I’ve recommended some of Fandomme’s work before (Stormbenders anyone?) and as impressive as her muti-chapter fics are, I almost like her little one-shots even better.

Wow.

Just...wow.

28. Share three of your favorite fic writers and why you like them so much.

This is the worst question ever. How can I only pick three? You know what: this meme is about fic writing. And fic is using somebody else’s canon and altering it (or that’s one very rough description :P). So I’m gonna fic this question and make it better.

28. Share some of your favourite fic writers from three fic writing categories and why you like them so much.

1. Authors you’re lucky enough to be able to call friends (at least in your own head. Apologies to those who do not want to fall under this category). 

* derinthemadscientist. Derin... How do I describe why I like Derin's writing so much? It's heartbreaking, for starters, which doesn't seem like something you'd put under the "I like" list, but it really is. Because in order to be that heartbreaking you need to really know how to write. You have to get into the heads and souls of your characters and your readers. And Derin does this. They're really good with plot points that leave you breathless and ironing out plot holes and just writing things in a factual, realistic way that just pulls you in and doesn't let go. Plus, with the whole character realistic thing the character interactions and, in the case of Animorphs, team freaking dynamics blow my mind, man. Also, Derin has this uncanny way of saying so much with only a short sentence - not overstating anything but at the same time making it so clear it punches you through the very face.

* overzelos. Zelos takes my half-crack ideas and moaning and mixes it into really good fic and lets me have it back. She also owns the other half of my soul Derin didn't manage to get, and is steadily and cheerfully breaking it into tiny bits and pieces. Okay, no, but to be serious: I'd just joined Tumblr and I was nostalgic over Animorphs so I went onto AO3 - then a new find for behind-the-times me - and looked up Animorphs fic. Live Learned... lit something in me. Like a final piece of Animorphs that I needed to make it transcend from 'a series I once loved and that changed me' into something I could still engage with and learn from today. Live Learned was what made me curious to see if there was any Animorphs content on Tumblr in the first place. Zelos writes raw. She writes descriptions that make me gape in awe. She cuts to the heart of the matter - the very things that make the characters tick - and she offers them up to her readers so wonderfully explained and placed in the most fantastic of plots. But I think the personal reason I love Zelos' writing so much is the attention she pays to relationships. Not romances (although those feature) but relationships. It's a direct shot to my very heart.

* forbiddenarchives. I'd love this human-thing even if they weren't a wonderful writer. Ugh... Where do I even start with you, my friend? Forbiddenarchives was my first real friend on this site. The beta reader for my Doctor Who trash. My cheerleader. And I'm supposed to be gushing about their writing, not them, aren't I? Okay. So. The plot ideas. The mastery to connect one plot to another. The descriptions. Just putting some hella beautiful sentences together. Loving the characters and letting this shine through in everything they write. All of this and more.

* pawnofanellimist. ERIN WRITES ME HAPPY THINGS LIKE HAPPY CAKE AND TAM SIBLING DRABBLES OKAY THAT IS ENOUGH REASON TO LOVE ZIR LOVELY FACE AND WANT TO SQUISH IT IN LOVE. More seriously: Erin has such an awesome mind for linking concepts to a work that people want to read. Ze can take a core theory/notion/plot and link so many wonderful things to it and weave it into a story and I just love that. Plus, ze writes hella cute things.

* whatchuknowbouts. What, Martin, you thought you wouldn't feature? Pah. Please. Okay. So Martin's brain when it comes to taking characters and placing them in other settings is just phenomenal. All his AU ideas are so on point and make so much sense. And all the little details are so nicely sorted out. It's fantastic.

2. Authors from your very first years of fic writing (AKA the ancient goddesses who changed it all for you.) 

* Fandomme on FF.net. This is the best and the rawest Avatar fanfic I have ever written. I adore ATLA but this fic takes the show to a completely new level of freaking awesomeness. It finally breaks that line of "children's show" and takes things rawer and so much deeper into the characters and just... She was the first person to make me understand what Alternate Canon fics could do. I will never grow out of her writing. Ever.

