It's been said numerous times already, but it bears repeating:

People in fandoms will talk about real people as fictional characters and talk about fictional characters as people, then get worked up when told to stop and know the difference. Actors (and celebrities in general) are not your fictional blorbos. They are real people with their own lives and privacy.

I never understood the "a gay character must be played by a gay actor" thing

Cause like no one says that about like anything else

No one says "A character with OCD must be played by an actor with OCD"

No one says "a homophobic character must be played by a homophobic actor"

No one says "a rape survivor needs to be played by a rape survivor"

No one says, "A pregnant woman needs to be played by someone who was pregnant

This, thank you! It can even be a serious liability if certain demographics are acting? Someone playing an obese character for instance is not going to have a fun time on set, and they're going to be in serious danger health wise the whole time. This "an actor with the same x y z as the character" can be seriously dangerous and a lot of keyboard activists just don't get that. It's like "covering ears, in la la land" to them.

I agree UNLESS a big part of that characters story or struggle is their connection to the lgbtq community. It could be hard for the actor to properly connect to and accurately portray that character and their struggles. This also applies to a lot of neurodivergent characters. I’m not saying it’s impossible but it has definitely affected how genuine and accurate the characters authenticity in the past especially since sometimes the writers and directors don’t know or understand either. Again not saying it’s impossible but it’s definitely more necessary in some places for the actor to actually be part of the group they represent.

That reminded me when there was an article about how he met his wife in the church and like it was a love at first site, and some twittard retweeted it with something like "this is the straightest most boring story ever" and I was just sitting there thinking that we're doomed. Hate Chris Pratt or his acting all you want, but he's still a real person he doesn't deaserve this. No one does.

People need to understand celeb's personal lives are not yours to know, if they want to tell us fine, if not, also fine, its not our business

Like, i never really cared. Do I really need to know if some random actor i like dated someone from November 8th, 2023, to April 17th, 2024

My knee jerk reaction to this is dissgreement but: do you have examples? For every great performance you can find a dozen poorer ones, but I feel like that's the case for every kind of role.
