Reading all the comments/reblog, I'm floored because I didn't think it was THIS bad 😱 Is it even okay to keep supporting this kind of system?... I mean, I want to support the creators of course but I do not want encourage this infernal machine... Knowing there's self destruction behind my favorite mangas/manhwa, that doesn't feel right anymore...

"You didn't know??" No I didn't, I read mangas like any other books or comics without paying attention to behind the scenes unless there's author notes or postfaces on the end of the books. It was not so long ago I gave a try to manwhas on Webtoon or online scans when I had read all the mangas that seemed interesting from my library that I got to see hiatuses messages or stuff like that when new chapters won't be posted soon.

As a native Korean who likes manhwa, I would say that its industry seems to be heavily based on capitalism. There are a lot of educational comics (it became a specific format of genre since 2000s) with popular celebrities as cartoonish characters. Some companies exploit manhwa creators, too. Originally South Korean webcomics were more like indie works in early 2000s like Westwrn ones such as gaming comics, but it became more commercial since 2010s. There are alternative comics, but it is currently not popular as a kind of genre, but individual comics sometimes became cult classic.
