused to go slower than everyday else on the last laps of the race because I used all my energy at the beginning.
Although many experienced runners told me how horrendous starting running fast is before, I was not aware of it until I experienced it. After that day, everything became self- explanatory, and I stopped using poor technique. After that race, I realized that it is impossible for even the finest runners in the entire universe to win if they sprint their first lap.
Making this mistake really motivated to train hard and to time myself because when lost the race I thought that I did not train enough to take part. I succeed the fourth place but that was not what I was expecting because I had already covered the distance that we were running. When I crossed the finishing line I regretted my atrocious techniques because if I run wisely than I could win easily the race.
However, after one day, in fact, I was proud of my mistake because I learned a lot from my loss and “Those who do not learn from their mistake are doomed to repeat it”. When I lost the race I thought I was a world failure but then I realized that it was just a lesson for me and it helped me to be fastidious for the upcoming races.
As a result of that incident, my running improved dramatically and all my subsequent races were much easier and less exhausted than the previous one because I was avoiding sprinting on the first laps of the races, and I trained hard because my mistake motivated me enormously. The loss gave me a tremendous stress which pushed me to become the star of my school’s running team. Every successful person that you see today is someone who struggled first, and perseverance is an essential ingredient for success.