* Ultra-Geek on FF.net. I can't decide whether I like their crack or their serious fics more - both are fantastic. The first crack fics I didn't hate were written by them. Their Merlin fics were what first drew me in and then I just couldn't leave. Everything is raw and so well-written and the plots are epic and wonderful and it's just... They inspired the hell out of me.

* Little Miss Illusional on FF.net. What Fandomme did to ATLA, LMI did for Class of the Titans. It was just another kids' show until I read LMI's work on the show. Oh. My. Goodness. All the things that had to be left out to not harm the kiddies. Right here. And, again: the wonderful character interactions. MAN.

* samdoesfunstuff​. Sam... I found Sam when I first found fanfiction, waaaaaay back when. Sam was around when I was doing my first complete readthrough of Animorphs. And her fics... I will never forget what they did to me. Her writing is so clean and well-presented and so easy to get lost in. Wonderful characterisation, wonderful character studies in all her pieces. Just... fantastic Animorphs fic.

* Crystal Remnant on FF.net. Nobody quite wrote Cyborg 009 like this author. And their one Danny Phantom fic also made me skip past the "this is a children's show" line back when I was only starting to discover how to blot out all the noise of kids'  shows to see the real story/potential underneath.

* Asiera on FF.net. You've never read Yu-Gi-Oh like Asiera writes it in Heart of the Cards. And I'm so grateful to her for getting this fic out there. The plot is astounding. And - as is the common theme with me - the characters are just written so damn well.

* elecktrum​. I'm pretty sure there isn't a follower of mine who doesn't know that I re-read all seven Chronicles of Narnia books at least once a year. This was my first fandom. Peter Pevensie was my first literary love. These books have always and will always be a huge part of my life. Electrum... writes Narnia fic like you would not believe. All that stuff I love: great plots, great relationships, awesome sibling bonds, reading between the lines of canon/deleted scenes? All of it is all over in her fic. She writes beautifully, achingly, wonderfully. There's everything from humour to hurt that makes you hurt. This is Narnia represented as its true self, people.

3. Authors you’ve only just discovered.

Both of these were found (no) thanks to overzelos, who has ruined me beyond any return by letting me find these two people.

* Minisinoo on FF.net. I don't even have words to describe Min's writing. Fantastic doesn't quite cover it. Min writes X-Men like I have never seen any fic ever written ever before. She is so raw - so damn blunt - it is beautiful and horrifying at the same time. You want good characterisation - characterisation that makes you love and hate a character because they're all too human? Read Min. She's unflinching. Her grammar and flow are also flawless, as are her very sharp and perfectly used metaphors. Everything about her writing. Just... everything.

* fizzingwizard. Her plots are wonderful and so believable and so great to lose yourself in. Everything fits together so well. And she's just a good writer - a very good one. But the number one reason Fizz has destroyed me in the very best way? Her characterisation. It is just... it's beyond any adjectives I have. I literally struck the jackpot that she loves most who I love most because her writing literally fills up a little, needy hole in me I've had for over a decade. I'll say it again: her characterisation. And with that comes the best damn relationships between characters I have seen in ages. And it's done so subtly, most of the time, it's just... The way she writes my one true weakness of sibling love... I cannot English my adoration for that. Add to the fact that it's about the two siblings that started my decent into a life of adoring sibling relationships and you should begin to understand.

29.If you could write the sequel (or prequel) to any fic out there not written by yourself, which would you choose?

I wouldn’t choose a single fic. I adore writing, I really and truly do, but my first love was reading. And it so often happens that I have a very set idea of what I want in a fic in my head, but I want to read it, not write it. That coupled with the fact that I’m definitely not on par with a lot of the writers of the fics I adore means that I would never even attempt to touch their work. There are many fics I wish the authors had written a sequel or prequel for, but I don’t want myself anywhere near the fics I adore. Nowhere near them.

30. Do you accept prompts?

This… has no easy answer xD I actually made this blog to be a prompt blog (hence the URL) back before I discovered the Animorphs fandom and got sucked in, sold my soul and made friends (in that order). And life has, since two years ago April, gotten one hellava lot busier. That being said, though, I don’t not accept prompts? I’ve had fun with the ones I’ve done in the past, even if I haven’t pulled off the requests as well as I would have liked.
