Fandom Problem #16,421:
Fanartist: doesn't tag personal posts, political posts, and so on. Has their main blog be their art blog. Bad world building. Mid level art and writing skills. Has a rather vapid personality. Is mutuals with bigots and known harassers. Has rancid takes.
Other fanartist: Keeps personal and political on a completely separate blog and all of their art on their art blog. Very good and courteous with tagging. Very fun personality. Is not mutuals with bigots snd harassers. Has good takes. Highly skilled with art and writing. Excellent world building.
One of these is a fandom darling that has people screaming and frothing at the mouth and tripping over themselves like rabid fans at a concert.

Popularity does not make any fucking sense half of the goddamn time. It is so off putting yet morbidly fascinating to see a standard asshole achieve fandom god status while doing NOTHING that should equal getting it. So many better artists get shrugged off by the fandom at large and you watch them struggle and some eventually just give up. It is depressing to see
